Klipsch RF-35 Pair, RC-35, RW-10 PRICE CHECK!

There's a guy local to me that is selling his setup because he doesn't have the room for it. I know the guy personally and he's trustworthy. He has a pair of RF-35's, an RC-35, and an RW-10. I've read up on these speakers this afternoon and there are varying opinions. Bottom of the line, though, they're some damn good speakers and great if they're being pushed by a great amp.

My uses for them:
  • Movies (70%)
  • Music (18%) -- mostly vinyl
  • Games (12%)

However, I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on used market prices and such. I know the comparable current model (RF-82 II, I think) is about $580 each.

Imperfections in the speakers he's selling:
  • One cabinet cover has a tear in the cloth. He has patched with tape, but it's pretty obvious (to me)
  • One of the RF's has some indentations in the bottom woofer. No tears, but it looks like a kid took a blunt object to them.

They've been in storage in their factory boxes for about 4 years now. He's selling the whole thing for $800.

Thoughts? Pictures attached below. You can see the indentations in the first pic on the left speaker, bottom woofer. That's the one that also has the tear in the cover cloth in the third picture (bottom).

You should call Klipsch and see if they still carry replacement woofers and grills for the RF-35. If so, that makes your friend's offer much more enticing.

There is a Pawn shop here locally selling two tower RF-35's for $280 but don't look as good as shape as those do.
I dunno if that helped any on their value

Good idea. I sent them an email.

Should I offer $600 or would that be insulting?

Klipsch makes great subs, I'd say the sub is worth at least $300 pending how stiff it is on how many hours played on it.

Their Tweeter in their speakers on the other hand drives me nuts! I hate the sound they produce... But some people love it.
I think if he took them to the pawn shop he'd be lucky to get $300 for them I'd probably only offer $550- $600

Gotcha. I'm thinking I'll put them behind my screen in the build I do so the grill damage and woofer indents won't be an issue for me I don't think.

I'll offer him the 600 and see. Ideally, I'd like two subs so hopefully I can find another like it.

You need to CALL Klipsch if you want a quick answer as to whether the parts you need are still available.

And conventional wisdom amongst the vast majority of Klipsch owners is that Klipsch speakers are great but the subs are merely "meh." Given a choice most would pick an ID sub (like SVS or Power Sound Audio or Hsu Research) before going with a Klipsch-branded sub. Check out the Klipsch Owners Thread and the Klipsch Community for more details.

I'll give them a ring if I have time. Since I recently decided to do a behind the screen speaker placement, I'm not sure I care about cosmetic defects. Then again, I'm not sure they're the right speaker for me with the rear ports and me doing a behind the screen placement (mucho preferred by my wife and kinda slick, I must admit).

My buddy actually had an offer from a guy yesterday that was $600. I told him I was actually going to offer him $600, too. I told him my reasons. He said that would be ok and I would get friend preference. I told him I'd confirm with him ASAP, but I just don't know if a rear ported speaker will work for me with the behind the screen deal.

I'm not an audio nazi by any means. The Klipsch stuff is going to be a HUGE upgrade to my current Polk system regardless. The only thing I'm hung up on right now is the rear porting (obviously, since I've mentioned it so many times already ).

EDIT: Looks like an AT screen might be a little cost prohibitive for me. Well...it's more than I want to pay for a screen, anyway.

Both my RF-7IIs and the RF-82IIs I had prior to that are rear ported and both are/were less than a foot away from the wall. I haven't noticed any sound degradation despite the fact that the ports are/were pretty close to the wall.

considering this pair went for $490 on ebay, you'd be getting a really good deal for $600 since he's also adding a center channel and subwoofer.
