Looking for some ceiling mounted speakers

Hi,

I am looking for some ceiling mounted speakers (not in ceiling). White would be preferable.

Current setup: I have an Onkyo receiver in my theater room and plan to connect the second channel to these two speakers in my main sitting area outside the theatre room.

I am having a hard time finding anything online. I would like them to be at least decent speakers as they will be the only sound for that room. Would prefer to keep the total price under $200 if possible.

Thanks!

The combination of white and a $200 budget makes it tough - one recommendation near your budget and one quite a bit over:

I heard a previous version of these, not really adequate for home theater but sound OK
Polk Audio OWM5 Multi-Purpose Home Theater Speaker (White) - $118 ea

These sound great and look even better, but are not cheap - they are worth the money
NHT Absolute Zero Bookshelf Speaker - White - $220 ea

2-Ch (HT L/R): Oppo BDP-105 BD, Adcom GFP-750 pre, Bryston 10B Sub Xover, Bryston 4BSST2 / Paradigm Signature S4 v.2 (L/R), (2) SVS SB12-NSD (Subs)
Home Theater: Bryston 4BSST2 amp / Paradigm CC-590 (C), Outlaw 7700 amp / (4) Def Tech UIW-RSSII (LS/RS/LB/RB), Samsung 46” 3D LCD

Thanks!

IMO you will not get speakers that "are at least decent" for that price.

PSB has some very good speakers available. The CW-50R are $299/pair.

Thanks mtn-tech. I was actually looking at the OWM5's last night a little. They seem to get good reviews. It isn't for my theater room, it's just to pump sound into the room next door so maybe those OWM5's will be good enough for that.

Yeah, my budget might be a little low. I think I will probably look at something a little more expensive. I can't use those in wall speakers because I need to aim them into the room based on the location of the wires that come from the ceiling. Have any other suggestions for on wall/ceiling mount speakers if I increased the budget a little?

I was also looking at the Polk Audio TL3's. Not sure if anyone has any experience with them?

I've never listened to those, but I'm pretty sure the TL series are worse than the OWM5 - I would never recommend speakers that small. Even the "biggest", the TL3 has only a single 3.25" mid (rated to 90Hz) compared to the OWM5 two 4.5" mids (rated to 60Hz).

My more expensive suggestion of the NHT stands if you increase the budget - maybe find them used? White speakers always seem to go cheaper:

NHT Absolute Zero Bookshelf Speaker - White - $220 ea

I have a pair of owm5. I use them for heights. They sound OK. I wouldn't use them for anything other than surround duty. One good thing about them is they're lightweight.

Keep in mind you may also have to get some mounts that typically cost $20-$40/pair.

EDIT: My mistake. I have OWM3. Not OWM5.

If they have to be white and mounted, indoor / outdoor speakers come to mind.

What about Polk Atrium 6 speakers with a 5.25" mid and they come with brackets - list price of $400 is expensive but you can buy refurb from Polk direct for $260 shipped free.

If I were to up the budget to choose between the Absolute Zeroes and the Atrium's, which one would be a better choice?

Or maybe better yet, are the Absolute zeroes worth the extra cost over the Atrium's?

I would prefer the look and the sound ot the NHT. The Polks are nice but have a more industrial look and brighter / punchier sound whereas the NHT is a more elegant package with a warmer / smoother sound. I have NHT at work and can listen to them all day.

Thanks again for all the help!

I think I am going to get a pair of the Absolute Zeros.

Can anyone point me to some white ceiling mounts that would work well with them? Having trouble locating any with good reviews that would actually fit these speakers.

Only ones that look good are the omnimount 20.0 mounts, but their website says "coming soon".

I believe that those speakers have the larger 3/8-16 threaded mounting holes - but you better check with NHT at 800-648-9993 - they may know the best bracket to use or know who still carries the Omnimount 20.0.

The other speaker brackets that I know about because they are a local company is Panavise - I think theirs have a generic mounting plate that you could just bolt to the back of your Absolute Zeros - just need to buy the correct bolt - NHT should be able to tell you what length is needed - maybe you can wall mount?
