Amplifier Advice

Hey guys,

I need to set up speakers for my desktop.
I already have 2 Polk Audio RM1300 satellite speakers from my old 5.1 system that I want to use as my speakers.
The manual can be found here (specs on p.15): http://www.manualslib.com/manual/311...page=15#manual

Here are a couple of the specs stated in the manual:
Nominal Impedance - compatible with 8 ohm outputs
Recommended Amplification: 20-125Wrms

I'm looking for an amplifier to go with my 2 speakers. I want the amp to include a headphone jack, volume control, base control, & a power on/off switch. I also require all the cables necessary.
Can u guys give me some suggestions?

Thanks

What is your budget? This is the cheapest option I know of: http://www.parts-express.com/topping...utput--310-310

The only cables you will need are speaker wire, and a 3.5mm to RCA cable

However you don't get bass controls, but I wouldn't recommend artificially boosting the bass in a satellite speaker anyway, it probably can't play much below 120Hz, so you will just be creating distortion and limiting headroom. If you want bass, add a sub to the mix.

Agreed. Topping is a good choice for a small amp. If you want more power and more controls, the Denon 1513 would work quite well

What do you plan to do for bass - the small sats will be weak in the bass

I want bass control so I can put the base down to zero, lol.

I have bass on my 5.1 system for watching tv. But it gives me a headache when I'm on the computer.

I don't think you will need to worry about that with a pair of satellite speakers

Denon 1513 would be your best bet, then. Unless you want to use Equalizer APO to EQ down the bass on your computer. Your computer soundcard software might have a graphical EQ that would let you do something similar (and easier). For example, something like this on some of the Asus Xonar sound cards:

It will be a small miracle, if those sats have any real bass below 140 hz

So, you have a chance of getting a new headache.

I use one of these for my personal computer audio. It provides 100 watts per channel, has a great built in headphone amp and even an FM tuner. $82.
