So I came across the link above as I'm looking to put together a "home theatre". I really only want a 2.1 set but if this is a good deal plus a receiver and sub I may go for it. What do you guys think? I've heard PSB speakers are very good.

Okay thanks. I'm pretty new when it comes to surround systems. I really just want something simple so I'm not sure if I want a full on 5.1 system. More luje a 2.1 system. Would it be worth it to buy the set and sell the surround speakers (centre and rear)??

This is what I have now with the speakers now on stands.

^^^ You can sell the extra speakers - and use the money to buy some stands. Bookshelf speakers
on the floor will sound bad (negative), no matter what brand or cost.

Well I already have stands. Just not shown in the picture I posted. Would these PSB's be good enough with a decent sub and receiver for a 2.1 system?

Yes - and a good deal for 5 speakers on a tight budget.

Well my budget is definitely tight. Just wonder how much I'd get for the centre and rear speakers if I sold them.

That's a great deal, you should jump on it!

You should at least keep the center in case you want to build a home theater later. You've got a shelf on the TV stand which is perfect for the center speaker.

Sell your old system and buy yourself a nice receiver and sub next.

Definitely. Buy it today before someone else does. Then get you a good sub to go with it

Well I replied to the ad but so far no response. I also saw a similar ad here: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-electronics/o...cial/582686535

I was also looking at this. I know Bose seems pretty hated on here but I've heard these speakers and they sound pretty good. Plus i like the simple set up. The guy was willing to sell to me for $350 which is half of brand new.

The Alpha is a better speaker- compared to Bose

For $200, the PSB's are a no-brainer.

Well I wouldn't necessarily call it a no brainer. It may be to the audiophiles on here but to me it may not be. Yes it seems that either pair of the Alpha's or the centre can go for $200 or more each so all together $200 does seem to be a great deal. Even so I do still have to get a receiver and sub to go with them. Doing that could easily hit $500 or more. So putting down $350 for the Bose seems like a better deal. Audio quality-wise it may not be and yes with a receiver I can expand things later if I wish. Nonetheless money is tight and I don't exactly make the big bucks so I want my money to stretch as much as possible.

Find an old used surround receiver for a $100, and it will be a better amplifier unit than the amplifier in the Bose cinemate. Find a used 8 or 10" sub for $100, and it will be as good or better than the Bose midbass module. Then you can pick up a used pair of speakers for $150 that will be better than the cinemates--and there's your $350. Or you can get the PSB's for $50 more. There is a reason why people here sometimes call it "Blows" instead of "Bose."

Your choice. Your money. The PSB is a much, much better value for the money. Go with other used equipment to go with them, and you'll be far better off

Well I'm still waiting to hear back from the people selling the PSB's. We'll see how it goes.

If can get them, be patient on finding the other equipment. You ought to be able to put something together for $400.

However, if you have been waiting awhile to hear back, could be they are already working a deal with someone. I know that they would disappear fast at that price.

Well I only messaged the seller yesterday so I haven't been waiting that long. There's this other set I also mentioned yesterday but it's $25 more.

^ it's a comparable deal to the first ad. There are also stands and speaker wire included. Consider your speaker purchase as a longterm investment as it will generally outlast any other HT gear you will purchase, so I would advise choosing wisely rather than hastily when it comes to speakers.

Well I just saw this and replied to it. The interesting thing is that it lists the same things as the other PSB ad for $225 but this one is $95. If the speakers work like they claim it could be a sweet deal.

The Image 2B is better than the Alpha - I would go for it

I inquired about the bookshelf set. Would the 4T tower speakers be better? And would I still need a Sub if I got the towers? I've always been in the middle about tower speakers. Yeah they can look great and I'm sure they sound great. But they are often so big. I already have speaker stands so I thought the bookshelf speakers would be better.

Both the towers and bookshelf speakers, would benefit from a subwoofer.

However, the towers will have more bass - and only $20 difference in price,
that way you can take time and save for a nice/decent subwoofer.

Your call

Well I'm meeting up with the guy this weekend. We'll see which ones I take.

Also gonna snag me this as a starter. It doesn't have HDMI or whatnot but it will do for now.

Since it has the calibration microphone and remote that's a good receiver for $55. Nice find...
