Just bought Bose Acoustimass 10, should I keep them?

I purchased a Acoustimass 10 from Bose Factory Outlet store for $499.00 They normally retail for about $1000. I have them hooked up to my new Pioneer SC81 and they sound pretty good for my needs. I mostly will be watching movies on the weekend, football, nightly news, and occasional music. Before my 30 day trial period ends, I wanted to know if there are any other speaker systems in that price range that would sound better. I know that Bose are not the best sounding speakers, but for the price should I keep them? They are factory renewed from Bose and carry a 5 year warranty.

As I told you in another thread, if you like them, that is all that matters. Can you do better at $500? Well 3 EMP Tek E5Bi for the front stage is $375. Two E3B's for the surrounds is $125, leaving you without a subwoofer. But a Dayton Audio SUB-1200 for around $130 wouldn't push you too far over that $500 budget and the sound difference between those two setups should be quite significant. You'll also have a 30-day trial period on the EMPs. Not sure about the dayton sub.

I wouldn't take one for free, assuming I had to use it and not sell it, but if someone here told me the speakers I run suck, it wouldn't matter to me, as I like them. If you like them, you do...enjoy them.

I'd rather be water boarded than have a free Bose system.

If you like the small size of the Bose speakers, check out the Cambridge Audio Minx systems, better sounding and they should be around the same price.

If you want a normal sized bookshelf speaker or tower, then we can make other recommendations.

Do you like them? If so, keep them. We can't make that determination for you. Only you have your ears.

It is your money and your preference. Don't worry about what strangers on an internet forum say.

I got some for free one time and I ended up giving them away. They were kind of neat and I liked how they were so small at first, but the sound was just not loud enough and the base was severely cripled. I had a couple of pairs of the 301s and they sounded much better than the acoustimas system. There are several people that I work with that have bought into the Bose acoustimas systems and rarely turn them on. They are not impressed enough by the system to even choose listening to it over their built in TV speakers.

But it is like others said, if you are satisfied with them and you like the small form factor then keep them.

If you like them keep them. At least you paid what they're actually worth. If you want to know what their deficiencies are read this:

You could get Focal Sibs for $499.

http://www.accessories4less.com/make...m-black/1.html

you could sell the AM-10 new for $750 and make a profit.

This is also a good point. If you like the small form factor you could always check out baja's eBay store and pick up some def tech pm 800 with a sub.

No tweeter, no subwoofer and a small mid bass driver...and you have a speaker system missing much of the freq range and incapable of getting loud without distortion!

Yep, that pretty much sums an acoustimas system up in one sentence.

Better sound through advertising research.

You could also probably list the Acoustimass as "like new" or "near mint" (depending on condition) on your local CL for $600 and someone might take them off your hands

Nevermind. I'd have to get 'em out of the box to test 'em. I really couldn't bring myself to do that (lol)

If you like the sound then we who are we to tell you what to do?
But, if you wanted to know if you can have better sound for $500 then I suggest you try the Focal Sib package that was posted here. Listen for yourself and decide which set to return.

My suggestion would be to sell them, of course, if you really like them then keep them, but I can almost guarantee that you will be much happier with the many other options suggested here.

I can obtain a Bose system that I will send you for free.

Please post the video of your water boarding to enhance the entertainment value of this thread. Sound effects in Dolby Atmos are preferred!
