Looking for 5.1 System in Canada - Budget $2,500

I am looking at putting together a 5.1 surround system in Canada.

Budget: $2,500

Wanted: Front bookshelf speakers and center channel
Rear in-ceiling speakers
Subwoofer
Denon receiver (either the AVR-X2100 ($750) or the AVR-X2000($500))

Any recommendations?

Canada? PSB is a Canadian company that makes excellent speakers, and provides good support if you ever need it.

PSB Image B6 front speakers, Image C4 center speaker, and The PSB CW-50R ceiling speakers.

That will cost you around $1200 or so.

The NAD T758 receiver is a much better-sounding receiver that is much more compatible with most speakers. $999.

PSB also has good subwoofers.

I understand that Canadian PSB dealers give discounts on a system price.

There is a dealer locator on the PSB website; enter your postal code for nearby dealers.

Does your budget price include the cost of the AVR or is that on top of what you'll spend for speakers?
If $2500 is your budget for speakers and a sub I would suggest looking at the SVS stuff that you can get from Sonic Boom Audio.
SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers and a center channel and a PB-1000 sub would make a great system. There's plenty of good inexpensive in-ceilings that you could use to work with those speakers.

+1

PSB and Paradigm are both Canadian companies that make excellent speakers. There are owners threads for both brands where you could ask questions about the speakers you find: Paradigm Owners Thread and PSB Speakers Owners thread

For subs, no reason to match the sub with the speaker brand. SVS Sound that jbrown15 recommended is probably your best bet. And as he mentioned, they make good speakers, too.

Are we still talking about placing the front speakers inside a cabinet?

I would second the PSB and SVS recommendations from the posters above. One thing I would do is spring for Image C5 instead of C4 as it plays a little fuller.

Here is a list of Canuck Manufacturers - although a bit dated, so some links may not work:

I have a houseful of Axiom speakers (3 separate systems) that I find to be excellent. They have package HT systems at a discount vs buying them separately....
