3.1 -> 5.1 Advice

Hello All!

I'm looking to upgrade my 3.1 HT system to a 5.1. My plan is to move my current front speakers to surrounds and buy new front speakers. I'd like to find a decent pair of floor standing speakers to compliment my current system.

Does anyone have any advice on a pair of front speakers for under $500 that would work well with my system below?

Denon AVR-1611
Energy CB-5 (current front L/R)
Energy CC-5
BIC F12 SUB
Room: Small/Medium
Listening Interests: movies, gaming, music

Thanks for your help!

You should try and stay with Energy so you can use your center channel. Perhaps something like the CF-50 or EF-500, although they might overpower your center.

So is the center holding me back?

You can always save for a center channel

Look at the Boston M250 - A real good price, $500 a pair - new in the box

You want your center to match the brand and model of your front speakers, to ensure a timbre natch as sounds move across your front stage. Not all energy speakers will match that particular center...

If you want to continue to use the Energy CC-5 center you should look at the CF-30, CF-50 or CF-70.

Don't know where you're located but maybe you can negotiate a deal at Best Buy. No way should you pay full price for those speakers.

If you're in Canada the CF-30 is $199 each.

CF-50 $249 each

I like the idea of those Boston towers but the center is very expensive.

This would be my preference for the center channel - if one can place it, the M25
