setup help….

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions for me. My system currently consists of 2 Def Tech ProMonitor 1000's L/R, ProCenter 2000, 2 ProMonitor 800's Surround L/R, SVS ProSub1000, Yamaha Aventage RX-A1020, Roku 3 & Oppo BDP-103D. Ok, I've ran YPAO a few times & wasn't too happy with the results so I basically set the PEQ to through & just left the levels/distances the way YPAO measured. My crossover freq is set at 80Hz as I feel that gives the smoothest blend all the way around. The issue that has me truly baffled is my system seems to be a bit on the "harsh" side for lack of a better term. I hear harshness at not even close to reference listening level & I'm just wondering if you guys may have some tips as to how I might tame this down a bit. I've heard praises from many users on here about the DefTech configuration I have but honestly my system really sounds like ass & balls.
If you need any further info regarding my setup, please let me know.

Thanks so much for your help guys!!!
Carmine.

Could be your room causing the brightness. Have you done any room treatments?

Do you have bare walls, hardwood floors or do you have curtains and carpeting?

I haven't tried treatments yet, but I have carpeted floors no curtains & for the most part the walls are bare….I do have a big sliding glass door that leads out to my balcony which may be a good portion of the culprit….
