Best Front Ported L/R Speaker for < $500 (Pair)

Due to placement requirements (in a bookshelf) I am looking for a pair of front ported speakers for under $500 (total). Currently using WaveCrest HVL-1's so I'd like to get a noticeable upgrade if possible.

Extra info:
  • 2.1 System
  • 50% music 50% HT
  • SVS PB-1000 Sub
  • ~2500 ft^3 area

Thank!

You could also use sealed speakers (no port) in a bookshelf. Look at NHT.

Interesting speaker, but did you see the warranty? 30 days??? I must be missing something. Perhaps I was looking at used speakers .

They (Maxxsonics) are closing out the MB Quart home speaker line (they are new in box) - I bought
the higher-end Vera bookshelf speakers from them. Since it is rare that speakers have any problems,
it was no real risk for me and many others who have bought from them.

A subjective Alexxa B1 review
http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/spe...28/286262.html

The price for the Alexxa is good and MB Quart (now German Maestro) makes good stuff.
http://www.german-maestro.de/EN/ms_b_one.htm

The people at German Maestro were the ones who made the Alexxa and Vera lines - before
MB Quart was sold - now the former people are back together as German Maestro.

I recommend the Cambridge Audio SX-60 speakers, which cost $349 per pair. They should be a good step up.

You can get them in a nice dark walnut finish, or black, and they have a comprehensive 5-year p & L warranty.

Zieglj01: Well, I'm no longer confused . Thanks for the clarification. The reason I thought they may be used is that the price now shows $395 for the pair.
