Has anyone tested the HSUs and not liked them? If so, what was your experience in sending them back? Reviews of the speakers seem good, I'm just not sure if the process of returning is worth it..i.e. How much money does one have invested if they decide the speakers are not for them?
If you have tried or own these which ones and what are your thoughts? If you are in the greater Sacramento Ca. area would you be willing to demo them?
I bought a HSU STF-2 subwoofer for my 5.1 setup and so far it has been the best investment to my home theater system. Fantastic, clear, accurate bass with a great tone.
I had a Hsu STF-3 and loved it until I got something better; then I didn't. But never had to return one, and I'm in Canada so that would have been different anyway.
Yes, this is the impression that I have come away with. I just find it difficult to shell out $2k - $3k on speakers I can't hear (it's a leap of faith that I am trying to justify in my head). If you do go down the road and take advantage of the 30 day free trial then you could have $500+ just in shipping costs if you end up not liking them for any reason....sound, size, build quality not what you were expecting etc.
Not all speakers are for everyone I would hate to have that money invested and not have the speakers or worse yet decide to keep them even though there is something not sitting right with me that I would have to live with for an extended period of time. It would be so much better to see touch and hear them.....Anyone?
I spent a bunch of time in the HSU room at the NY Audio Show. Their new subwoofer was quite impressive. As for the speakers, I don't think I had enough time with them to judge. I will be receiving some HSU products right around Thanksgiving if you are interested.
I'd like to add that Dr. Hsu is very pleasant to deal with and I would have no problem doing business with him. Lately it seems like that counts for something.

I'd call them and see if you can just buy a pair to see if you like them and then get the rest with the package discount price later. That way you would only be out the shipping on a pair of you decide to send them back.
I would get a pair and then decide how much you like them, and arrange for a package purchase if you decide to keep em. If you don't like them, a pair will not be bad to return. The Hsu speakers are good and the subs are amazing.
If you are actually nervous that you won't like them - go with a company offering free return shipping - such as SVSound (aka SVS around here) - they are now doing free shipping returns if you don't like their speakers.
Can not speak for their speakers but their subs are impressive. I have a larger one from years back. Vtf3-mk2. Of all the speakers and amps and toys over the years the hsu is the one thing every one that ever heard it was blown away. It was my pride and joy in my theater.
Then the amp died last year. Due to some health issues since 2007 it never got much use. Very disappointed that the amp died as I have never lost an amp. My equipment is babied and to have an amp with such little use on it die...well...sucked. So I ordered a replacement amp, swapped it out, and even though the new amp is "better" or so I am told, I was never as impressed with it. Health issues have gotten worse, and over the past 12 months I have put 60hrs on my projectors bulb...so sub would be the same. Its just not the same sub it was. The replacement amp was not cheap and only 1yr warranty. Something to consider. HSU amps dying isn't common, but sadly not rare either.
Check their forums.
Btw, I just ordered a SVS to try. Mostly due to no hsu dealer in Canada anymore, but I was weary of more electronic issues. Dr. HSU is often here, very helpful, very nice man.
