looking for upgrade, but smaller in size

I currently have Polk TSi300 towers, and CS2 center. Not using surround yet (but will do soon)
I was wondering what would be a good upgrade in sound quality but in a much smaller size (satellites or bookshelves at most)
My concern is for the center channel.....I think smaller is usually not better !
Any good idea, without breaking the bank ($500 for center and 2 fronts would be a max)

$500 is a limited budget so many of your options will not constitute an upgrade but a lateral move. I think the above setup would actually be an improvement IMHO.

You might also consider the Ascend Acoustics HTM-200SE or CBM-170SE speakers and or these, http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/hb-1.html (center and book shelf speakers just a tad higher than your budget).
