Recommendations for a Space Constrained Front Sound Stage

I am looking for advice and ideas to improve sound quality from a space constrained front sound stage.

My theater is such that I only have about 2' of room above and below my non-acoustically transparent screen for front speakers (no room on sides whatsoever). I also don't have a lot of depth for speakers in the front sound stage as my theater door is about 8" from the front of the room along the side wall.

I currently have monoprice 3-way inwalls for L/C/R mounted below my screen. They are connected to a Onkyo 3008 running multeq xt32 and I have 2 SVS pc12s supporting the low end.

I am looking to improve the front sound stage, particularly I am finding dialogue to be muffled and lacking clarity. I have messed around with a few options in the onkyo including the dynamic eq and adjusting the treble of the fronts to try to lessen the muffled sound, but to no avail.

One option I am considering is to find a good center channel speaker, buy 3, and use them for my L/C/R. I'll set these into the wall if necessary depending on the depth requirements.

Any suggestions on high value center channels? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

If you have 2 ft - I would think about mounting some bookshelf speakers above the screen
and angle them down

One mount option

Speaker option
Speakers NHT SuperOne 2.1 - sold each

Based on budget, if you prefer - there are some center channel options.

Thanks zieglj01. I think I will do just that - mount 3 bookshelf speakers above the screen and angle them toward the listening position.

In terms of the bookshelf speakers I should get, the Pioneer SP-BS22-LRs seem to have created quite a stir and their price tag is attractive. Not sure how big of an improvement they would be over the monoprice in walls though.

How would the NHT SuperOnes compare with the Pioneers or with the Monoprices? Any other bookshelf speakers I should consider (at higher price points)?

With the bookshelf speakers you should hear a more focus sound presence, that is more open
and clear and detailed.

The Pioneer is decent/nice for the price - however if funds allow, I would aim higher.
The NHT can have a more clear and realistic sound, and they make nice stuff.

Some others to look at >
