Soundbars- usually equal substandard drivers and no ability to changes distances between the L/R speaker and unless the soundbar is >8 foot long, they won't be have a the proper seperation between L/R. I own two soundbars and they are good for one thing- portability.
Flat panel speakers will represent less of a compromise, but my guess is they wont sound nearly as good as the same drivers in a traditional cabinet.
Klipsch, Def tech, B$W all make flat panel speakers....
