I agreed to downsize my 5.1 surround speakers. Now what to buy?

I made a compromise to sell off my paradigm FCR speakers. They are large floor type, and a massive center channel. monitor 7 series.

I need help with speaker selection for new FCR speakers. My issue is a large 120" projection screen that obstructs the center speaker. My screen is not acoustic transparent.

I think I have only 2 options.

1. 3 in ceiling speakers mounted just in front of the screen.
2. FR bookshelves sized speakers, and a center behind the screen. My thought on this is that the center can be adjusted too a higher volume to accommodate the screen barrier.

Has anyone had a satisfactory setup with one of these options?

The room is 14wx20l.

1. Front ceiling speakers are not going to work well, and should be seen as an absolute last resort.

2. If you don't have an AT screen, you can't put a speaker behind it, regardless of the volume.

I would go with some bookshelves on each side, and then get a center speaker stand to mount the center below the screen and tilted up.

If you like the Paradigm sound, consider some of them, a pair of Mini Monitors and a Center 3 would make for a nice sound stage. And seeing as you have a sub, there won't be much of a drop off in sound compared to towers.

Consider the NHT Absolute Tower speakers for the front. They are very good speakers and will go down below 60 Hz; fine with your sub.

They are only 5.7" wide and 36" high, and you can use the NHT Classic 2 Center speaker for the center, below the screen.

or get an smaller screen?

100" ?

a balance between screen size and audio setup ,if my screen is taking too much space to fit an audio setup I prefer to lost few screen inches and fit my audio setup.

So I guess if I did this I would keep my center, and place it on the floor. As far as the LRF I would replace with book shelves.

I added pictures below, I'm trying to reduce the cluttering look of these big speakers to compromise with my wife. The room is dual purpose.

I just bought a screen, it does have enough space below for the center.

Slimmer is nice, maybe for FLR I could find something that inserts into the wall?

An AT screen is really the best option, can you still exchange the one you have? It would let you place a pair of bookshelves on that sill, and keep the center where it is, and you wouldn't see any speakers with the screen down. As is right now acoustics are not good with the current speaker positions, and having something behind a non AT screen is not going to work.

Look at the PSB speakers that are for wall and ceiling installations.

Most wall/ceiling speakers are absolute trash; PSB makes only high-quality products.

That would be the better option

you can place the center on the floor and DIY something to tilt up the center.bookshelf will work better ,the ceiling speakers on that suspended ceiling will not sound good.

also some AM-40 Side Clamp for bookshelf speakers.

I think that he wants to keep the room as is.

Headphones.

Epic use of space. Where do you sit, chair or couch?
