Check out this video of an Audio emporium in Japan. It is amazing how much stuff is under one roof over there.

It was similar to that when I was in Japan 25 years ago when I was in the navy.

I was like a kid in a candy store

@ultra 150 pilot ,
Was stationed there about 7 years ago, and the only problem was getting things home on the train.
The stores over there are crazy like that, just stacked with goods higher and higher!

Where are Japanese with their high quality speakers? You'd think with the superb technology and engineering of the Japanese people, that they would have many quality Japanese manufacturers branded speakers out there on the market......... I mean, we all know anything that comes out of Japan we can rest assure that they are made of the utmost quality. And yet, the speaker market, where are they? Or do I just don't know?

If I had to guess, the electronics is a fast moving cutting edge business and speaker technology is more stagnent, most speakers can go several years without a refresh. The Japanese people love to create the latest and greatest with electronics.

They do have their brands but stuff made in Japan is more expensive than stuff outsourced to India or China or SE Asia. But they do have some great statement brands. I believe David Fabrikant of Ascend Acoustics said the Pioneer/TAD speakers are the best speakers he's ever heard.

Some guy here a while back said that he used to work for the Onkyo(?) distributor. They had millions of dollars of equipment and speaker test labs and for whatever reason couldn't come out with a decent speaker. Once you know all the science, I guess there's a bit of "artistry" needed.
