any comments on Beoplay A6?

Hi all,

I am looking to get a delightful sounding wireless speaker. In speaking with people and doing online research I seem to have narrowed my choices down to either a Beoplay A6 or a new Sonos Play 5.

The Sonos is less expensive but has literally thousands of positive reviews online. The Beoplay has come down a bit in price and seems to have certainly won some folks over.

Has anyone out there purchased an A6? I did a search on the forums but it seems that there is nothing on the subject?

Thank you!

Gimmicky speakers like these don't get a lot of talk on this forum, mostly because for 6 or 700 dollars, you can get a real decent quality system that ISN'T wireless or portable, but will sound many times better, due to bigger and higher quality drivers and more power.
I have heard the Sonos system and it didn't sound terrible, but also wasn't as good as the worst HT system I have ever owned, a 400 dollar HtIB (SLS Q line gold system). I bought an portable Ion speaker which sounds just as good as the Sonos and only cost 80 dollars. But you get what you pay for and my ion speaker battery now last about 5 min! 1 year old...
Also, wireless doesn't work all that well for HT, as delays can be an audio disaster.

OK thanks for the input.

How do folks typically stream music from services such as TIDAL to their setup without sacrificing audio quality if wireless speakers are seen as too much of a compromise?

I find streaming to be of lesser quality, so I just plug my phone into a 3mm jack directly to my AV receiver when I want to listen to music with the best possible quality. Wireless is reserved for my car, which doesn't have Phil-BMR speakers...no idea about TIDAL or even what that is!

OK thanks. TIDAL is one the music streaming services out there. Their claim to fame is that they offer a lossless streaming service without compression to the music you choose to stream. FLAC format I believe. It does sound better than music from a Spotify or Apple Music service (at least to my ears).

My non Audiophile friend loves his Beoplay A9.

Noting wrong with going that route...I'd likely get this one though.

It even has bass management and sub out if want to get more bass out of it!

Not only is it said to sound great, (I have their LX16s and love them), but it looks super cool too.

I have tidal and use it through roon labs software installed on an htpc in my living room which connects to a USB dac integrated amp.

It is lossless and sounds great... roon has an awesome iPad app for control and it is easy to use.

I was not impressed with the tidal app but for my needs it didn't really work since I needed more app control rather than streaming.

Agree with the others. I don't like single speaker systems.

For the $ of the beoplay a6 you could get something like the elac element integrated amp and unifi b5 speakers for about the same price. It'll be way more versatile and sound better.
