I am slowly getting the significant other's buy in to spend some meaningful change on my first set of towers (50/50 music and HT). The reason i want towers is because I haven't had them and I always thought that they looked cool and life is short and I don't want people saying at my funeral that the poor guy never had towers....isn't that a shame? For us, the term meaningful change means $2k (+/-) for the towers. Would also like a CC which of course means more $. The speakers which pass the WAF eye test (looking purely on line only as I live in an are where a $200 LG HTIB is considered an "apex predator" of a sound sytem) include Salk, Philharmonitor and Monitor Audio. She doesn't like high gloss anything. I want good sound and don't care what they might look like. Ideas? Input? Comments? Off handed one liners that will make me laugh? Bueller?
Have a look at ELAC UF5 Slim towers. You can get the regular vinyl wrapped version for $1k. By the way, what are you going to power your speakers with?
I forget, do you already have a sub? Because if you don't, I would not want to risk overspending on the towers and depriving yourself of getting a really good sub.
I would consider the Q Acoustics towers too: https://www.qacoustics.com/floorstanding-speakers.html
The 3050 is available in an especially high-WAF white, along with other color choices, and the rounded edges are also very pleasing to the eye.

The Philharmonic Audio Slims towers or stand-mount BMR Philharmonitors are both incredible values, and can be had with a matching center channel. All can be ordered with almost any kind of custom veneer and finish you'd like, so perhaps you'd get more spousal buy-in if you go that route and let her pick the veneer and finish.
take a look at the KLipsch RF7 ll and see what you and the wife think. Definitely get your towers whilst you still live. NO regrets Man, crank them and enjoy..
I can only speak from personal experience, I recently upgraded from a $1,600 Bose HTIB setup to 4 KEF Q900 towers and a matching Q600C center...never ever going back to HTIB lol...KEF Q series is on sale right now https://www.kefdirect.com
The PowerSound Audio's MTM-210T's are definitely not high gloss. They're the ideal type of tower speaker for you because they're optimised for high sensitivity rather than (unnecessary) bass extension. This means they'll sound dynamic and play loud on mid-teir AVR power. Any chance they'd pass muster with the bride?
Otherwise, another vote for the Ascend Sierra Towers. Outstanding measured performance means they're a good chance of sounding good in a wide variety of rooms. They have a range of finishes other than high gloss.
Audition GoldenEar Tritons if you have a dealer nearby. Great sound, and visually they're quite low-key, especially from the listening position. My wife calls them "the little black dress" of speakers--classy, unprepossessing. Others call them 85lbs of particle board stuffed in a black sock. Give 'em a try and decide for yourself.
My wife loved the fact that she could pick out the exact Salk SongTower color and patterns that she wanted. I got the sound, which she loves, and she picked out the aesthetics. Winner.
Well glad you are going upgrade from a HTIB but I would rethink "cool" "live once" etc for buying towers.
I am more against the grain than with it. If I had $2000 to spend or $3k or $10k I would be auditioning both in the same range.
I would find the $2k tower you like and then go try some $2k monitors as a compare. In my experience I will take the monitor the majority of the time.
MFG B makes three lines of speakers:
Gold
Silver
Bronze
Each line has a monitor and a tower. My $2k gets me the Bronze tower but I can take that same $2k (or add a small amount more) and get the monitor from the Silver line. You might be surprised the monitor will sound better over the tower and especially if using a sub.
I have owned monitors the past ten years as it was the only way I could move up into a line I really liked. If I were totally filled pockets with coins perhaps I would buy the tower but I have been able to move up playing the monitor game to where I am very near end of the road for a very long time.
Some of IDs mentioned are great I am sure but the better than speakers twice the money slogans are a stretch and consider resell factor down the road. I would get out and audition what I could hear before buying anything and look at the center channel options as you say you will use one. Not all are equal and there are some great lines of speakers out there that have weak matching centers and in my opinion is the most important speaker in the HT. Don't blow by it as you are tower frenzied without even paying attention to the matching center.
I would buy the front two first and the center later if it got me a better speaker.
