Emotiva's AirMotiv Speakers 3D Immersive Audio Demo is Best of Show AXPONA 2017

Emotiva put on a tremendous show at AXPONA 2017. The company showed the true power and performance its Airmotiv speakers and subwoofers can deliver. Click the link to read more: Emotiva AirMotiv Speakers 3D Immersive Audio Demo: Best of Show AXPONA 2017

Here's b-roll of some Emotiva XPA and Airmotiv gear.

A picture of one of the overhead channels, four speakers arranged in a cluster. Thanks to @eng-399 for this one.

iMagic wrote (copying with quotations since the link isn't working on the thread proper on my PC):
"Unless you are seduced by the aesthetics of the high-end audiophile offerings, there’s little to be gained from leaving Emotiva’s room and wandering the halls of the show."

Mark - to be fair, AXPONA isn't really oriented historically toward home theater so much as the two-channel, audiophile (hi-res), and personal listening (DAC/headphone) crowd. If you want an HT-oriented show, CEDIA is still the place to be. I go to both shows and while AXPONA has gotten progressively more interesting, their core audience is still those audiences.

Having said that, it does seem like there's less HT rooms than the last show I went to in 2015. That year, along with the Seaton Sounds room having a 7.1 setup (not Atmos IIRC), there was an Atmos room with a Datasat and Triad speakers using their upfiring built-in modules, and I want to say another room with a Marantz and an Atmos setup.

Speakers: PSB Imagine T3 LCR, Imagine T Wides and Side Surround 1, T2 Side Surrounds, Imagine XB rears, PSB CS1000 ceilings (6), HSU ULS-15 Mk 2 subs (4) - 11.4.6

JTR was here this year with a 7.0 system that was totally awesome. I also missed Hsu on the 12th floor (which I highly regret).

Obviously CEDIA is huge. But consumers can't go to CEDIA. I was thinking about shows that consumers can attend.

Also, much of what Emotiva sells is totally germane to an audiophile looking for a great 2-channel rig.

but I will note the brand name starts with either a D or an M.
Is it Denantz?

I guess that answers my question if they had any info of how far along they are with Atmos for the XMC-1/RMC-1.

Quote:
The elevation channels were handled by clusters of four E1 wall-mount surround speakers ($269/pair), for a total of sixteen speakers mounted overhead.
That sounds very interesting, did you manage to grab a photo of that arrangement? Do you know why they opted for this configuration?

The info is simple, it's going to ship as soon as Dolby provides him with CODECs. It's not gonna ship without Atmos. But when do they get 'em? Not known right now, but assure you Emotiva would like it to be ASAP based on what I overheard.

Very nice setup with so much gear to look at. Great people too.

Sadly came out of the event wanting Sonus Faber Lilium's... I'm not sure if it was the record or electronics, but those speakers sounded so darn fine. One of the few speakers I went back to listen to for a second time.

We'd really appreciate it if you sent over those codecs Dolby. It's been 2 years now and DTS won't send Emotiva codecs until they have yours!

I agree that the demo was great (I went twice), but did anyone understand the point of the double power part of the demo? Frankly, I didn't hear much diference except maybe slightly louder.

Edit, I see in Marks article it was to show how gen 3 could be configured. That said, it seem the emphasis was on "double the power" so I missed the configuration explanation.

With the screen jacked up that high, they should have showed the proper configuration: three identical LCRs across the front. It would have improved intelligibility and imaging across the various seating. For the win, they could have lowered the screen using a proper acoustically transparent screen, like two rooms down...

Cheers,
Chris

I initially thought the same thing. However, they probably chose the opportunity to demo their center channel speaker over the opportunity to provide a more ideal LCR scenario.

The 16 speakers on the ceiling were 4 channels of 4 speakers each I believe....so 7.1.4 dependingon how you want to count the sub channel(s). That is my understanding.

Yes that's right, 7.1.4 with all six subs on the LFE channel.

OK yes consumers can find a way through the door, but they have to know someone. Can't just show up, pay 20 bucks, and walk the floor.

Which they could have done more effectively with the center and the screen lowered by about a foot. It's compromising enough to have to display that horizontal thing, and the opportunity was there to show better practice; three identical bookshelf speakers would have performed far better. However if you must show the box, at least set it up realistically with a proper display height.

I was not impressed with their setup this year. The lat two years they used the xmc-1 for their demos and it sounded amazing! What ever pre/pro they used they should never use again!! Me and fours buddies said the same thing. But hey just our opinions.
