Post Best Speakers Under $180

Hello there,

I'm currently in the market looking for some speakers priced at a maximum of about 180USD that will be great for music. I am very new to audio setups so do not know what is best for my requirement. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Each? Or $180 for both?

Also, what will you use to push them? AVR? Will you have a sub?

If you're in the US, the Sony Core speakers at $120/pair from Amazon.com or Best Buy

or the Q Acoustics 2020i for $160 shipped from Amazon.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

I assume you mean a pair, not each ... hmm...

Sony Cores ($118)
Qacoustic 2020 ($158)
SM45s (if you can find them refurb/open box again at $85 each)

For a bit more you can look at wharfedales and philharmonic AAs, which may do better with music.

That's a pretty tight budget, but for around that price I'd look at:

Q Acoustics 2020i

Philharmonic Audio Affordable Accuracy Monitor
Slightly above your budget, but still a great deal at the price

Sony Core bookshelves

Cambridge Audio Minx XL

I'm currently residing in Australia making shipping harder and prices higher however, I can figure out ways to get them over here. My budget is for both speakers, I already have the equipment to push them.

Thanks for the great advice so far! I've been looking at Edifier RB1700BT which I can get for 199AUD (158USD). Any thought on these?

I have the Def Tech Studio Monitor 45’s. With their current clearance price of $250 pair or refurbs for $190 for the pair they’ll be hard to beat in that price range.

Maybe list a common site where you can order speakers from, and folks here can take a peek for you. It's difficult otherwise, once you factor in shipping ... cost a fortune I expect.

Again, if the OP can list a site where he can find a decent variety of speakers in his area, it'd probably be better for suggestions.

I'm not sure if many of the speakers listed here will be in the OP's budget. I recall looking up speakers on ebay australia for someone else here... it was like I entered another dimension where every speaker is double the price.

For instance, randomly googling Cambridge SX50s in Australia pulls up a site selling them for $429.

Not sure if your budget is a startup to bigger and better things down the road, if its a fixed plan. The word 'speakers' in general is kinda like the word 'tape' anymore.
Either way, if Amazon Australia parallels North America, there is a pretty good price drop right now on Pioneer SP-BS22s at 99.00 USD.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

If its going to be a ongoing project, I think they would also make some dandy surrounds.

It doesn't seem like it does ... apparently only books, kindles and apps are sold from amazon in Australia.

All it takes is time with them though. They probably have plans in development right now for a drone the size of a C-130.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Sorry I was getting a Security Token error that was preventing me from posting. But I can seem to post now. Perhaps it is because I embedded links to Australia in my posts.

Go to "TheLoudSpeakerKit" in AU and look at the Dayton Audio B652 (AU$129/pr) and the Dayton Audio B652-Air (AU$179/pr)

I also saw the Yamaha NS-6490 speaker listed on Ebay-Australia for AU$213/pr. But again, I can't seem to post with links without getting a Sercurity Token error.

I did find a set of Qacoustic 2010i on ebay Australia, a little above the $180 cutoff ($200 + $30 shipping), but best offers are accepted ... might be able to get it for $180. Could be worth a try if nothing else better is found.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Q-ACOUSTI...gAAOSw3gJZLWHx

https://www.whathifi.com/q-acoustics/2010i/review

Could be worth it for the Op to check for any ebay deals on local pickups that are close to him... I see a couple of auctions that could be worth considering, local only though.
