Hmm ok now that I got a little Christmas bonus is the CC-390 worth a 250$ increase in price over the CC-290? Would it be overkill for a couple on Titan monitors or should I just stick with the 290?

Also, what could I use as surrounds (paradigm), any ideas?

Re the Denon, call Electronics Expo to get a better price over the phone than they can publish online, and you might get the 3312 (or at least the 2312) in your price range. The main advantage to the 3312 (since you're not interested in video) is a little more power, and as important, pre-outs, so you can add an outboard amp at some point if you feel you want one.

Do you think it would be worth spending the extra cash for the Anthem MRX 300? How does the Onkyo TX-NR809 match up to the Anthem? I will be running a 5.1 system with Monitor 9's v7, Center 3, Surround 1's, and Epik 300 watt sub. I could spring for the Anthem and wait for some of the other stuff I want to purchase. What do you think?

I upgraded from Studio 100's v3 to W5 v.3 which are close cousins to the S6 v.3. I have really liked the result, can not comment on the price but do like your option.

I just submitted a classified for posting to sell my Studio 100's if anyone is interested. I replaced them with a set of W5's a while back and am just getting around to listing them.

If I was in your position, I'd go with the Anthem without a doubt. Onkyo while I have to admit makes good bang for the buck components does suffer from quality/reliability issues. Anthem makes very good/reliable components. And I've heard only positive feedback regarding Anthems customer service, and the very opposite for Onkyo. They have terrible customer service, especially regarding warranty issues.

The 290 should be right for your application. However, If you plan on purchasing some bigger floorstanders in the future, then I would think about the 390, otherwise the 290 is adequate.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing too, I just wanted some reassurance

Especially since that extra 250 could go to a pair of real surrounds like the Emotiva ERD-1's

Hopefully the Titans and the Emotiva's blend well, unless there is something in the paradigm line that would fit the Titans better?

I'm looking for a set of 5.1 speakers to go with the main TV (50"). Ideally, based on sound and looks I'd go with some Studios. However, the room isn't really set up to accommodate the size or to handle that sound quality in the space. It's very open, long and doesn't lend well to surround placement.

My thought was to go with the new Cinema package to out something that fits the space and sounds good. It is sad that the 200/400 must be wall mounted. Perhaps the 5.1 package, or a 5.0 mix with an SVS or HSU.

The other option would be to look into some of the smaller Monitors. My concern there is that the C1 or Surround 1 would be too large for my setup.

I have not heard either of the new lines, although I have a few stores in the area so going for a listen isn't an issue.

Thoughts/suggestions? Much appreciated.

I have Monitor 9's and a CC-290 paired with ERD-1's and I think they blend very well together. They are excellent surrounds for the price.

Ordered some new paradigms the other day! Studio 60's with cc-590 - got a great deal on some v5 demo units in cherry (color I've been wanting). I used to have some studio 20v3 and sold them them about five years ago to get towers (not paradigms) that I really enjoyed for music, but left me wanting in the HT department. Super excited to get back with some 'digms! Thanks to many who've given me tips and advice the past year as I've researched and thought about this. I'll let you all know how I feel about them after they're set up.

I need some feedback guys. I am looking at buy two paradigm floorstanding speakers and a paradigm center speaker. I could get the Monitor 9's v7 and a center 3 or for the same price I could get the Monitor 11's v6 and a cc-390 for the same price. What do you guys recommend? I will not be able to listen to the v6 versions but I can demo the v7's.

I would go with the v7's. The new tweeter is a nice upgrade.

in theory i agree that they would not be timbre matched because of so much of a redesign (unlike the v5 to v6 move which was not nearly as drastic). however, practically speaking, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to mix-n-match b/w those series. i've heard them side-by-side in the same room and didn't notice huge differences - certainly would be fine mixing rears and fronts, even w/ five-channel music. however, i'd try to keep fronts/center same series, but still wouldn't be the end of the world to mix them (after all, some similarities would be there given they have similar backgrounds). just my two cents on it.

If you do a search there are a couple different threads on here currently on that model. I dont have the full 5.1 set, but just bought the surrounds and am installing now.

Almost finished putting together a new system. I've settled on

L/R: Studio 20's
C: CC-590

Rears will be in-ceiling, I will probably go with something from the PV line. Sub will come in a couple months.

A few questions please:

1) I haven't heard the CC590 in person- dealers around here only have the SE center. With the Studio 20's as fronts, would the 490 be fine, or the step up to the 590 is really worth the difference in cost? FWIW the SE (490 equivalent I believe) sounded good to me, if slightly boxy.

2) Are the stands made by Paradigm for the Studio 20's strongly recommended, or have folks had good luck with other, 3rd party stands?

3) I listened to Elite, Integra, and Anthem for receivers, and IMO the Anthem was sooo much better with these speakers (not terribly surprising). The Anthem did not have ARC run, it just simply sounded great- but, I really wanted AirPlay built in. The MRX500 would be really stretching the budget, and adding an Apple TV adds more pain. Assuming I can't swing the MRX-500, what would be a recommendation for something with similar 'sound' to Anthem, that does have AirPlay? I was thinking Yamaha.

4) If you guys had to build out your system over a couple months, which of these would you do to start with:

Fronts/surrounds and phantom center, no sub
Fronts and center, no surrounds/sub
Fronts and sub, phantom center, no surrounds

Really excited about the Studio 20's, they really blew the doors off everything else for HT I listened to. Unfortunately my budget has doubled in the last 2 weeks and it will still require piecing out to get everything I want, damn this is expensive.

I've always run Integra with my Paradigms, they are a good match. Don't know how much the Anthem 500 is but the Integra 40.3 or 50.3 might be close to that. Please, you mentioned some great receivers here, why oh why Yamaha??!!
