Is there a way to configure a system using a combination of the following? What should be included/excluded? I'm new to this, and really have no clue. I will be using this for 90% movie watching.

-Athena - Audition AS-F2.2
-Athena - LS-300
-Athena - LS-50
-Athena - WS-15

Thanks for your help!

You basically have two 4.0 setups.

AS-F2.2 and WS-15 surrounds. Both use the same 1" Teteron tweeter

LS-300 with LS-50 surrounds. Both use the aluminum dome tweeter. LS-50 is only 3/4".

The F2.2 is clearly the best speaker of the bunch, more powerful and better performing than the LS-300. Finding a matching center channel may be difficult since the AS-C1 had been discontinued for quite some time. You could also use a AS-B2 or AS-B1 bookshelf speaker as a center channel also if you have room. I've seen those on ebay for a low price.

The matching center channel for the LS-300s is the LS-C100. The Mirage Omni C150 is a rebadged LS-C100. Athena and Mirage are sister companies. You can find a C150 here new on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/MIRAGE-OMNI-C150...item3a54c2a15f

The Athena version is here
http://athenaspeakers.com/products/ls-c100-overview/

Now if you only want to use what you have and not add a center channel, go with the F2.2's up front, and LS-300s as surrounds if you have space. If you don't have room for tower speakers as surrounds, use the WS-15s as surrounds and perhaps the LS-50s as rear surrounds if you have a 7.1 receiver.

You didn't mention what equipment you have. What receiver do you own and do you also have a subwoofer?

Thanks for the input Afro! I don't have a receiver yet, but I will probably pick something up to hold me over for another 6 months or so.

I just commited to this setup:

AS-B1-1 x2
AS-R1S-1 x1
AS-F1-1 x2
AS-C1-1 x1
AS-P400 x1

If everything works out tomorrow it will cost me $350 for the speakers and $150 to ship them.

What do you think? Did I make a wise choice?

i have F1's, B1's and C1's and like them all. I think you'll enjoy them. I used an Energy 10" sub with my Athenas.

You only got one AS-R1? Why?

It wasn't by choice that I only bought one R1. It was all that the guy had. I am buying his entire setup.

He's going to send his Yamaha receiver along with it, but it powers down right after you turn it on. I'm not sure what this might be. Any ideas?

From what I've read on here it is very hard to find more R1's. What would be a suitable substitute?

I would gladly take that one R1 off of your hands. I have 3 in a 6.1 setup that I want to convert to a 7.1.
In answer to your question, AS-B1's are great substitutes. I happen to have two extra. Want to talk?

Just ordered an Onkyo 3007 and want to take advantage of the 2 extra front height channels...

Current setup:
Fronts - Athena AS-F2
Center - Athena C Point-5
Surrounds - Athena S Point-5
Rears - Athena S Point-5

I see Audio Advisor has:
Athena - LS-50 Bookshelf speakers (pair) for $55
Athena - WS-15 Bookshelf speakers (pair) for $79

What speakers should I buy? I'd like to mount them around 8' high and angle them down a little bit.

thanks!

Hey guys, I'm kind of new to home theater, and was looking for some advice.

I've got a pair of polk monitor 30s right now, and while they're pretty good, i haven't been really amazed by them. I've been looking into athena speakers for an upgrade, but since I can't really listen to them before purchasing, I was wondering whether I should go for some B1s, F1s, F2.2s, or LS-300s.

I'm a college student right now, so these will be in a room about 120 sq ft and used mainly for music, but next year i'll be moving into a suite with some friends and we might begin to use them for HT as well.

WS-15 uses the same tweeter so it would be a better match sonically.

are you getting the black ones on Amazon?

I was looking at them on Audio Advisor's webpage, but since you mentioned it, I checked out Amazon and saw what they look like in black AND that they have free shipping there, whereas its like $16 at audioadvisor. woot!

now just to make up my mind that those are the exact speakers i want to get...

Viventis,

Sorry, the deal fell through. A couple of days before the guy was to ship them out they sold locally for $350. Someone got one helluva deal. It was a 6.1 setup with the Athena sub. They looked almost new in the pictures.

I ended up buying a 5.1 Polk Monitor setup with a BIC sub (thanks Afro GT!). I'm very happy with it, but I would have liked to have known what the Athenas sounded like.

Thanks anyway, Jason:

I am going to experiment this weekend with two AS-B1's and two AS-R1's for my surrounds. Anyone have a reason why one or the other should be my side backs or rear backs? The look of the room will be cleaner if the rear backs are the R1's, because they mount flush on the wall, whereas the B1's will be on swivel brackets.

I have PayPal ready to send you money.

Also, anyone selling AS-R1 let me know as I might be interested.

My setup is as follow:

Receiver- Denon Avr-1910
Center- WS 60
Front- WS 100
Rear - WS 15
Front Height- WS 15
Sub- Asp 400

I was looking at the manual, and it recommends that I should use the Direct in only if using the sub for LFE on home theater. Prior to this, i used a y splitter and plugged both the Direct in and Sub in.

What is the proper setup?

Hey everyone,
My buddy has an older pair of S3's that he recently discovered paired up with the P3 sub modules, which are very hard to find of course nowadays. He isn't very computer literate so I decided to pop in here and ask if anyone has a p3 sub or 2 lying around that they are willing to part with. Just send me a PM with some details and I'll get right back to you. Thanks everyone, sorry about the hijack.

I have been using 4 B1's and C1 for years and recently obtained sweet deal on pair of F1's and F2's and trying to decide which ones to keep. The F2's do have a bit fuller sound in low end, but I have a HSU so that is covered. But besides low end there is a difference in sound in mids, etc. between them, especially with vocals. I don't have audiophile ears so I will describe best I can. The F2's seem brighter and and the F1's seem warmer. I actually think I like sound of F1's better and I am surprised at the sound difference because I figured the extra woofer in F2 would just add more bass. Can someone with more experience give me thoughts on difference/preference between the two. Maybe the F1's color sound a bit compare to F2's which is maybe why they sound better to me, not sure. I haven't compared but with vocals in particular, would the B1's actually sound different and maybe actually better with the 5.5" compared to the towers? Thanks

Again, I am no expert at all, I have only owned cheap speakers in past. But I was playing some Eric Clapton and comparing my B1's to F1's and F2's. First thing is this test made me appreciate how great the B1's really sound for the cost. Anyway with vocals the F2 sound closer to B1. The F1's sounded like you put a sheet over the speakers. Erics voice sounded more open on the F2's. While listening to a soprano like Sarah Brightman the F1 had warmer/mellower sound which I liked better with her voice. The bass on F1 actually sounded a little more emphasized (not boomy) but not as low. On some music I preferred the F1's but the F2's sounded closer with vocal music to the B1's so I think I will keep the F1's.

I know nothing about speaker design and have question in regards to the 2 8" woofers in F2. Do they both play exactly same thing or is there some kind of crossover where one plays more bass and other plays more mids?

I am not sure, but the AS-F2 has a low end of 35 Hz whereas the F1 is 40 Hz.

Anyone recommend a center and pair of surrounds that would match the
S3s? I searched thru this thread and found some ideas, but some of those speakers are discontinued too. Finding them used may be difficult. Thanks.

I just bought a pair of F2's of Craigslist to complete my setup. On the back of the speakers they are labelled as AS F2-1. I assume that this is the original F2 and not the F2.2. Am I right?

The speakers sound great, and now I finally have a complete Athena As setup:
2x AS F2 (mains)
2x AS B2 (rears)
1x AS P400 (sub)
1x AS C1 (center)
2x AS B1 (height)

Onkyo TXNR807

I might move the B1s to the back. I'm still trying out the new PLIIz height channel, though.

I would assume so but I dont remember any of my Athenas having a -1 after them. I had AS-B2, AS-B1, AS-C1 and AS-F1 in the past 6-7 years plus a pair of Point 5's. Sold them all in the last year.

You can actually tell the original F2 vs F2.2 by looking at the drivers. The original model had black drivers while the F2.2 is silver/gray with a black dustcap The original model is about 7lbs heavier too.

Just wanted to say I've been using Athena's for the last 3 or 4 years.

harman/kardon AVR-645
AS-F2.2 (Mains)
AS-C1.2 (Center)
S.5 (Surrounds)
SVS PB10 (Sub)

LOVE THIS SETUP!

Since I bought the Point 5 Mark II System, I was using the S.5's for my surrounds as 7.1, but now dropped to 5.1 and using 2 S.5's for my computer as a 2.0. Hooked em up to an early 80's SAE 3100 Amplifier. This just showed off how good these speakers are and reminded me about you guys over here. Just dropping in to tell you all to keep on enjoying them.

Also bought my Father-in-law the LS-300 and love them.
