Fellas, I'm about to use a little bit of my wedding cash to buy a pair of RTi8's and move my RTi6's to surround duty. What kind of difference should I expect to hear going from the 6's to the 8's?

Ordinarily you would get at least 10 answers within a minute or two. But those who know anything had left, disgusted by censorship. Now you can post questions that are on topic, but there is nobody who can answer them.

To my ears, the RTI8's are a bit more "forward" than the 6's. If you've heard the RTI4's before, than you would have a pretty good idea on how the 8's sounded, with the exception that the 8's are more detailed. I like to say that the RTI8's have a very "live" sound to them. I've listened to Rock and Blues from the 60's through the 2000's and all recordings seem to take on that "you are there" feel. They do have a bit of a "sizzle" on the top end...not too bright, but depending on what you're listening to, you'll need to adjust the EQ accordingly. You can either add more power to open them up more (not necessary) or you can adjust the treble a notch or two to get to your happy spot. I think the 6's are a bit more mellow...and very nice, but I like the mid's better on the 8's as well.

I won't expect to much of a difference in SQ going from the 6's to the 8's. The 8's play a little bit louder than the 6's but either way you will need a subwoofer to compensate the lack of bass. Now if you go with the 10's or the 12's that's another story.

I was going to say better to buy a better sub, but saw the svs pic and assumed he would know?

I've got the subs on lock down, that's not an issue. If it was up to me I might've gotten 4's for surrounds and left the 6's in the front but the wife wants towers in the front cause the doesn't like the speaker stands. Any reason other than aesthetics to get a5's instead of the 8's?

You already have a CSi5 so go with the 8's to have at least the front stage all same series. In terms of SQ there is no difference between the RTi8 and the RTi A5, only aesthetics.

That's what I've heard. I'm pretty excited about getting these. This will essentially finish off my speaker setup. I just got married on Saturday and this is kinda my wedding present to my self. I'll move the 6's to surrounds and my current surrounds are going to go into my kitchen above the cupboards and hookup to the B speakers on my AVR.

What's going on in here? Are the Klipsch and Definitive threads getting cracked down on too or are the Polkies just getting singled out? Maybe we're all just a bunch of blabber mouths. I wonder if my posts about the position of my subs (SVS's not Polks) from a couple weeks ago got taken down too. If they did it's not cool. The reason I asked on here was because I'm sure there's a lot if people that have similar mixed brand sub/speaker set ups since subs isn't really where Polk shines. Isn't this the Audio Visual Science Forum? As long as what Evers being conversed about pertains someway to speakers, TVs, amps, movies, music, or what-have-you it should be fair game.

Public forum censorship?

Not to worry. There should be nothing wrong with talking about subs, and amps and receivers. Most people here not only want to know about them, but how they sound with or powering their Polks. Doesn't do me any good to hear from someone with another type of speaker, and besides, I trust the people here, so that's that. If it get's to the point where we can only talk about Polk speakers then I'll start complaining about every other thread on the board.

P.S. I think you'll love those RTI8's. Please let us know how they sound once you set them up.

Ok, now I'm not a real big bass guy. I like it more as a compliment in music ( I want to hear the notes, but chest thumping is not my deal) and I want to hear some rumble for HT but
don't want the walls to shake. How is the 505 in that regard? I'm really thinking that some of those other subs are just way to big for what I need.

I do not listen to a ton of music, mostly movies. For some of the SACDs that I listen to, I thought that the 505s were fine. I never experience the subs being "boomy", even playing
the dark side of the moon..Maybe a few others with the 505s could chime in as well.

I never tried the 505's mainly from what guys said here in this forum... not that they're bad, but that they just don't go down that deep. I do have a Polk DSW660 and it is solid, but not at all articulate. OTOH I've bought several Klipsch subs and have been very happy with them... but the Klipsch owners thread here on AVS is very unwelcoming to those who are not Klipsch fanatics (or at least that's the way it seemed to me). This thread has always been comfy, but to be honest, there was so much OT traffic that I could not keep up. I never said anything about it, but do prefer if half of what we discuss is about audio systems of any kind.... know what I mean?

Anyone have any experience with this: Parasound Amp: HCA-1205A?

I am considering getting this to run with my A7's and was wondering if 140w/channel would be sufficient? My other equipment is in my sig.

If it would be what would be a good price for it used.

That Parasound amp is enough to drive the A7s for sure. I love Parasound amps but unfortunately right now they are out of my budget. I do have a Parasound Halo P5 stereo pre amp and it is Awesome!! In general Parasound amps are highly appreciated by Polk Audio owners. The HCA-1205A sells in the used market for about $400 - $600 depending on its condition.

I do not listen to a ton of music, mostly movies. For some of the SACDs that I listen to, I thought that the 505s were fine. I never experience the subs being "boomy", even playing
the dark side of the moon..Maybe a few others with the 505s could chime in as well.

I've got a pair of 505's - and for being a budget sub they are pretty solid. with proper care taken in placement they are great. I dont have any real complaints other then not being able to get low enough for some LFE content on some blu-rays - but what they do do they do pretty well. that said i have been planning on upgrading to a better sub, just money keeps getting spent on other things first ya know. tongue.gif

Yep, the money always goes. I had a nice chuck set aside for a better sub, but ended up spending it on other hobbies. I'm really overdue for that lotto win. biggrin.gif

Well, we are back on business!

Anyone here running a two channel system? If yes, are you calibrating your system with a SPL meter at 75 dB?
