Should I upgrade from the Lsim 704c to the 706c?

Title says it all. I'm wondering whether I should take advantage of the Friends and family sale to upgrade my center from the 704c to the 706c? The 704c's have been so far matched with two 703 fronts and they've been doing pretty well together. I have, however, recently acquired two Lsim 705s to upgrade the fronts, with the intention of moving the 703s to the rear or using them as fronts in a strictly two-channel set-up... This is where the question of the of the 706c is coming up, especially because of the sale... I do not think I would bother replacing the 704c were it not for the sale... Still, before I pull the trigger, I want to know whether the 706c's will amount to a noticeable upgrade in the system... So far, I do have a lot of respect for the 704c, although I have not heard the 706c before. Kindly let me know what you think.

The present system is:

lsim 703 (2) + 704c (LCR)
lsim 702 f/x (2) surrounds

Once the 705s replace the two fronts, the 703s may be used as rear speakers or wides, or they'll service an independent 2-channel system.

question for you all

how would monitor70 work on the following system

denon 1611, currently running a cs1, bic f12 and 4 monitor 30. I have a bigger room now, 11' x 15' x 9' and I'm planning on the following upgrades

replace a pair of monitor30 by monitor 70, replace cs1 by cs2 and add a second bic f12. How would this go with the surround monitor30 ou maybe ceiling speakers for surround? Do I need better surrounds to pair with the cs2, monitor70?

No that should be a pretty good setup. I wouldn't worry about the surrounds, the 30's use the same speakers as the CS2 if you are worried about it. Ive never been a ceiling speaker fan but its something you will have to decide. I never liked they way that sounds and thats including "Higher end" speakers like the speakercraft AIM7 series . Actually most might tell you that you don't need the 70's if you have 4 30's since you'll be running two subs. The 70's will only really benefit you in two channel music if you have it setup right.

Im a bit of a hippo myself though. I do a lot of 2 channel music but I bought the 70's because I've always subscribed the bigger is better methodology lol. You might looking into a 7.2 with the setup but either way you'll be happy!

thought about that, but I don't think I will have enough space in the back to have back surrounds. The house came with ceiling speakers and the wife likes the idea but I also thought about moving everything just a bit to de front and then using M30 as surrounds and the ceiling speakers as back surrounds, but I'm not sure this would work well.

IIRC the M30, 40 and 60's all use 5" drivers, while the CS2 uses 6" drivers.

The M30 would however match the CS1, but that tends to be a weak center.

.

Polk RtiA9's, Denon 3312ci & Emo XPA-5 amp, CsiA6, RtiA7 surrounds, FxiA6 rears, twin Klipsch Synergy Sub-12's, DSW660 & Lsi9's upstairs

Technically 5.25" and 6.5" respectively but yeah, correct.

Polk still considers the CS2 a match with all of these speakers. I use the CS2 with M60s up front and M30 surrounds and it works great. Yes, the CS1 is a weak center. Go with the CS2.

Could someone recommend the best Polk tower speakers for my setup? I currently have the following:

AVR: Denon X2000
Center: Polk CS2 ii
Surrounds: Polk RC85i
Rear Surrounds: Polk RC85i
Sub: Klipsch Sub12

I was thinking RTi series, maybe the RTi8s since I already have a sub. I mainly play video games and movies. Thanks!

Hello all,

I just ordered my first receiver, Yamaha v675! :-) For my front speakers I got Polk Audio Monitor 70 Series II and CS2 Series II for my center.

I would like some advice for the surrounds, I'm looking at the Polk Audio Monitor 30 Series II. I heard they're the same speakers at the CS2 so they sound sound great together.

Also for a sub which should I get and should I get two? I'm thinking just going big and getting the HSU STF-2.

Last does it matter what speaker wire I get?

Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thanks!

Yes, the 30s are timbre matched to your 70s and CS2 and will work just fine.

Need a lot more information before any recommendations on subs. I'd suggest going to the sub forum with room measurements, etc. Going "big" and dual is certainly the right direction to head.

Just get the proper gauge wire for the lenth of runs you need. That's all that matters. See here: http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm#wiretable

Alright thanks. Would the 30s or 40s be better? The 30s I can mount but I hear the 40s are heavy and would probably need a stand.

I can get the 40s for $110 from newegg right now while the 30s are $100, not much of a difference. So I would wanna go with the better choice for me.

Looking to finally upgrade to some good home audio equipment. Looking at RTiA9, FXiA6 and CSiA6 as my speaker setup to get me started. If anyone has a coupon they can send me it would be super appreciated so I can make this dream a reality. Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks.
