Were the Diamond 10.1 Bookshelf Speakers $350 before? They are now selling them for $250.
Are these good for movies?

I will be running a pair (3.1 later) with my Yamaha RXV381. Will this be sufficient?
Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) 100 W (8 ohms, 0.9% THD)
Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven) 70 W (8 ohms, 0.09% THD)
Maximum Effective Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) (JEITA) 140 (6 ohms, 10% THD)
Dynamic Power per Channel (8/6/4/2 ohms) 110 / 130 / 160 / 180 W

SHould I buy them from Musicdirect.com or Amazon?

Show some pics of it. Never seen the Rosewood other than website images. Are they the same rosewood color as Reva line or different?

How big is your room? And how loud do you listen to your music/movies? Generally the bookshelfs are fine for movies as long as you have a subwoofer which you should have for movies anyway.

Living room is kinda big with 10 foot ceilings. TV is about 6 to 8 foot away. I plan to get a subwoofer later.

After about 3 hours my first impressions of Pros and Cons.
Prons:
The bass gets deep and exciting with music. I don't think I'll need a subwoofer with them because the bass sounds like a natural fit for the music. Another noticeable quality are how they handle vocals. Voices really come alive with these speakers. Almost popping out of the speakers into room. This is an improvement over the Diamond 250 sound which are also really good but the Jades are more holographic in the mid range area.
I didn't realize that there are no bass ports, so the speakers can be placed within 4 inches of a wall.

Cons:
Poorly recorded or mastered music may suffer.
Even though the speakers can be placed close to a wall. Wharfedale still recommends that they be at least 6.5 feet apart. I could only get to 5 ft.
The Gloss Piano finish makes them a fingerprint and smudge magnet.
The Low sensitivity @86 db, means more power is required to drive.

Music tested.
Diamond Life - Sade
Into The Shadow - Slowly Rolling Camera
Harmonic Discovery - Stimulus Timbre
Part 2 - Road to Arcadia
Celtic & Hebridean symphonies - Granville Bantock
Symphony 3 - Camille Saint-Saens

Was looking pretty hard at a Jade 7/C2/3 setup in Rosewood, and started calling around. Sounds like Wharfedale is discontinuing the Jade line (which is probably why there are smokin' deals at MusicDirect right now). Sad to see that line go. Looks like it had potential...

Jades are nice speakers so if you can get Jade full setup then go for it. You will get better speaker for your money. Who cares if its discontinued as long as it sounds good? Speakers just like everything else in life always get replaced for something newer. There are some Jades on Audiogon as well. Beautiful speakers!

I know what you mean! You can try audiogon and other classifieds. The REVA line looks beautiful too especially the rosenut finish.

I'm sure you guys hate these types of questions but I'm stuck between the 10.2 and Dentons (among others I won't mention). I will get sub in the future but not right away. Textured bass (detailed bass, not flabby overload) and crisp highs (not shrieking, detailed) are wanted.

Sources:

Tape deck
Record player
Bluetooth apt x
USB dac

Here's what I listened to this week:

Madonna - open your heart

Madonna - into the groove

New order - bizarre love triangle

Earth wind fire - September

Donna summers - heaven knows

The clash - should I stay or should I go

Kavinsky - night call

Some newer electronic genres like synth wave and lo-fi vaporwave. I like rock too, mostly 70s stuff (Pink Floyd, ccr, Fleetwood Mac, etc). Rap from the 90s (not the highest of audiophile grade productions) like 2pac, Nas, biggie.

Primarily I like pop, disco, new wave. What's the best of those two that'd keep me happy going from record to tape to high res streaming/downloads?

I'm coming from non ported, fully enclosed studio monitors (nht m-00) so either of these will probably be a good upgrade.

Just picked up my Wharfedale Music/HT kit.
Diamond 225 fronts, 220C Center and 210 rears on Wharfedale stands up front. So far I just have the 225's hooked up and out of the box I'm impressed.

Decided to update my old Opus Tri Center. We will see how the SVC sounds. I'm still running a full set of Evo2 30s/20s and Opus Tri-surrounds.

I currently have 9.5's, 9.cm, 9cr's and 9.2's. I'm looking to grab another set for the living room. No sub, just casual music listening/TV use. 10.2's and 220's seems to be around the same price, the 10.2's have a larger woofer, so maybe they would be the better choice without a sub?

I like how the 9.2's sound in the living room, plenty of bass for most uses, I had a little SMSL SA50 sitting around and I was very surprised how loud it gets with minimal distortion and it works pretty well just using the audio out on my TV and the control to adjust the volume, may do something else later, but it's a pretty clean setup with a wall mounted TV. Maybe I should just watch for another pair of used 9.2's? The surround does seem to be an issue on these. I had to refoam my 9.5's and CM, but the 9.2's are still ok.

From my short time with the 225's I can say that the bass, with proper placement, is surprisingly good up to moderately loud levels. You may want to consider these as well if the budget can stretch.

Yeah, that would be really stretching it.. Does a set of used 10.2's for 250 sound reasonable? I think that's about what I paid for my 9.2's 8-9 years ago.

Well, I lost the 10.2's. What would be a reasonable price for 9.2's?

Won some 10.1's for 150 shipped. Very happy with them, they don't go quite as deep as the 9.2's but they do sound nicer overall. I was wondering about the threaded mounting holes on the back, and it would be nice to have them up on the wall centered with the TV (about 5ft to the top of my 50") at a slight angle.

I did find these http://www.audioaffair.co.uk/wharfed...-speakers-pair but can't seem to find them in the US. Any ideas?

Jade 1

I recently opened up my new Jade 1 bookshelves that are to be used for a dedicated 2 channel set up. Wow, do these things sing! No regrets. I had them partnered at first with an SVS PB-1000 in my 2000 c.f. room, and they sounded excellent. I swapped out the sub for a Rythmik L12 that I bought from another forum member and I couldn't be happier with this combo. The bass is not as powerful at the PB-1000 but together the Jade/Rythmik combo is heaven for music listening.

Falcon, that's good to hear as I think I might be about to get a pair of these to replace 2 of my Evo 10s.

Seggers

Vizio M80-C3, Denon X6300H, Emotiva UPA5 (triggered), Wharfedale Pacific Evo 40s, CS, 10s, PC DX12 sub, Def Tech A60 Atmos tops, the internet, an ASUS ChromeBox running Kodi, a TiVo Series 3 and a Philips BDP7501 UHD . There's also a Wii, but we don't talk about that...
