I'd really like to crack open the OMDR's and hear what they sound like.. Just don't know if it would be worth it,but then again, like you said,I'd always wonder..What if... Grrrrrrrrr!

However, it could be that it was placed too close to the wall plus being on a cardboard box wasn't the best thing to have it on. I'd say this would make a good main speaker. Mids and highs were very clear and lifelike. It has a fuller, richer sound than the C1 which it should considering the larger woofers. This informal evaluation was done listening to several well-recorded CD tracks played in mono.

Compared to the 15's, the C2 has a better midrange. It is cleaner - the 15 has a little more resonance to voices and the C2 sounds more natural or lifelike, female voices in particular. The highs were comparable.

Would you dare to say that a pair of C-2 could be better from a pair of 15's in a 2.0 mode?
I know that the C-2 is made for a center channel in HT, but your review gives me that impression...
Is that so?

I can't possible believe that.. They are designed for certain things. All of the sound would be dispersed way different.. The towers would be better..

I wouldn't mind trying that except for me it is not practical because the C2's are so wide. There just isn't enough room. I know the midrange impressed me as better and they can handle bass for sure.

As an aside, Vann's is advertising a call for huge discounts on their web site today so I called about the 28's but they said nope, the best they can do is the price on the page.

I think I'm gonna keep the Mirages a few more days.. I called and they said it was ok.. Its possible I might like the OMDR's more than the Def tech 8040 surrounds. Just wondering ,with those bigger front firing drivers on the OMDR's,I would think you would want to mount those on the back wall right?

I tried two c-1's as left and rights and a c-2 as the center...the better sounding setup was with just one center. It was hard to pinpoint left and right pans such as cymbals, voices, & gunshots etc.

So which center did you decide to keep, and what did you do with the other two?

Kept the two C-1's and UPS JUST picked up the C-2about 10 minutes ago HA
HA!
If you want a good deal on a C-2 it should show up on clearance maybe by this weekend! The rep asked me why i was sending it back and i told her that the C-1 played guitars with much more realism "just like in concert" than the C-2 even when calibrated on my Dennon. The guitar solos on most DTS concerts are panned right to the CENTER channel and the C-1 just blew away the C-2 when it came to shear loud correct guitar tone. And since i have a good sub i was able to recalibrate it to reproduce the bass the C-1 was lacking...once i did that then there was no need to purchase the C-2. I just prefer the midrage driver on the C-1 to the one on the -C-2. BUT in a larger room the C-2 would be able to work louder with less effort. To me it see it seems if you have a capable sub then the C-1 is all you need and which midrange driver you prefer. I kept a C-1 as a spare and OMD5's as left and right.

I was reading the mirage manual online and it says to break the speakers in using dynamic music at a lower volume for 100 hrs before you start eq-ing and listening at higher levels.

Grrrrrrr I don't have time to break the center and rear mirage's in for that amount of time.. I will probably just send them back. I can't imagine they would be better than the def tech's anyhow..

No reason you can't run Audyssey now. You don't need to wait 100 hours.

Of course a manufacturer is going to tell you to "break in" the speakers for a long period of time... Gives the buyer time to acclimate to the sound, and makes it less likely that they'll return it.

Just give them a real demo, and then you don't have to guess which sounds better.

So I know I asked about this once before but now I'm concerned with purchasing omd 5s and drowning out the nanosat prestige center. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Am I just paranoid? I know the OMD5s are much better, by the numbers anyway, than OS3s. I want to pull the trigger and I don't have the cash to have 7.1 with OMD 5s so I figured I'd start with the front channel. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I say do it now. You yourself said you didn't hear any difference in the 15's over the breaking in period so if there is no difference in sound, it won't make any difference to Audyssey if you wait or do it now. The only real reason to do any sort of break in is like the manual said, for mechanical reasons but it should only take at the most a couple of hours to do that.

It's fine to run Audyssey on brand new speakers. If you keep the speakers, just run Audyssey again after they're broken in.

My Mirage OMDs didn't seem to change much, if at all, with break in, but some speakers do. (Speakers I used to own from Soliloquy took a particularly long time to break in.) The need for break in probably depends on the stiffness of the surrounds used on the driver cones.

Why don't you go "old school" and skip audessy? Do a manual setup for now. Audessy is over rated IMO.

I'm excited. I really want some OMDRs but would like an opinion from someone who has heard them before. I would like to use them as sides, and debating on using them as rears or front wides. Audyssey says to use directs for front wides, but they'll be wall mounted, so the tweeter and mid-range on one side would be direct at the listening position, this would count right , lol. Can't wait to hear your impressions.

-Sean

Edit: Ok, so I got too antsy and said screw it, lol. I just ordered 4 OMDRs and a pair of OMD5s. I will plan to use them as follows:

OMD5s: Front Height
OMDRs: Front Wide
OMDRs: Sides
LCRs: CHT Sho-10s

I hope this will sound good, I would have gone with OMD15s as LCRs, but I'm worried about them being placed too close to the wall. That being said, I will be hanging the OMD5s upside down in the corner of the walls/ceiling, will this be a placement issue?

Wow, since the one channel on my receiver has a bit of static I reset the microprocessor which reset everything to default settings. It didn't fix the issue but I'm now listening to the speakers with no Audyssey at all and it sounds like garbage. I really appreciate the Audyssey correction now.

Do you or anyone know what the lowest price Vann's has ever listed for the 28's in either color?

$1,199 looks like a good price. I'm sort of glad I want black and not rosewood.

Have you used a system with MultEQ XT32? It's a huge leap over prior Audyssey versions?

Unless you've got perfect speakers that are perfectly placed in a room that is acoustically perfect, one could argue that any system would be better with such calibration and correction than without it. With Mirage speakers in particular, because of the way they use room reflections more than most other speakers, room correction becomes even more important.
