Question on the C1. According to the manual it says not to put it on top of the television.

I'll be using a 65 or 70" TV on a low stand (like 12-18") and was planning on putting a center on top of the TV using a flat screen mount
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_769CSB1...-1206-BLK.html

Even at 8" the C1 is going to be too tall to sit in front of the screen.

Will it not work sitting up that high? The shelf can be angled somewhat.

Thanks
Gene

Cool! Thanks. How or what does it sit on upside down like that?

I finally pulled the trigger on OMD-5s to replace my Polk m30 surrounds. Didn't get them at a steal like some of you guys during the Vanns sale, but scored two open box speakers with warranty for $170 and $180.

So my question is how do you guys prefer to mount them if mounting high? I have 10' ceilings in my living room and plan on mounting very close to the ceiling. Who prefers them mounted upside down? What about tilting downward 30 degrees?

Thanks for the quick reply. Any suggestions on mounting brackets? Something cheap under $50 a pair. I was looking at omnimounts, but they have mixed reviews.

I'm using an omnimount with my C1. It's not strong enough to hold the speaker at any angle, but it will easily hold it in the bottom position which for the C1 is perfect. I'll take a pic of mine and post it tomorrow. As long as you mount it to a stud there's no chance of the speaker falling, it's just that like I said you won't be able to adjust it to any angle and have it stay, at least with the C1 you can't. You might be able to with the OMD-5 though.

Upside down it is then! Thanks I really appreciate the tips, guys. The speakers arrive Wednesday; hopefully I can have my living room painted, and set up the home theater by next weekend to test out the OMD5s.

How far is it from where they are mounted to the listening position? It may be you do want to tilt them downward some.

Well since my dad is out of town till late May I was able to borrow his C2 today from him and sit my C1 aside for a bit to try it out. My Civic wasnt big enough to take his 28s also. lol. Thought bout the omdr's to try but dont have anywhere to place them really. After running YPAO setup on my Yamaha avr I got waaaay different results compared to C1 being hooked up. With the C1 connected after YPAO the c1 was listed -2 db and everything else was 0.0db cept 1 other spkr was -0.5. After running YPAO with C2 connected my front 15s went from 0 to +6.5 the c2 +6.5 my rear omd5s +6.5 and +4.0. I found that real weird. Anyone know why that would be? I've only been trying it out for little bit so far watching iron man 2. So far I like the C2 a lot it seems to fill the room a lot more than my c1. It def packs more punch than the c1. I do have to say with these new YPAO settings with C2 everything seems a lot more alive to me but could be I don't have to turn the volume up as much. Going to be trying it out some more though.

Edit: Got it resolved now

They look great and would match better with my Mirage fronts and center.

I bought a pair of the Omnican OC-55s when Newegg blew them out at $50. I have 2 OMD-5s for L & R (ceiling mounts -will be upside down) plus the OMDC-1. Just wondering how the Omnican 55s would work as rears in this HT set-up. I have no place for floor standing speakers hence ceiling mounts for all but center OMDC-1 & as yet un-purchased 8" or 10" sub. Space for TV not big but is open to kitchen.

None are as yet installed. Thanks for any feedback!

you should have blown the whistle earlier...
I am considering to buy a pair of in-ceiling set of Mirage speakers for my bedroom for rears along with the Unitheater 3-in-1...
the closest I can get is a pair of Omnican OC-45s in Germany for $265 plus shipping.....
too pricy for my wallet....
a pair of my nanosat's will do the job, unless I grab a real deal from e-bay...

Sorry Spiros-GR, that newegg deal was about 6 months ago, before I was aware of this thread. Keep an eye on 'world wide stereo' daily deal. They had the OC-55 for $123 a week ago. I can't post the URL, new here.

Not considering the better bass of the larger speaker (i.e. if you crossed both at 60 or 80 hz), how much better is the OMD-28? How well does the 15 compete with the 28? I know the 28 is better, but would I need to do a/b comparisons to find small details or is the difference immediately apparent?

Sorry for the late post...

I think it depends on your use - HT or Music. I have a pair of both speakers along with several pair of the 5's.

At one time I ran a Parasound 2250 (250w/ch @ 8ohms) to both the 15s and the 28s for music (one pair at a time). Huge difference in sound in the low end for the 28's (IMHO). For HT, didn't notice as much a difference because there's three other speakers in play plus a sub.

In the last month, I moved the 2250 to the office where the 28s are and I'm going through a renaissance revisiting my music collection that's been ripped to ALAC via sonos. I'm actually using the pre-amp portion of my first stereo (NAD 7130) to the 2250 and it sounds amazing. Three years later, falling in love with the 28's again...

My 15's are powered by another parasound amp - 5125 (5 x 125w) and that's suited nicely for both music and HT. When we have parties, we wind up putting the 2 x 15's, 2 x 5's and 1 x c1 in party mode, so there's music enveloping the room, but not overpowering from the 15's...

I don't think the 125w is enough for music with the 28's. I did not do much A/B testing using this amp...

I think it comes down to your personal preference to what the primary use is for and what you have powering them. Don't forget they are bigger: taller, couple inches wider tiny bit deeper and you want to pull them away from the wall...

I've only had my 28's for a little more than a week and haven't gotten them fully setup in a final position yet but I agree with what was written above. I love mine. First thing I noticed was that the 28's are much stronger in the bass section. And they need a lot more power than the 15's - I would recommend a dedicated amp and not an AVR. And they are huge! Even though by the specs it wouldn't seem like a few inches makes that much difference, in person it does.

Are the 28's 3x (price-wise) better than the 15's? No, but I would say they are a noticeable upgrade. Better/deeper bass, smoother on the mid's and upper's but still detailed, and able to handle volume peaks better. The 15's are no slouches but the 28's are a step up (assuming you have enough power and can position them properly).

I think the current pricing for the OMD line is a great deal for their price. I'd love to get some of the nicer Salks and have them powered by Parasound Halos or JC's, but now you're talking some coin...

My original thought was to move the OMDs to the room where the older OMs are, but found that I would have to stick them out farther for the omnipolar vs bipolar, so scrapped that idea... I really wanted to A/B the OM6's vs the OMD-28s with the 250w amp, but was too much work and not enough space - someday...

Hello everyone. I'm in the market to finally purchase some surround sound speakers to finish my 5.1 HT system.

My question is what is the difference between the OMD5s, Mirage Nanosat Prestige and Mirage OS3Sat? I'm a little confused on which ones to get because the price and size difference from each one.

The OMD5's are the biggest yet are the same price as the smallish nano sats while the middle sized OS3Sat is the most expensive. Is it because they sound that much better or are the OMD5's discontinued or something.

OMD5

Nanosat Prestige

os3sat

Does anybody have any experience with any of these or can give me some feedback on this I would greatly appreciate it.

@loboblast,

Personally, from all the above I own 5 nano's and I love them. they sound so good that many times make me wonder how much better the OMD line is and keep me in play to buy (in the future when I can afford it) the 15's or the big 28's....
everybody in here says that the 5's must be your choice especially at this prices as they are discontinued.
Basically the whole Mirage firm is 6 ft under, due to Klipsch envy.... (they bought it and destroyed it.)

So,grab the chance while you still can and buy yourself the latest omniguide satellites from our beloved Mirage...
the OMD5's...
And I say the latest and probably the last ones,as the series must have evolved like this: OS-1---->V2---->OS3---->OMD5
nanosat's and MX series are smaller ones but very impressive too... I love them both...

p.s. Like you, I also own the Mirage Unitheater soundbar and will use it with a pair of nano's or OC-45's for the setup in my bedroom...

Thanks for the reply. I was set on the OMD5's but just checked sounddistributors.com and they have the OS3Sat's for only $150. They are located down the street from where I live. Same place where I bought my unitheater and mm6. NO sales tax if I pay cash.

Should I pull the trigger on those or get the OMD5's?? Ahhh decisions decisions.

The OMD-5 are a much better speaker and deal period. What are you using as a center channel, the OMD-C1 goes with the OMD-5's and is a awesome center.

I'm buying 2 Mirage M5si speakers tomorrow, because I was told they'd match my other speakers tonally, and I wanted to make sure my Onkyo tx-nr808 has enough power for them and the other speakers I own plus a subwoofer.

Atlantic Technologies 254 SR Surround Speakers
Mirage OM-C3 center channel speaker
I'll be buying a PSB 5I
and I may still use the Mirage M-290s

Please let me know before I buy if you can.

Should I pull the trigger on those or get the OMD5's?? Ahhh decisions decisions.

Omd-5s all day long.

Ditto. I've had both and would go with the 5's.
