Probably pretty close to 20 years old now that I think about it!, bought them used from a Def Tech dealer owner back in 2004 I think.

Mids and highs work fine BTW

Thoughts?
If indeed is is the amp that is bad you might try getting in touch with Bajawaverunner through EBay store. They are out of San Diego. I bought quit a few DefTec parts from them.

I think I'm going to use CLR2500's for my Atmos speakers instead of the Mirage omd5's.
I'm running powered FULL range speakers ALL the way around everywhere else and really like the sound.
I already have two so I need to pickup 2 more.
I'm thinking they will take better advantage of the full range signal from Atmos and DTSX...

If you already have 2, go ahead and mount them as your FH and see what you think, since they get more of a workout than the RH, the only challenge I can see is using a solid enough mount that will still allow the powered woofer to not be constricted, since they are so heavy.
I will say though, I actually do like the CLR2000's better than the SM450's I was using, not a big change, but enough of one, esp since we're dealing with reasonably priced, used speakers, instead of full priced new ones.

*Warning* None of my suggestions, ideas or even thoughts have any WAF, in any way!

I think I'll do that.
I've already figured out the mount I'll be using. It's a piece of 1" square stock that runs from cap to cap on the back of the speaker and angle iron across each end welded together in an "I" shape. I pulled back the sock on each end then installed two screws on each end to attach it to the speaker.
This is how I mounted my 3 upper front CLR3000's and it works great. I was thinking this time I'd just add a poll and foot to it to mount it to the ceiling. Just need to figure out the angle needed so I can point them at the seating.

Yesterday I was able to get the 4 BPVXP's mounted and cal'd in time for Jerry Garcia's special tribute concert at Red Rocks!
It sounds fantastic.
After that I checked out Billy Lynn's long halftime walk in 4k at 60 frames per second.
WoW! That really took a minute to get used to but it was definitely smooth.
The new addition of the upper surrounds really pushed the ceiling up and added a whole new level of dimensions to the sound.
Can't wait to get the atmos/DTS-X ceiling speakers installed.

4 BPVX/Ps! Wow that's crazy stuff. Those old Def Tech wedge bipolar speakers were awesome.

Yeah I know a lot of people prefer the non-powed version of these but I really love the fullness and with their powered bottom end you can adjust them up to really kick at lower volumes.

Wish they still made them

Funny thing is I could have sworn I had a pair but I found a pair of BPVX non powered ones that I sold on here.

I have SM 65 mains and center and SM 55 surrounds. That's my whole system except for the PB-1000 which I really like.

That's right I read that.
That's a sweet setup.
What made you get away from dipoles?
I've been hearing a lot of really great things about the 65's. They are getting a huge following. It's good to see DT getting some love again.

They are just too hard to place and setup right in your room. When they are setup right and you can set them up right it's incredible. Just didn't work for my room at all. I did deliberately move away from bipolar speakers.
The studio monitor line is awesome to be honest. On sale right for a ridiculous price.

Yeah I saw that someone posted the pricing on them at BB... killer deals!
When I was redoing the setup in my Living room I looked at DT's.. I really wanted them but wound up with some wall hangers from HTD. I picked up the Versa 1's and added 2 Martin Logan Dynamo 700w subs. The sound fantastic plus the wife got to do her thing with the caps and socks... they really look good in the room.

So it seems your building a really nice 7.4 atmos system. So you have clr3000s up front and then bpvxs in back? What speakers are you using for overhead?

Well I built this theater 11 years ago when we built our house. A little over a year ago I started gathering equipment for a complete remodel.
I removed the big Klipsch speakers, subs, Carver amps projector... yada yada.
The only thing that stayed was the screen.
So flash forward I just purchased one of the last two Atmos speakers needed to finish my build.
I was going to use OMD5's for the ceiling but I've changed direction and now I'm going with the DT clr2500..

So once this is complete I will have three levels of speakers..
The ground level has
OM5's x6 ft L/R, SS, BS
clr3000 x1 center
The mid level has
clr3000 x3 ft L/C/R
BPXV/P x4 SS, BS
The ceiling level has
clr2500 x4

I'm running a clr3000 above and below the PJ screen..for my center channel.

Very nice must sound awesome. Prior to installing my di6.5 for atmos I was researching if it was possible to mount the bpx or bpvx to the ceiling. I couldn't find anyone who did that. I still think they would sound great directly above you for atmos. Much better than in ceiling.

DI 6.5 str is a dual tweeter in wall speaker.

I've been waiting for months and months to see if anyone has used these and what their thoughts were.

Not the same as a BPVX at all, but it's gotta be a bit better than the standard 6.5...Right?

I've heard of people mounting the BPX/BPVX sideways for height speakers.

Yeah in all honesty the di 6.5 blends in very well with the other 6.5 drivers I have. I can't tell a difference.

I have those in my ceiling, 5.1.2 Atmos, configuration as "top middle". I love them and they look nice. I haven't tested them in isolation, and it's difficult to compare with my older speakers since it's only atmospheric effects, but I do feel they fill the room a lot better (older ones were polk audio rc60i).

I've mounted 4 BPVXP's vertically and high on the side walls for my "upper" surrounds.
I'm running 4 Mirage om5's at ear level for my lower surrounds.

I'm using 4 clr2500 mounted to the ceiling for my Atmos heights speakers

While I've heard the BPVX's before as surrounds, I'd be curious to hear the difference between the wedge design of the BPVX/P vs the 180° of the towers, when using them as surrounds and rears. Very nice.

That's all I needed to hear. When I have the time and $ for an amp and speaker install those are going to be my RH choice.

Any ideas on which in-ceiling speakers to use as surrounds in a 5.2 system that would match well with Studio Monitor 55 fronts?

Depends on your space....
For an enclosed space, where the surrounds would be within a few feet of the rear wall, I'd look at the Di-6.5 (now called DT-6.5)
But in a large space or great room, I'd consider the UIW RCS II.
