You mean we can't mount the 170's on the wall? What's wrong with that?

The CBM-170SE cannot be mounting flush against a wall since it is rear ported....it a few inches of clearance. There are some mounting solutions that provide this.

The HTM-200 is not ported, so it can go right up against the wall, which make mounting easier.

How many inches of clearance does it need? Is 2" OK? Can you refer me to the mounting solutions you are talking about? Is there a link to them? Thanks.

What was your order date chasw98? Mine was January 27, and I was wondering when I might expect them.

Did you order 170SE's or 340SE's? I think the 340's are backordered, while the 170's are not....could be wrong though.

Thanks a bunch. SOrry to return to this silly question but what if you don't cross them at 80 Hz? What if you run them as LARGE? Do I need more than 3 inches of airspace between the 170SE and the wall?

Hey folks,

For those of you that have 170SE's as surrounds, how have you mounted them? I bought Omnimount 20's (can hold up to 20 pounds) to get the 170SE side surrounds on my walls but rethinking this per comments above.

Thinking some more about this there are only few choices to mount these:

(1) On really tall stands
(2) On wall using mounts with long shafts
(3) On ceiling
(4) On table stands
(5) Other

Has anybody had to solve this one before? I can't imagine I am the first one. (BTW, I am running all speakers as LARGE if that matters.)

I have the OmniMount 20's also. I had an aluminum plate made that will adapt the Omnimount to the 170 so that I could use the threaded inserts on the rear. Worked very well.

rizz - AFAIK you are probably looking at another month of waiting on the 340SEs. Unless you ordered way ahead of me and yours are on the way. They told me that they were out of parts for the 340s and more won't be in their hands until mid-April...

March 1st.

I don't actually need mine until May, but I heard about the backorder situation so I went ahead and got my order in.

Aren't you bothered by the short space between the back of the speaker and the wall? Some here telling me that this is a no-no for the 170's cause they are rear ported. Is this BS?

After reading about all the delays, I'm glad I ordered my 7.1 SE setup back in January. I got mine in 10 days, and like someone said I spoke directly with Dave F when I placed the order. I am however waiting in line for my Hsu HO sub.... should be late April when I see that.

Right now, I only have the 340's across the front hooked up. The 4 - 170's I have are on the floor and haven't even been hooked up yet. My HT is still in progress, so I have no use for them yet.

I still love the sound these make and I am really surprised at the amount of low end the 340's put out. They aren't going to crack your ribs or anything, but they really do well.

I ordered a 170SE-340SE-170SE setup in late feb, Dave emailed me and said the 340SE wouldn't be availible until late march/early april, but he could ship the 170SE's out right away. I got those about two weeks ago, along with my HTM-200 surrounds. Amazing sound...

model numbers 92006577 and 92006578. Interesting that i got consecutive model numbers. i was really suprised at how much air the rear port pushed, i would give it no less than three inches behind...you can definantly still feel a good amount of air from 3 inches away.

Could someone please tell me if the HTM-200 come with everything needed to wall mount them out of the box, or is it necessary to purchase a bracket separately? I'd like to have them flush against the wall.

Thanks much

After checking with Dave, I just screwed in a small hook on the back (drilled a ~ 0.5" deep hole the proper size beforehand) and hung them on a sturdy picture hook (that is securely in the wall). This is what makes the 200's so convenient as surrounds. And if you've read much on the Ascend threads, you will know that Dr. Hsu actually prefers the 200's for ALL of his speakers--left, center, right, surrrounds--to go with his subs. The 170's and 340's are certainly more speaker (and I'm glad I do have the 340's as L/C/R), but in the role of surrounds for HT the 200's are more than adequate (IMHO).

Does not come w/ bracket, but is pre-drilled to accomodate most mounts. The omnimount 20 does not allow flush mounting (closest is maybe 2-3" from wall). In the Ascend forum, some have used picture hangers (wires spanning the 2 mounting holes, hanging on a hook). Or this, I came across in the forum too:

http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product...ferings_id=344

Here's the thread I came across a while back about how to use it:

Hey........anyone! After ordering my speakers back in January, I just discovered that the package price for the same speakers that I ordered individually on Ascend's site appears to be substantially less expensive. Am I seeing that right??? It looks to be a difference of $200.00. Duh! Does that seem right?
I wouldn't think there would be any difference! If so, I need to talk to Ascend before they ship mine, and charge my credit card.........

Thanks cschang, I just emailed them, and will probably call tomorrow. I would never believe the difference would be as great as I calculated. If my figures were correct, the savings would be $196.00. That is very substantial.

Any of you fellas using a different make for your surrounds with a full set of 340 fronts ?? In my hometheater room I am only able to flush mount my surrounds so that leaves the 340s and 170s out of the question. The 200s are sealed box and would do the trick but i'm not sure if they are up to the quality standards of the 170 or 340s. any feedback would be appreciated.
