Good luck to you! My wife and I are going through the same thing right now. I'd love to sell my 340/170 classics and pick up some SE's, but it just isn't in the budget right now. I did manage to pick up a HD-DVD player, but the funds are coming primarily from the sale of some other gear. That IVF definately isn't cheap. I don't know how old you and your wife are, but we're in our mid thirties with the wife at 37. After you pass about 35, the cost skyrockets. Anyway, just wanted to say good luck.

The previous post may contain spoilers, which will make the post less aerodynamic and increase handling at high speeds.

I just turned 33 and my wife is 30. Thankfully my employer has decent fertility insurance coverage. Even with the coverage we've shelled out around $4 or $5k this year in co-pays. Without insurance I'm sure we'd be around the $20k mark (first round was around $16k, 2nd round around $3k since we have frozen embryos from the first round).

Hopefully it works out well for the two of you too. We both know how much is involved in this process (wife had a moderate case of OHSS in the first round).

Our prego test is this Sunday, wife and I are definitely keeping the fingers crossed.

I am looking to get 3 340SEs and a pair of 170SEs for surrounds in the next month or two. Has anyone done any write-up on how the 340SEs sound for music on this thread or elsewhere they could point me to? I know they will sound great, but I still like reading other people's thoughts and fantasizing about how it will sound. I plan on pairing them with an HSU VTF-3 Mk2 sub as well.

After work, mowing the lawn, etc. Man that stuff really gets in the way! I had some time to get the new speakers set up while I was watching Fun With Dick and Jane. Although it's not a great movie for sound there is some surround activity and I like what I'm hearing from the 170SEs. Panning from fronts to surrounds seems to be noticably smoother and these speakers seem to match my L/C/R 340 classics better than the little surrounds I had previously. There is a rain storm in the movie and the effect was very convincing. Upgrading surround speakers is certainly not going to be the most bang for my buck, but they're a big improvement over what I had before and I'm really digging the new toys.

I was a little surprised by the size of the new speakers but I'm also a little surprised that the styling is as different from the 340s as it is. The 170s are fatter than the 340s and my 340s don't look as big as they once did. They used to be one of the dominant presences in the room but now it seems the 170s are stealing some of the lime light. Although they both have the same finish, the rounded look of the 170s and the sharp corners of the 340s are quite different. This is more of an observation than a complaint. I'm quite happy with my speaker set up. Now if I could just decide on which sub to upgrade to, I'll be all set.

I just talked to Ascend and they will be in full production mode on Monday as most of their supplies are coming in tomorrow. So it looks good for an early May delivery. I placed my order on March 12.

Dave F. posted this in the Ascend Acoustics forum yesterday:

...last supply of parts are due here tomorrow morning and if it arrives early enough, production and shipping will start tomorrow.

Worst case, delivery is on Monday. I now predict that we will be fully caught up with ALL backorders within 2 weeks.

order processing / billing / invoicing etc. will begin tomorrow morning.

Hope this comes as good news

I've been tagging along this thread for quite some time after deciding I needed to give some Ascends a try. Hard to ignore every review saying nothing but good things. I'm not in the same boat as many of you waiting for 340SEs, but I did order some 170SEs on April 10th. I thought they'd be best just to "get my feet wet" with the Ascend sound. I fully anticpate upgrading to 340SEs across the front, and move the 170s to the back in the near future.

Anyway, just got a notice from UPS that they arrived today, and I'm going to pick them up tonight! I'm soooo pumped! Just wanted to share my excitement with everyone. You can be sure I'll be posting again in the next few days to give some impressions. That is if I can peel my ears away from these things! I hope my GF has some patience with me tonight, cuz it's gonna be a long one!

Congrats Jon.
Welcome to the 'Ascend Owners Group'.
I think you will be quite amazed by the sound of the Ascends. I was when I got mine, and continue to be.

Cheers

I was wondering if any of you guys that ordered SE's in late Feb. or early March have received word on when your SE's will ship? I got an e-mail response that my order from early March would be ready very soon (1 week?). It was vague, but at least it was positive.

I ordered the 340SE's for LCR, speaker stands, and I ordered the Hsu VTF2-MK2 Sub. I have since cancelled the sub order since the Hsu site shows the VTF2-MK2 as backordered. I e-mailed Ascend to see if they had sufficient quantities of the sub to fullfill my order. Unfortuneately they did not respond to my e-mail in a timely manner. The following day I ended up ordering a SVS PB12-NSD/V. It has the new NSD driver and I should get it in 7-10 days! Hopefully this will coincide with the Ascend speaker order! I was worried that I would get the speakers finally, but would have to wait for the sub. BTW, since the PB10 (in black) is backordered, SVS was kind enough to give me a 10% discount on the newly redesigned PB12-NSD/V !!

Darksmoke,....... In the reponse that came from Ascend here several post back, David indicated that once the parts arrived, they would be going into full production. So, It would seem to me that your wait should not be that much longer, since the parts arrived this past Friday. He indicated that backorders would be caught up in two weeks.........I believe is what he said.

Oh, and since you live in California, your shipping time should be much less than the time that it takes to ship mine to WV.

Amerikes, yeah I am hoping to get them before the second week in May. Luckily for me, the shipping time plays no consequence since I live about 20 minutes away from Ascend. I plan on picking my speakers up personally

I'm not bragging, I just am extremely anxious to get those bad boys set up! Doesn't hurt to cut the shipping cost down to a 40 minute drive (roundtrip) either!

I was seriously considering purchasing the Ascends. They have nice bundle deals and are seriously good-looking speakers.

But I started getting cold feet after reading this thread about all the shipping delays. By now they are probably out of it but still sounds like they're running behind.

pahc8d,

the demand for the new SE's overwhelmed them. I have heard nothing but great things about them. I am positive they are worth the wait. Give them a try I hear there is a two week wait on new orders. I think it is worth it. Just ask anyone here

pahc8d,

Worth the wait. I expect they'll catch up with the backorders and it'll be old news. I ordered mine back in December (25th on the wait list) and got mine in January. No looking back!

Where in the ATL are you?

Yeah, I've been looking at alot of other speakers since I ordered the Ascends. I'm thinking I may have to cancel my order and get something else.

Got it. I have the 340SEs across the front of my theater room if you wanted to demo them. I'm up in Acworth.
