Hi,

I've had my Energy c-r100 speakers and I like them but I'll be travelling to the U.S. soon and I was thinking of getting a pair of Veritas VS Surrounds to replace the c-r100s.

I only paid $60 for the c-r100 to use as a temporary solution until I finalized my decision.

Any opinions as to whether VS Surrounds are a good choice? Another speaker perhaps?

My question today is about surround speakers and whats best. I have read in here that some say the tweeter should be at ear level and some say a certain amount above ear level. Any suggestions on this would be great.

Also the type of speaker that is best suited for this combo RC-70 front RC lcr would it be another tower, bookshelf or what someone suggested using RC lcr for surronds. I never really thought about a bookshelf speaker since they are so small but I could be wrong about that as well. RC-70 to arrive on Tuesday,

Ive got some stuff

The new V-S surrounds will blow away those old C-R100s... much, much better speaker

I think part of it depends on how close/far the surround speakers will be to you and what type of speaker it will be. I have the CR-10 as surrounds and it aims slightly down as well as it's on the wall that my couch is backed up to so I place mine about 2 feet above my listening area and it's great!

You also have to take into consideration do you want more bass/fullness like a tower behind you too? Or would you prefer a more "invisible" speaker (one that you can hear but can't say, "Oh that sound is coming from right there" while pointing to the speaker.) like a bipole or dipole speaker?

For those looking into getting Energy speakers, or upgrading their current Energy setup, here are some reviews I've written that may help:http://www.tempestaudio.blogspot.com  (haven't updated in a while, but include Energy Take Classic 5.1, RC-10, CF-70, and CC-10)

As far as speaker placement, you'll be able to tell the best sound you can achieve by testing the different placements personally. For me I've found my sound is best when I have my RC-50s 2 1/2 feet to either side of the TV a foot and a half away from the wall and ever-so-slightly angled in.

Thanks. Even though I never really posted I was in here daily, as well as other speaker brands, reading everyone's opinions on speakers and what they liked and didn't and it really helped me out a lot.

I will try moving them around and see what I can come up with. I figured it was a matter of trial and error and depending on the room size. Anyways thanks again.

That's very interesting. One of the lurkers here (not sure why he hasn't come forward yet) needs a sub and has an opportunity -- a used S12.3 for $425. I guess from your impression, the price would be right. On paper it seems solid but I really don't know that sub and I can't tell if the best course of action would be to grab it or spend slightly more for a "entry level" 12" ID sub. At least it seems that it would certainly not be the worse way possible to spend that money.

A call is free and you have everything to gain at this point, I'd try if it was me.

Higher priced Blu Ray players should have better processors, build quality, faster load times, faster and reliable updaters, better upconversion of standard DVDs, WiFi and more. I have a pretty good LG from around 2008 and movies that say it may take a few minutes to load are usually loaded in about 15 seconds. The much cheaper and almost new Sony player that is in the basement always takes about four minutes to load everything and needs updating all the time before a movie can be watched. Needless to say the older LG is the preferred player by far.
Nice idea to use a power conditioner on your equipment. I have the 1700 as well. Do you notice a high pitched hum coming from yours when you put your ear close to it?

My sony loads up pretty quick, its a nice 3D capable one. I was more interested in higher quality picture/sound. I have my router right by the tv, so wifi isn't needed, my Sony is hard wired. I did notice the hum, but only when there is little to no draw on it. When the tv and receiver is on it goes away.

Pulled the trigger on 2 VS-Surrounds. Had a friend in the US call and try and talk them down since they were recently $150 ea. Got them for $190 a piece. He is going to ship them to me. I will probably move 2 of the Take LCR's to the bathroom and sit them on those nice little glass bases that come with them.

HT: Yamaha RX-V565 | 3 X Energy Take FPS, 2 X VS Surround, 2 X Take LCR | DIY Subs: SDX12 APR15 & TRIO12 Dual APR 12's | 47" LCD

Music: Yamaha RX-V863 | 2 X Energy RC-70 | MA RXw12 Sub

Bathroom: 2 X Energy Take LCR

Car: Sony Xplod HU, Xplod 6X9s, Kenwood 4"s, Alpine 12" Type-S, Rockford Amp,...

wow, had no idea these sub's were still even available, let alone for $239.00? I may just get one.

I'm using an original S8.3 for my living room system (Denon AVR-2112CI, Oppo BDP-93, RC-30's, RC-LCR, RC-R's), I paid retail for it back in like 2004 ($350.00 from "Good Guy's"). It really cranks for an 8 inch.

Cracks me up to hear all the stories about failing "blue LED's" (on Amazon.com reviews), that's rediculous. I believe this has been happening even back when they were first introduced. Although the blue LED has functioned just fine on my S8.3 (knock-on-wood), auto-power-ON function operates fine as well. I kind of like the blue LED for some reason

I'm thinking swapping out the S8.3 from the living room to my bedroom 2ch system (NAD C162 stereo pre-amp/C272 amp, wall-mounted Veritas V-Mini's), and use the S10.3 in the living room? hmmmm

Just so you know the s10.3 has been on sale constantly as of late for $200 at Newegg (probably mostly weekend sales as that seems to be the case with all their sale prices on things that I have paid attention to the last couple of years).

well one damaged top of the 70's. Looks like it was shipped that way since it was double boxed and the outside box has no damage but the actual speaker box has a hole in it right on the top and thats were the damage is to the top of the speaker.

Dam if I wanted damaged goods I would of bought the 2 RC-70's that were in Vanns clearance section for 310 a piece.

Ive got some stuff

Sucks, it's a big let-down when your stuff arrives busted-up. Call Vann's immediately and they will go out of their way to make it right--I had an amazing experience with them just the other day, when one of my 70s arrived damaged.

Yep one of mine was damaged when it arrived. Vanns was really good about it and all I had to do was put it back in the box. They had the UPS guy come pick it up from my house so it was pretty painless.

Just called a new one is on the way. Here is something else. Neither of the 70's came with the spikes or the rubber feet. Vanns checked to see what warehouse they shipped from thinking that they sent me damage/clearance but that was not the case, they came from a warehouse that ships new inventory so these would of came from Energy like this. Did you guys get all your feet with your 70's??

Checked the serial numbers on these 2 70's one got xxxxx390 and the other one was
xxxxx393. He said he would make sure since I was keeping the even number speaker that I would get an odd number. And hopefuly close to that same number to make sure it came from the same batch.

Ive got some stuff

They have been notorious lately for sending junk from their Salt Lake City warehouse, but for them to send this from their home location is pretty sad. Their QC at their warehouses seems to be really lacking lately....

Not directly related to energy speakers but I just ordered a 3311ci denon to power my fathers rc10 /lcr set up

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

I guess I got lucky, when I made my order for the 2 RC70s, LCR, and pair of RC10s, nothing came damaged and all the pieces and parts were there. Sorry to hear of your issues, but at least Vanns is making things right for everyone. You guys did get me curious about the S12.3 since I like my 10.3 so much, and no where seems to have one, not Amazon, not Ebay. I was pretty amazed about that.

I should mention that my one damaged RC-70 was the only damaged item I'd received from Vann's during a period of 15 months, during which time I took delivery on twelve different packages, all of them speakers, subwoofers, or receivers.

This is the 1st time I have recieved damaged goods from vanns and I have ordered a number of things from them. What I am concerned about even though vanns is sending me feet for the 70's my concern is that they were never there to begin with. Any feedback on this would be welcome

Well, normally the spike kits are in their own container taped on the inside of the grill cover box. Did the grill box and its plastic seem to be of the original seal or retaped/resealed in any way. With the damaged original box, damaged speaker and missing spike kits, it sure seems that these may have been returns...Did you get your port plugs?

That's about the difference I noticed when switching from the CC-10 to the RC-LCR. At some point I'm going to get the RC-70 towers, but in the mean time I love the 50s (and don't have money haha).

Shouldn't be too shocking, that sub has been out of production at least 3 years or more.
