Hello,

I currently own a set of RC-50s for my mains, RC-LCR as center channel and RC-Rs for the rears. I recently just purchased a set of RC-70s and RC-10s. I want to eventually own a single family detached home so that I can have my own dedicated theater room. My question is, should I use the RC-70s for the living room as a two channel system for parties and listening to music and keep the RC-50s as the mains for my theater setup or the other way around. Thanks.

You should definitely use the RC-70s for your 2 channel setup.
You most likely won't notice a difference in clarity for movies, although the 70s will play lower and you MIGHT notice it sounds bigger and plays lower if you are not using a sub, but I personally don't think that this is enough to put the RC-70s in a home theatre setup instead of a 2 channel music setup. Enjoy your RC collection! biggrin.gif

Definitely use those RC-70s for 2-channel. When I play 2 channel music through those speakers, it's pure sex. They sound incredible.

Thanks, guys, for the thumbs up with 70s for two channels. I was thinking the same thing. I have two eD 2-300 subs for home theater so I won't be missing much in the bass department =).

The woofers in my 2.4i is a 4DR//51913, but are the Z4DR woofers being sold on ebay the same thing or compatible? I am guessing not. Just wondering if they can be purchased anywhere other than directly from energy at $240.68 + tax & S&H.

This list has the part number for your 2.4i as 4DR//51913. See page 47
http://ndgservice.ca/data/pdf/energy_1.pdf

You didn't provide the 5 digit number for the woofers on ebay. I see 4 different ones.

I'm looking at getting a pair of Energy towers for music use only. They'll be paired with an old school (1995) Denon AVR 2500 for stereo listening. The three pairs that seem to be in my price range, although there is quite a difference among them, are: CF-70s ($500 pr open box from Vann's), V6.2s ($600 pr), and RC-70s (~$1000 pr). I'm pretty sure everyone will agree that the RC-70 is the best for audio quality, and that the v6.2 is pretty good too, although not a 3 way. I really haven't seen much said about the CF70s, and at that price, I feel like I shouldn't ignore them. Any thoughts or comparisons of the 3?

Definitely V6.2 over CF-70s. Much better build quality and drivers. They were just sale on for $299 each. Call Vanns and speak to a sales rep, they may be able to cut you the same deal.

RC-70s were $399ea earlier this week, call about that pricing too. Maybe you can get the pair for $800.

Just depends if you're wiling to spend the extra money on RC-70's vs V6.2. I think the RC-70s would be better but your mileage may vary.

To the naked eye it looks perfectly fine, but it gives off a slight and unwanted vibration/rattle that is quite noticeable on some frequencies. I examined it and could see nothing obvious just by looking at it. :-/

Thanks. Yes that is the correct model number as that is what I verified when i took the woofer out to examine it. I just wasnt sure if there was anywhere else that sold that exact part other than direct from energy or if a different part number would still work the same (ie the 4DR//51870R from the v2.3i as I thought both speakers used the same woofers).

Thanks. I figured the CFs were their bargain line; I've only ever seen/heard them at Best Buy/Magnolia. I assume I'd get noticeably better low end from the RC70s over the v6.2s. If I can find them for $800, I guess that's how I should go. If it's $600 vs. $1000, it's a tougher choice.

Wonder why you dont see the Z on your woofer. Did it rub off or something
FROM DYI AUDIO SITE:
Energy Veritas 2.4 or 2.4i Woofer Impedance?
Does anyone know the individual impedance for Energy Veritas 2.4 or 2.4i woofers? They are model 4DR51871 or Z4DR51871. Thank you!

This is in France. So with shipping. runs about 140.

Thanks. It didnt rub off because none of my woofers I checked have the Z. This guy is selling 3 different ones (different number after the Z4DR) so that is why was at a loss. Maybe the Z has something to do with it being in France. Anyway, it appears all 3 of the woofers he is selling are from the non "i series", which had the "frozen woofer" issues, so Im wondering if that means these would also have that possibility - i would think so.

Here is what I have found after comparing to the parts list
4dr//51869 - woofer for v2.0c (ebay)
4dr//51914 - woofer for v2.0ci

4dr//51868 - woofer for v2.1/v2.2/v2.0r
4dr//51911 - woofer for v2.2i/v2.0ri *Note - there's no v2.1 with "i series"

4dr//51870 - woofer for v2.3 (ebay)
4dr//51912 - woofer for v2.3i

4dr//51871 - woofer for v2.4 (ebay)
4dr//51913 - woofer for v2.4i

5dr//53106 - tweeter for v2.0c/v2.0ci
5dr//53107 - tweeter for v2.1/v2.0r/v2.0ri *Note - there's no v2.1 with "i series"
4dr//52030 - tweeter for v2.2/v2.2i/v2.3/v2.3i/v2.4/v2.4i

I just dont know if say the 4dr//51912 and 4dr//51913 are interchangeable since I thought the 2.3i and 2.4i used the same woofers

Unreal...UPS just came to my door to pick up the speaker and have it sent back to FL for inspection. I wasnt even notified of this. Long story short i told them I dont want to ship this thing and risk it getting damaged even more and that they should just come in and inspect it here (as they should so they know exactly what damage I am claiming and not risk additional damage on their additional shipment!! - where is the common sense?!). So she made a call and they will be coming next week. There was no way in hell I was going to send this thing with them again in the same packaging (original energy box) across country for something they can do right here in my house! Again, where is the common sense?! I better get the claim granted without any more hassle! grrrr im fired up!!

Do this: massage the woofer with your fingers not touching the dust cap, but at 12, 3, 6, and 9 and see if you feel resistance at all on that woofer. when it moves in and out. Thats what your music does too. just massages the woofer smile.gif
Energy makes their own woofers, so that why you have to pay the high price. Im going to be refoaming some Kappas in the future from like 95.

There is no foam to refoam.
zdoggz is having a mechanical problem, it is most likely a jumping the gap type of thing. The fix is an extra washer part inside from what I know. smile.gif

This woofer design that Energy used is susceptible to freezing. From what I know, it is a spacing problem that needs a minor tweak, but without it, bad things easily happen. It seems to be the only major design flaw that I know about in older Energy speakers. (I don't include the old 22's tweeters as a design flaw.)

Is the freezing issue still a concern with the i-series as well? I was under the impression that that was corrected. Do u think the tweak is easily doable w/o screwing the woofer up? I don't plan on doin anything until after the claim inspection, but I would like to save $260 if I can!!!

I am not positive, but I imagine that it would still be possible to have a frozen woofer on the "i" series. I have seen frozen woofers on other none Energy speakers. I'm sure it is much less frequent with the "i"s but it could probably still happen. Are you positive that they are the "i" speakers?
From what I understand, the tweak is easy if you know how to do it. Once a woofer is frozen though, you are probably in for a new woofer.

I'm positive it is the I series and I don't think it is "frozen" as it still operates but there is some unwanted/undesirable resonance/rattling that it gives off at certain times/frequencies. It stops as soon as I put my finger on it but comes right back when I let go....an extra washer or something makes sense as it seems something was set/knocked slightly off alignment....

It's hard to say without seeing and hearing it. I'm on my phone right now, so I may not be getting the full jest. I will check more into it when I'm near a computer that is easier and faster

Hello! I posted the following under the def tech thread and thought I should post it here as well.

Hello, new to this forum and need advice. I just purchased a yamaha rx-a820 receiver. I am now looking at speakers. I went to bestbuy and listened to, and am considering between, energy & def tech speakers. My room is a den, 13x14 with 8 ft ceiling. My viewing distance is about 10 ft from my tv. I am looking at the def tech 1000 center L&R fronts, 800 rears, and the 800 sub. The energy's are the cb10s front, cb5s rear, esw-c8 sub, and either the cc10 or 5 center. I like the sound of the def tech better, but the energy's do not sound that bad either & are a littler more affordable. I am trying to keep the cost at about $1,400 or less. I am open for suggestions as well, but am leaning toward the def tech I spelled out above. Thoughts? Thanks

I'm not sure if the prices still are good now, but lately...RC-10's $220/pr...RC-LCR $250...S10.3 sub $200.

That would make an exceptional 5.2 system for $1090 shipped!

I also found myself at Magnolia A/V wrestling with a decision between DefTech and Energy. I auditioned the two brands using different models several times over a two-week period before I made my choice and purchase. My preference and budget ended the debate by going with Energy over similarly-priced DefTechs. The model configuration for the Energy speakers I purchased are a bit different than what you indicated you're interested; I bought CC10 center, CB20 L&R fronts and CB5 for surrounds. My immediate upgrade plan is to expand to a 7.2 channel setup: planning on adding a pair of CB10s to perform the surround duties and moving the CB5s to work as surround rears.

Don't be in a rush to make your purchase. Continue to research the products that interest you and, by all means, take your own music with you to BB/Magnolia and spend a lot of time comparing bookshelf speakers with and without subwoofer assistance.

PM me if interested.

Reminder - Here is your chance to get a pair of RC-Rs at a good price. All reasonable offers will be considered.

I found this article that may be a solution to the vibrating woofer....

http://www.ehow.com/how_7346278_repair-vibration-woofer.html

"Inspect the woofer's speaker cone. Is there a visible tear? If so, it needs replaced. If not, put your hand around the ring of the woofer as if holding it to the speaker cabinet. Does this stop the rattle? If so, padding is needed between the woofer and the cabinet."

Hello,

This is my first post, I've started the process of redoing my home theater system since mine is almost a decade old. I've done a lot of research on the energy rc series but I'm really new at this. Based on my budget I started with the energy rc lcr and rc 10 for my center and fronts. I'm currently using an old Onkyo sr502 receiver and I definitely plan on getting a new AVR (probably the Denon 1712 or 2112i) I currently have a old onkyo 8" sub woofer (skw420) and some htib speakers. I'm just going to keep the old surrounds I have and those will be the last thing I change out. My question is I can only buy a receiver or sub woofer for now which one should I get first? I'm probably going to get a bic pl200 since I primarily use my system for movies and TV. I can't seem to make sense on which way to go because I need both due to the fact they are both so outdated lol ...

Right now:

AVR: onkyo sr502 (75watts per channel 6.1 receiver)
Center: RC- LCR (coming in this week)
Fronts: RC-10 (coming in this week)
Sub: Onkyo skw420 (old 8 inch woofer 150 watts no crossover settings sub no nothing lol)
surrounds: Onkyo: skr 425

This was my 1st AVR I bought when I was 21 so I know its a bad one lol just looking for some advice I would really appreciate it!

Oh room size is : 17X14x8 It's my front room that is closed off expect the door way that leads into the kitchen and hallways.

I bought a pair of those on Craigslist earlier this year, they're nice sounding speakers. They have a 6.25" woofer and .75" tweeter.

$100 is a fair price but see if you can knock off $10 or $20. Ya never know.

Here is a picture of a pair on a Canadian site. They didn't have any with the grilles on.
