haha you are following the same footsteps I've did... I had the same exact subwoofer with my RCs, and it did a more than ok job. Of course you can do better but it's not a ****ty sub by any means. Pretty sure you'll love the pairing!

speaker stands

i had picked up 3 LCRs for my stage a while back and was having a hard time finding a stand to put the L and R on. all of the stands i saw had bases which were too small for me feeling comfortable putting the speaker on. so, i had to DIY some stands. i picked up some C-STM-1 energy stands (originally produced for the C series speakers i believe). these came with speaker bases that were too small (6" x 6"), but i liked that the floor base was somewhat wide and the overall stand wasn't nasty looking. i had some speaker bases made up to size and they were powdercoated black. turned out well i think.

LCR:

i had some made for my RC-10s too:

an idea of what the speaker base ended up looking like (this is the RC-10 stand):

the speaker bases were made of aluminum with the edges on the side being bent up for a little speaker stablilty

Question on crossover.

What's the recommended crossover for:

Rc-70 (or run full range?)
Rc-lcr
Rc-10

For reference I'm pairing them with an outlaw ultra x12 with a denon x5200

When I ran Audyssey with my Onkyo TX-NR709, my crossovers were set to 40/50/50 for my room.

Currently evaluating whether or not I'd like to keep it to what Audyssey set or 80hz all around.

My initial thoughts are that 80hz is better all around, but I'm going to experiment with 60hz for the RC-70s.

I think it'll take a bit of experimentation for your own room.

Stands

Hi thesharkman,

Really like these speaker stands. I found the C-STM-1 stands online, but how do you make the pedestals to fit?

I'm going to try and DIY some myself for my RC-10's, if it's not too hard...

Thanks!

What did the Audyssey xt32 results say?

With that sub I'd set all speakers to small and then set the RC-70's at 60hz and the LCR and RC-10 at 80hz. No reason to run any of those speakers at full range when you have a very capable sub like that.

Looking to add rear surrounds. My system is currently RC-70 fronts, LCR, and CR-10 side surrounds. Would there be a preference for using either a set of Encore 2 satellites or a pair of Take 2 speakers (original, not Take 2.2 or Classic)? They will be mounted from the ceiling 6-8ft behind the MLP. I already have a full Encore 5.1 set that is sitting in storage and I don't mind breaking it up. Eventually I'll run 7.1.4 with some variety of in-ceiling speakers.

I'd try to snatch a pair of RC-10s for side surrounds and move the cr-10 at the back... I don't think adding a third timbre to the set would be beneficial. It might not be critical, but I doubt it would mitigate the benefits of adding another set of channels...

Agree, but if those are your choices the Encores are clearly a better speaker than the old Takes. Larger speaker, bigger woofer.

Not realistically an option although I have 2 sets of RC-10s in storage as well.

Just a classified FYI. I know often times it is hard to find a couple of the speakers I have just listed in the classifieds. I have just listed 3 RC-LCR's and 2 CR-1 Bipole surrounds.

the speaker bases are aluminum that were cut and then folded on the sides to allow for the width of the speakers. the original speaker base plates were then put on top and in the middle of the newly fabricated plates so that they could be drilled out to the exact center. finally, they were powder coated a matte black. FYI, the stock screws work just fine even though the new plates are 2-2.5 times thicker than the originals.

good luck!

Hi guys. What is a fair price for a pair of black Veritas 2.3i's? Do you think they would be a substantial upgrade from my RC-70's? And what about replacement parts? Thanks for any and all help. PV

As an upgrade, only your ears can tell you that. I prefer the Veritas sound over the RCs. In fact I use V2.2i's over my RC70s. As far as replacement parts go, used is as good as it gets unless you stumble on new. I actually found a new woofer recently. But the tower woofers come up now and then.

Depends on location for the 2.3i.

There's a pair on ebay for $795 and a pair on my local craigislist for $1200.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Energy-Verit...-/231823776013

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/5429132493.html

You're in NYC so no telling what they'll cost.

They're definitely better than the RC-70 but parts will be hard to find since they've been around 12 years and the non "i" series longer than that. I had a chance to grab a pair for $699 3 years ago and kind of regret it. Instead I bought the RC-70's probably because they were new with 5 year warranty and would have gotten nothing with the 2.3i. I know the woofers in some the Veritas line would lock up and need to be replaced and I didn't want to deal with that if it did happen.

If everything checks out then it would be a good speaker to have. If you do get them these 2.1's might be a good pickup to accompany the 2.3i.

I would say $500-700 is a fair price for a pair depending on condition. Maybe even a bit more if they are mint and certifiable "i" models.

I also prefer the Veritas sound quality, they are more transparent and neutral than the RC's, even more detailed and refined without sounding fatiguing.

Thanks for your input. I should be able to audition them on friday. His asking price is reasonable. I like the RC-70's, but more transparency, detail, and refinement...sounds good to me.

I'll say that I haven't compared the tower versions, but when I had the RC-10's next to the V2.1's (both 2-way bookshelf speakers) I was suprised at how much more I liked the Veritas. They basically gave me everything I loved about the RC's but also fixed everything I didn't like.

Those little V2.1 bookshelves are pretty amazing. I have bought two pairs now. Wish they were the V2.2i's but still a great little bookshelf.
Someday a pair of towers will slide into my collection! !!

Unfortunately, Cherry Hill, NJ, down by Philly, is a little too far. Fortunately, I was able to drive up to CT, thru a snowstorm, to score a pair of 2.3i's. My face hurts because I've been smiling for the past 3 hrs.
