I've been breaking in my new C-100s all day. They must have hit somewhere around 30 hours when I was gone. That has to be a real sweet spot for break in. I just listened to my audition CD again, and they have really mellowed out. Most of the noticeable harshness in the high end has disappeared, and they are much smoother overall.

I was wondering what you guys have experienced in terms of break in for your C-100s. As much as I liked them before, they have started to show what they are really capable of as time sandpapers off some of the rough edges. I expected this, but it's really impressive nonetheless.

If anyone sees these little guys in a similar sale again, please post. I have a great idea for stocking stuffers for friends come next Christmas. And I'll really want my folks to have a set of these, too. I won't be able to give mine up, though. I'll have to find a few more.

vanns still has the c-100s for $120/pr.

Woot.com had them for $79 again last week, keep checking their site. Maybe it'll happen again in another month.

question on the surround sound. when i switch from movie to music settings (same volume) on my remote control the music is MUCH louder for some reason. why is this? i mean i know it's a difference in sound because of the surround sound but i'm thinking i just don't have it set up right.

Well... I'm one of those who thinks that there is no such thing as a break-in. Every speaker I owned in my live, the only thing that happened is my ears getting accustomed (sp?) to the sound. Proof: after I've bought my RCs, it took some days for my ears to get used the "energy" sound. but then, a whole year after, I moved into an apartment. They sounded totally different. Kinda like a "new sound". But nothing changed really (speaker-wise that is). Only something new for my brain to work with (due to new room's acoustics). I found that they really sounded harsh with all that ceramic tiles compared to hard wood and carpet. Now it's been 6 months in my new place and I'm happy the way they sound... never changed a thing... never ran audissey or such...

but of course YOU PEOPLE (haha) can think whatever you want.... as long as you enjoy your speakers!

Sorry, but I can't agree with you on that one. My listening environment has not changed one iota since I got the C-100s a few days ago. I picked up 3 pairs in that Woot! deal last week. They got here in a couple of days and I hooked them up in my spare bedroom. I listened to my audition CD when they had just a few hours on them. The high end was definitely harsher than it is now, and they sound a lot more mellow after 30 or so hours.

I've used many of these same music tracks for years to audition speakers, in showrooms, at my house, and at friends' houses. I've had lots of before and after playback in the last 3 days to compare and these speakers definitely sound different than they did when I got them.

That's just my opinion, of course. I don't have any measurable statistics to quote, but I trust my ears.

Thanks, I do not have the 7.1 receiver yet, but I am working on the TV stand this week. I have to move everything out (2ch Receiver, DVD, etc)and TV off. Drilling some holes for 120mm fans, and some wire guides for neatness. While everything is out I can easily get to the back of the TV area to drill the hole for the TV strap, and it is easier to do now with the TV off. I will drill one more hole for the TV strap 1 inch further for a total distance of 2" clearance. That should be adequate, and I was just wanting do know if everyone butts the back of the center channel right to the front of the TV, thanks!

Can anyone recommend a good and not too terribly expensive set of stands to use with the C-50s? I'm having a horrible time finding something. I may go with a bookcase mount in the front (to have some movie storage space worked into the mix), but I still will need stands for the surrounds.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Never heard of Energy. They popped up on my screen from a CNET review. Started doing research & decided I was going to upgrade my 6 year old JBL's maybe next year to these Energy Take Classic. (I had just bought a 61" LED DLB). Then a few days ago I walked in the going out of business Circuit City & saw 5 boxes of Energy Take Classic for $299. (Newport News VA still had 4 boxes left yesterday) Apparently no one else has heard of them either. No one was paying them no mind. I picked up a box & took them home. The sound is AWESOME! I'm shocked what I have been missing. I hear ALL the speakers from my chair now. Everything is clear sounding. My blue-rays & DVD's bounce around & fill my livingroom up. I put in Master & Commander & people just smile at the sound. I see on the net you can get them for $399. I paid that much for the JBL's. GO GET THE SPEAKERS! I love movies & TV. I now have the perfect set up. Now when I'm at work I miss my speakers & TV.

I have c-50s on stands that i had for satallite speakers. All that i had to change was the angle bracket that holds the speaker. I went to menards an picked up some 8 inch L brackets and drilled new holes in them and attached it to the stands. Works great and looks good too!

I was considering the Energy 5.0 system from WWStereo, but I think I have changed my mind and would like to put together a 5.0 system consisting of C-300s for the fronts, C-C100 for the center and C-100s for the rears.

My question is where are people getting their C-100s from. I am having a difficult time finding a good place to get them.

Thanks

wwstereo has a setup like you want for 450, you just need to upgrade the center channel from c-c50 to c-c100 and i think you will still be cheaper than buying your speakers seperate.

I run the Take LCR for my 7.1 rears, why dont more people run those? I have them mounted on the ceiling as my rear wall is to far back to wall mount something. But hardly anyone here runs the take series. Why is that? I can see why the C-series are a little more popular due to the larger woofer, but arent the Take series, mainly the Take LCR a bit better for surrounds becuase of mounting options and actual speaker arrangment? Or is it a cost effective issue that puts people to C-series? Its hard to tell where on the scale of quality each one is becuase they are vastly different designs.

On wwstereo, I believe you can purchase the c-300s for the same prices as it would be to piece it together yourself.

Not really, he's looking for C-100s for surround speakers, not C-R100s. Plus he'd still have to buy the bigger C-C100 center.

If he buys the speakers he wants seperately, his total cost will be $483 shipped. By purchasing the Energy ENERGYS53C package he'd still have to buy the 3 speakers he really wants and sell the others. That wouldn't be cheaper and its a hassle.

What wall mounts are you using for the C-50's? They look like they're nice and snug to the wall. I'm looking for some just like those, I don't want ones the protrude to far.

I am going to pick the c-300s and the c -c100 center. I would like to keep my Infinity Primus bookshelfs to use as surrounds. Would it sound ok, or should I just pick up a pair of energy bookshelfs?

Here are my C-100's. The C-C100 is hopefully on its way, and that will sit where the center channel is now. Surrounds are several feet behind couch. I'm VERY pleased so far. Once I got the stands the 2 fronts sounded amazing, great level/plane for sound-field! The sound is neutral and most important - non-fatiguing!

But either way, this is a community, and I feel like I owed it to you guys to let you know about it as soon as I found it as payback for all of the help/advice you guys have given me in return

I got the C-300 5.0 package with the C-C50 and C-50 surrounds from wwstereo for $299 shipped using the live.com 25% cashback on eBay a few nights ago, and then I got the C-C100 from buy.com for $113. Also ordered an eD A3-300 subwoofer for $350.

My total setup looks like it will come out to be $763 shipped! Thats not bad at all, considering the sub was almost HALF of that. I am planning on using the C-C50 center channel as my rear speaker for a 6.1 setup, if it sounds good. If not, it will be going on eBay!

Since Afrogt brought it up, just how necessary is HDMI in a receiver? My TV and most TV's today come with multiple HDMI ports built in. Mine has 3 and that seems to be normal today. I'm guessing this is one of the big deciding points for me when I start my receiver shopping? Of course maybe it's a moot point, can you even buy a decent receiver that doesn't have HDMI? Personally I don't have it now and I don't miss it at all. All my sources now are HD to begin with ( the exception would be the normal SD cable channels that I rarely watch anymore). My DISH receiver is all HD my OPPO DVD player does it's own up conversion. So can someone please explain to me why I need it in the receiver?

Also does anyone know if they make a bracket so you can mount your center on top of your flat screen, or is that a bad idea with a speaker like the C-C100 with the vibration on a LCD monitor? Reason I'm asking is that the C-C100 because of it's size is going to be problematic with placing it in front of the TV due to it's size. So far I haven't picked out a stand for the TV yet so I have some flexibility here. Wall mounting isn't an option for me but a stand with the mount built in might be. I think I still would prefer the TV sitting on a stand rather then mounted to one. I was originally going to buy the C-C50 and this wasn't an issue. But assuming the BUY.com deal goes through (Mine hasn't shipped either) it has now become one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
