Not really since they frequently go on sale for $120-$150.

yes it's a good deal but this is even better if you can stretch a bit and you want big bad tower speakers:

http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/ele/1632332656.html

older speakers (about 10 yrs old) but much higher quality ($1500 msrp). I bet you can get that price down a bit too as he seems desperate...

Still looking for a RC mini center or RC-LCR in cherry but may have to go for the RC mini center in rosenut because the other two speakers in cherry seem non existent.

Slightly late, but.... I set everything up, waiting for delivery of an LED tv, but here are pictures with the current small TV. They do show the color (black on RC-10's, rosenut on the RC-mini CC).

The pictures are taken with a cell phone camera, but they do show the colors well.

The colors go really well, I think, but the real item here is how it sounds. I've put it through the paces. with blurays (Wizard of Oz, Fifth Element, We were soldiers...), TV (movies and broadcast) and now listening to the "Love" Beatles DVD-A on my Oppo BDP-83, and I am seriously impressed.

You may notice the ESW-V8 in the corner, all of which is performing great for my space. I will put the RC-10's on stands and spread them out a bit, along with the sub, but for now, they are clustered and sound great.

Your speakers look like they're pretty close to the wall in those pics. You seem to have room so you might want to try moving them forward a bit to give them some breathing room.

Glad you're enjoying it! You'll probably want to move the center speaker to the very front edge of that tv stand as well. You're getting a lot of early sound deflection. Your dialogue will definitely clear up once you've done that. Show us pics once you're done!

You're right, they will wind up on stands ASAP. They have about 6 inches clearance right now (the whole stand is offset).

Will do. The incoming TV will change much, but you're right on the center.

Another question on energy speakers....

I have a pair of RC 10s that I just bought and am loving. I plan to use them for my front L & R of my HT set up. I'm wondering what would match better for the surround speakers: RC minis or CB10s. The price is currently a wash, so I am curious which one would be better in the opinion of the wise ones who monitor this tread.

Also is there a suggestion for which speakers stands would work for the RC 10s? And last but not least, I will be wall mounting the surrounds, so how about a tip on good wall mounts?

Thanks.

If you decide on the rc-mini's (which I use) they come with a wall mount. They work really well, so no need to buy one there. I'd recommend the minis, I don't know the CB10s

I have RC-10's as my L/R and my surrounds, so I looked for speaker stands for a bit as well. I ended up building my own because I couldn't find anything that would be the exact height that I wanted for these four speakers. I used this page as a basic guide for the stands.

http://onefallinghope.com/2009/02/03/diy-speaker-stands

I have the Black RC-10's, and painted the MDF and PVC that I used for these stands in black and it ended up looking pretty sharp. I ended up spending about $50 on all the supplies for the four stands (I had MDF laying around to use), so it was a bit cheaper than commercial stands, plus I was able to get the exact height that I wanted.

FWIW, it may be an option if you can't find stands that fit your height requirements..

I need help. I am a noob and doesnt really know much about setting up a HT. I was locked on polk audio for a while but changed my mind and really want to get energy speakers instead. I was looking at the energy take FPS flat panel as my fronts and center. will this be a good set up or should I go to a different route. I want to have a 5.1 system. I greatly appreciate any help on what to get and where to get it.

PS. I can get the FPS for 129 each. Thanks again.

Do you think Vanns will drop the price on the RC-10's? I want to purchase them and mate them with my C-C100 but not sure if I should wait

What would you pick for your surround? Is RC-10 really good for fronts?

They can be used for fronts and surrounds. I use 5 in my bedroom system, along with an Orb 8" sub. It's a killer small room system, but the RC-10s can actually fill a much larger space with clean, loud sound.

I would replace my C-300's with the RC-10's. The rest of my speakers are C-C100, C-R100. Subs are a SVS PC12-NSD and an A2-300.

What do you guys think of this set-up? 2 CF30 front speakers, the CC10 for the center, 2 CB10's for surrounds with ESWM6 woofer for $1080?

Also, anybody have any info if the ENERGY Take FPS Flat Panel Loudspeaker good? and what kind of set-up?

everything is great about that setup except the subwoofer, get it 5.0 without the sub and buy a REAL sub not a puny little micro sub. The M6/M8 subs are intended to be decent for a tiny little box, but they cannot compete with a full-sized sub for HT. That CF30 based setup will be MUCH MUCH better than the Take FPS.

if you search this thread for "FPS" you will find many comments. the "Search this Thread" tool is at the upper right, under the page numbers.

I live in mission hills.

Sub's cannot be suggested without (1) your budget, (2) your room size, and (3) your listening habits (movies vs music). are you trying to rock the house or do you live in an apartment where you can't go nuts?

if you are on a budget there are some good deals on local used stuff.

this is a great starter setup that the guy would probably sell for a decent price:
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ele/1639708921.html

these are killer floorstanders, they are the predecessor to RC's line (approx. equal to RC-50): http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ele/1632180213.html

this is a nice deal but a little higher end: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ele/1638891356.html

Thanks. I am interested on the first and the second one but I do not know how much I will offer. As far as the sub, we just moved in to a house and we both love watching movies and listening to music, and also a lil bit of karaoke/videoke. I really appreciate your help. Thanks.

finally completed my replacement of Infinitis over to Energys:

Already had RC-minis for my backs, and RC-10s for my front L/R, new additions are the RC-10s for sides L/R (I have 7.1 setup) and an RC-LCR for the Center.

ran my Onkyo Audyssey set up, and was playing through some favorites this morning...quite a bit richer, but not too bright; quite a bit fuller but not to boomy.

Glad my changeover is complete, ready to tweak and tune the little stuff.

fridgeja, i have a similar setup to you so I thought I would share my opinion on subs with a $300 budget which was similar to mine. I have CF-30 L/R with a CC-10 center and a Denon 790 AVR. I am sticking with a 3.1 setup for now. Anyway, based on research and other recommendations for subs I went with a BIC PL-200 sub. It can be had from sound_distrbutors on their eBay store or their website for $270-$280 with free shipping by using the 'make an offer' button.

If you can stretch your budget a bit and dont mind the wait, many people also recommend the eD a2-300 which goes for around $350. I didnt want to go above $300 and found the BIC as a good sub for my setup. Cant give you any feedback since the sub is still on its way, but I wanted to share my research on the same topic.

im no sound expert so dont take my words as doctrine, but i figured any guidance can help. if batpig can give you a better recommendation, i would listen to him, his advice always seems to work out great.

My Setup:
Samsung LN46C630
Denon 790 AVR
Energy CF-30 Tower L/R Speakers
Energy CC-10 Center Channel Speaker
BIC PL-200 Subwoofer
Panasonic BD-60 Blu Ray Player

if you can stretch a bit and really want to rock the new house, this is an awesome sub up in Carlsbad (although I may try to bargain a bit): http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ele/1631952935.html

That SVS sub is a BEAST and competitive with any sub-$600 offering. With a sub that nice you could save a little cash and get nice bookshelf speakers instead of towers since the sub would take care of all the low end. That would be a sub that you could grow with as you upgrade your speakers.

Otherwise, the best subs in that price range are the $200 options (BIC H-100, F12, or PA-120) or stepping up a bit to the $350-ish options like eD A2-300 (mentioned above) or the HSU STF-2.

If you just want a nice budget starter package the other listing with the A3+2 + RVS + XL12 sub is probably worth about $450-500, they are all about 10 yrs old or so but very nice speakers at the time. The XL12 sub is probably comparable to the $200 12" options listed above (BIC H-100 etc).

Thanks bearcat and batpig.. So is $300 a fair price for this sub in carlsbad? Also if ever I got this sub, what will be a good option for the bookshelf speakers? Thanks again and excuse me for all these questions I ask. Thanks again.

$300 is a GREAT price! Too bad he's selling it for $400

That sub costs well over $500 with shipping, so $400 is a fair price if it's truly brand new. http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm

Like I said, that sub would be a nice investment that you could grow with as you get better speakers in the future. The choice of the sub doesn't necessarily impact the choice of the other speakers, it's not like there are some speakers that will work good and some that won't. A good sub is a good sub, regardless of your other speakers.
