A couple months ago after listening to different setups i bought the monitor audio silver 8 in combination with the rotel RA-12.

I am happy with it, however i feel like sometimes it is missing something.

I use the speakers allround, mostly music but i also use them for gaming and watching movies. Especialy in games where you fire weapons it seem to miss a punch the in you face shooting sound, it is kinda difficult describe it but it misses the life sound and the sounds sounds a but like it is in the backround. I tested the same games with headphones and a different speaker setup and then the in your face sound is back and more notable.

The same goes for hardstyle music, it misses the live feeling the fast punches of short bass don't come out so good. it sounds a bit like it is a bit on the background.

The music like john mayer, Ben howard and the into the wild sound track for eddie veder sounds absolutely amazing and very live and detailed, you can hear every instrument very clear and the sounds is very good balanced. If you close you eyes i would swear there is a concert in my living room.

I is just that the difference is so big between the different kinds of sounds, dont get me wrong the games still sounds ok, but i expect a bit more from 1800 euro per pair speakers.

My main question is could this be the amp. In the manual they say monitor audio recommend at least 80 watt amps.

The specs of the rotel are 60 watt pr channel. Still the salesman recommend me this and like i said the more relax music sounds absolutely amazing. i pasted some of the rotel specs below.

What are the experiences do owners of monitor audio speakers in this threat, and what do you guys think would a more powerfull amp make a big difference in the compartment of shooting and hardstyle audio.

If any of you guys have questions about how things sound or want to know anything else about the setup feel free to ask and i will do my best to share my experiences.

Continuous Power Output (20-20 kHz, < 0.03%, 8 ohms) 60 watts/ch (RA-12) Total Harmonic Distortion (20Hz-20kHz) < 0.03% at rated power, 1/2 power or 1 watt Intermodulation

Distortion (60 Hz : 7 kHz, 4:1) < 0.03% at rated power, 1/2 power or 1 watt Frequency Response Phone input 20Hz-15kHz, ±0.3dB Line Level Inputs 10Hz-100kHz, ±1dB Damping Factor (20-20,000 Hz, 8 ohms)

I have the 8's older brother, the rx8. Specs are basically the same. What is the rotel rated at for 4ohm? It should still have plenty of power for them since you'll normally only be using a few watts unless you're playing them really loud. I believe the power demands double for every 3db volume increase. It's possible you could be running out of power a very high volumes, but my 8ohm avr played them fine for a while until it went into thermal protection mode and shut off, but it's not made for 4ohm speakers.

Have you tried just turning the bass up?

Need Help: Monitor Audio silver 10 or GX200 or GX300

So going to upgrade from my BX5 speakers. I am considering the Monitor Audio RX10 or perhaps the gold series, the GX200 or GX300. This will be an entirely a 2.1 or even 2.0 setup. I am wondering if there is such a huge difference between the GX and silver series and if it justifies the price. I plan to hear them, but I really want to get other people's opinions, especially those who own Monitor Audio.

Power will not be an issue as I will be powering them using a McIntosh.

Also I have no interest in considering other speakers. I want to stay with Monitor Audio.

Anyone who had both or has silver or gold series, especially the silver 10 or GX200 or GX300 can I get your opinions?

I will be using these for mostly music and movies occasionally. Thanks for the input in advance.

I can't give you a personal account but going from the bronze to the silver is an extremely expensive incremental increase. Wouldn't you rather get the golds and legitimately say "I made a 10 year+ investment". There is no point in going to the silvers now if you are going to upgrade again in the short term.

Besides that numerous places have mentioned problematic crossovers on the silver series speakers.

Okay, I was leaning that way anyway, but crossover issues seals the deal. Trying to decide between GX200 and GX300 now.

Here is one article talking about the crossovers http://www.audioholics.com/tower-spe...-silver-lineup

I am going to get the gold series as well. It is just taking longer than expected to get up to budget.

It specificallt mentions both surrounds and the centre but I think it applies to the whole range.

I have Monitor Audio Silver Series 9i speakers which I love, currently been driven by a Harman Kardon AVR-630. Would a Yamaha RX-V675 or RX-V677 sound as good (crisp, clear, being able to detect instruments in music) and be able to drive the Monitor Audio speakers like the Harman Kardon?

It's a small room, about 16 x 22 (bedroom), but I will be moving in about a year, so I do plan to get a larger place around then, either that or put them in the living room. I do want to future proof my purchase.

Now the question comes to color. Can't justify ebony, as much as I want to (1k for a color option, not happening unless it plays a role on the sound.)

So between piano black lacquer and bubinga real wood veneer.

I'd go with the gx300. It should do well in that room and a larger one. I vote bubinga cuz I think it's their best looking finish IMO.

I would not be too quick to remove the Silver 10s from consideration. I have been listening to them for about 9 months now. I upgarded from the MA RS6s. MA Silver 10s are an excellent speaker. The professional reviews for the entire Silver line have been positive. Moreover, there is a short review on the Silver 10s in Absolute Sound in the December issue. The cross over issue may be an isolated occurrence and not indicative of the Silvers as a whole. To be sure, I have not read anything on it.

few qestions

Hi there!

Recently bought me a pair of MA Bronze BX2s paired up with Pioneer VSX-323 AVR, what I would like to know is:

1) My AVR has lowest Xover setting at 50Hz, it's either that or to set the BX2's as LARGE meaning full range signal goes to them, what should i set?? I am afraid of low freq driver damage if set to "large" so i use them as small with 50Hz+ freq but that cuts off some of sounds they CAN produce... I use them for music only. Any thoughts?

2) How much should i tighten the bolt of mid/bass driver (the one on the back) ??

3) I have a feeling that my R speaker reproduces a little less bass than the L one. Could this be fixed with previously mentioned screw adjustment, or is it maybe that it's not broken in yet, or a matter of placement???

4) Any thoughts on placement?? They are on stands, ear height, room is 4x4m. Distance? Angle? Facing?

Thanks!

True. Alternatively I can wait 8-12 months and get the PL200 instead.

Nice. So what's happening in the next 8-12mo, just saving up money or are they talking a price drop?

What amplifiers does everyone use with the Gold or Platinum? I have a McIntosh 8207, (never used) but thinking of selling it for a dedicated 2.1 amp. Possibly another McIntosh, or maybe I'll keep what I have.

Considering going from my polls and upgrading for quality>quantity to monitor audio or maybe klipsch.
I have found monitor audio silver 10i center, and both 8i and 9i towers locally.
How good are these and what is fair value?
Also how would these stack up to Polk rti or klipsch rfs?
Thanks a lot!!!

the MC8207 is a killer amp, especially for multi-channel. I'd be happy with it.

I'm using Parasound Halo A51 (5 X 250W) with Gold GX100 fronts, GXC350 center, GSFX rears. Still setting things up.

I know it's a killer amp. But I do not plan to do more than 2.1. SO seems a little bit of a waste for me if I only use 2 channels.

I have a Sunfire Cinema Grand 200x5 amplifier on my GX300 Front&Rear plus GXC350 Center 5.1 setup. Works fantastic! These speakers can definitely take the power.

yeah, I'd still use it for 2ch.

Otherwise you can trade me for my NAD C272 2-chan amp (150W X 2), very nice warm sound.

MC501's on my PL200, PLC150, PL300, PL350 speakers.
MC402's on my PL Inwalls speakers.
MC252's on my PL100 speakers.

I tried the PL300 speakers on the MC252 and they were under powered. The PL200 speakers were fine.

Does that mean the mc8207 (200wpc) will be insufficient for the pl200? Found a 7 month old set for 5k plus shipping.

The PL200 speakers are much easier to drive. You should be fine. More power is always better. You can upgrade to MC452's or MC601's later.

Okay that's good to know. I'll save up for Pl200. For now I have my BX5s which don't compare to the PL200s, but are no slouches either.

I was tempted to get the GX300, but if I am spending that much might as well go all the way and call it done.
