Not particularly.

This is mainly because it gives quite a lot of low end .
Good but not more than some others of similar size.

It is also claimed that silver 8 is recommended mostly to about 30m2 or larger rooms.
It did fine in my 25m2 room.

So maybe someone who has had them can say whether it is true or not.

Still love my RX6, a bit bright at times but phenomenal with reference material. I cant believe I am looking at the gold line now *looks at wallet*. Any thoughts on GX200 vs PL200, improvement over RX6? TIA

My friend will upgrade his RX6 to the new Gold 300 -no more GX- next month, so I can give some feedback later.

Well, I must admit that I might have made a wrong assumption. I read comments about the direct predecessor of Silver 8. It was model RX8 which was characterised as bass heavy and not for smaller rooms. I thought that Silver 8 was quite similar in this aspect. I don't know but maybe it was because RX8 had only one rear bass port. Silver 8 has two - maybe it allows for better bass control?

Do You think Silver 8 would be appropriate for rooms 18-20m2?
Would You consider smaller soundstage and spatality as the only con in Silver 8?
How would You compare these two factors in reference to Focal Aria 936?
I will be very grateful for your answer.

I have no aquaintance with the Aria 936 and most of what I have to say about the S8 is here along with measurements: http://www.stereophile.com/content/m...-8-loudspeaker

Thanks for the info. However it sounds really stupid. Why would they use better filters in the 200 compared to the 300 ?

so it is all come to crossover-network if it is the same or better and I believe the new gold is a monster .

Nope. I am considering them for the 2nd system but I have not pulled the trigger.

The B&W is in my apartment in NYC and the other system is in my house in CT. One is more elaborate and expensive than the other and, by design, I do not choose the same brand of equipment for the two systems, except for the Oppos.

Makes sense to me. So what other three way towers in the $2k range are you considering?

The silver 10s are crisp and clean with smooth bass and punchy midbass. They easily fill 24x24x9ft room. IMO they are too much speaker for rooms half the size.

The Silver 10s, 8s and all the rest of the line are exceptionally speakers which has gotten great reviews. Also, this is the 4th or 5th generation of the line. Meaning that, MA continues to make improvements with each new release. There is no buyers remorse with MA Silvers. I replaced my RS6s with the 10s. I am very please with them. The only thing I would criticize is that they are nothing special to look at-not a lot of personality in that regard.

Can someone explain how the Gold 350 centre is the same weight as the Gold 100, when the cabinet is about 60% bigger, and it has an addition 6.5" driver and a midrange driver which the Gold 100 lacks.

9.9kg each...I don't get it. Small centre speakers from other manufacturers weight more, like the Paradigm monitor centre 3, 25% heavier and 50% smaller.

Somebody asked the same question here a few months ago. The answer is that they don't weigh the same. It's a mistake in their brochures/website/etc.

For every new thing I learn, I forget two things I used to know.

Thanks for the response, I thought that must be the case, being actly 9.9kg a piece seemed weird.

They made the same mistake in both the old and new gold series specs, haha.

Amplifier Advice for Monitor Audio Silver 10s? My system right now will consist of a MA CP In Wall Center and Surrounds and Silver 10s for front channel speakers. I have a Yamaha RX-A840 receiver to power the system, but I'm thinking of getting an external amp to power the Silver 10s or possibly the front 3.

I'm thinking of the :
  • Emotiva UPA-200 $299 (200 Watts @ 4 Ohms)
  • 2X Emotiva XPA-100 2X $399 (400W @ 4 Ohms)
  • XPA-3 $799 (330W @ 4 Ohms into 3 channels)

Does anyone own that Silver 10s that would like to comment on how much power is needed to drive them well. I know the MA spec say 80W-200W recommended power, because of that I'm leaning to using the UPA-200.

The upa-200 works great on my rx8s. You only use a handfull of watts most of the time anyway, especially if crossing to a sub.

I am using a Parasound A-21 2 Channel amp with my AVR (Yamaha RX-V1030) as a pre-amp. Now, truth in advertising, I have been in touch with a dealer who sells the French made, Triangle Signature Delta speakers. They are nearly $8K pair. The reviews on them, which are many, are all good. I haven't made any final decisions yet. But they are on my radar screen as the next step in the evolution of my audio system. I am also looking one or two other brands at or near that same price range. Somehow I need to tell the kids that there will be no inheritance for them. :-)
