Hello;

New to this group but not to audio! Picked up a 10 year old Monitor Audio Silver RS6 , RSLCR system and have been really happy with it. Amazing how a system even this old can sound. This has renewed my passion for hove audio that was on the sideline for 28 years while in the live sound area . Now eyeing the PL line......

Welcome!

I would say those speakers are around 7-8 years old. I'm still enjoying my Gold GS speakers of the same generation that I bought new in 2009 and they are not being replaced anytime soon. Actually I'm designing my new HT around them so they will remain as is until the day they fall off the walls.

Agreed, I picked up my RS6 & RS LCR new in Jan of 2008. I've used heavily every day since I bought them and they still sound great.

Thanks;
Honestly not sure of the age. Took a guess after researching when this style seemed to come out. They replaced a biamped magnepan setup that I had for around 25years. Have to say I won't be looking back! I picked them up at a thrift type store at a incredible price with no knowledge of the speakers. Now I see why they come so highly regarded. Very happy with my purchase.
I'll post an older photo of the system these replaced.

Very nice system. I can't quite make out your sub on the left? I am just ok with the pair of Yamaha YST SW-150 subs I have in the center on the bottom shelf in my setup. Keep looking at HSU subs but unsure if its a step up or sideways.

The subwoofer is a 15" DIY ported design/build I did. I used the 15" driver from an Epik Valor subwoofer (internet direct supplier which is now out of business) and a BASH 500s plate amplifier. I was strongly considering both HSU and SVS subs at time of purchase, but decided to go with the then-new guy Epik.

Subwoofer build thread is here if interested.

Question In-wall thoughts?

Hi Monitor owners. I was hoping to get some of your thoughts. Hope it's not an interruption to the thread.

I currently have BIC Acoustech speakers up front in my 5.1 system. PL-89 for L & R, and PL-26 for center. I am thinking of moving to three monitor in-wall speakers (LCR) from their controlled performance line to put behind a large projector screen. The model I am looking at is the CP-WT380IDC for all three front speakers. I generally prefer a brighter sound. For example, I love focal's inverted titanium tweeter and (old-school) polykevlar drivers. I had an opportunity to go to Crutchfield and listen to the Monitor in-walls down a level from the 380IDCs, specifically the CP-WT240LCR. So if I'm honest, I thought the 240's highs were excellent; sharp but not piercing or obnoxious. BUT, the mids seemed really shallow and lacking almost like someone had turned down the equalizer on the mid-range frequencies. The bass of course wasn't there at all, but I wasn't expecting it to be with 4" drivers. So my thought is that since the 380s have an 8" driver as well as the 4" mid and 1" tweeter, they would perform better with the lower-mid-range that I had issues with from the 240s I heard. Any thoughts would be really appreciated as I don't have the option to listen to the 380s.

My receiver that would be used to drive these is an Onkyo 809. I have a fantastic sub to help with the low end - a Rythmik LVX12. And my room is about 12-1/2' x 19' with 8' ceilings.

Thanks again!

Thumbs up Monitor Audio Silver W12 Subwoofer

Hi there.I am an owner of a Silver W 12 Subwoofer for 2 weeks now.
I replaced my 2009 RSW 12 also from Monitor Audio due to a problem it had. Monitor Audio recognised that problem 7 years later and gave me a special price on a new Silver W12 Subwoofer in Natural OAK Colour. I wanted that in order to match with my B&W 603 S3's colour. The new W12 is 2 weeks now in my home but due to business hard working hours i have used it only 3 hours most. I have to wait and break in. Right?
I connected it with a new Supra Sublink cable to my Pioneer SC LX 75 (Eur.version of SC55).
I add some pictures to show you my new ''Monster''.
I wait from you advices and opinions. Thanks!
Cris.

Wanted to see what y'all thought about these rx1s. They're in good shape and the price is good, BUT if you look at the pics they have a glossy look to them. Knowing that this wasn't a factory option I asked the seller about it. He said he used Pledge Revitalizing Oil everywhere except the front and back...

I've redone my room setup, but haven't really taken time to set up the speakers properly (was t sure we were keeping room layout). I was able to get good soundstage earlier with my GX 300s with slight toe in. However, I've literally flipped things 90 degrees.

I've searched and can't find any good documentation - how should I be setting up crossover for ribbon tweeters? At MLP, or positioned behind MLP?

Nice setup! I'm curious why you didn't get a another gx100 as your center? By the look of your pic, it certainly seems like you have the height for it.

Has anyone had a chance to use these Monitor Audio CT380 IDC ceiling speakers? I'm looking for something to match with my all Martin Logan System for Atmos duty. I had a chance to look and listen to the Martin Logan EM R's and wasn't impressed.

I have the non closed back version C380. They sound good to my ears and blend well with the rest of my monitor audio floor level speakers. They're used for Atmos and between wide dispersion and swivel I'm happy with the effects.

I can't say how they blend with your speakers but for Atmos it may not be so critical.

Overall Monitor audio makes great sounding speakers, possibly a bit bright depending on how you run them.

Looking good! Same question I had in my most recent post; any reason why you don't go for a third tower for your center channel?

Monitor Soundframe? Any experience?

I'm looking to upgrade my Polk Monitor 70s and I'm thinking of the Monitor Soundframe on-wall series because I really want to save wall space. I've found a few good reviews of these speakers but very little has been written about them. Anyone try these? Can these really be a substitute for floorstanding speakers?

I have no opportunity to hear them before buying.

Its an older 3 piece system I picked up used. At such a low cost and a matched system it was a "no brain er" to stay with the LRC. Not sure as to where I'd put another tower (Silver RS6) as a center channel. Maybe laid on its side on the top shelve but I'd have to find more room for the current components now there. The room I have is just too small to move the stand / components and stand up a tower speaker under the TV. (although it would look great) I'm about 50/50 as far as movie / music listening now. The Monitor Audio speaker sound has me listening to older albums/cd's like never before. Having a large tower on its side not used 50 percent of the time would be hard to justify. Even being able to find a used single tower may be a hard thing to do.

I'll look at your post.

Doug

Hi friends,

I am setting up a 5.1.4 home theatre in a dedicated room in my new flat with Dolby Atmos.
Room layout is attached alongwith this post
Room size is 14.5ft x 10.5ft and height till false ceiling is 8.5ft.
Screen will be on wall measuring 10.5ft.
On this 10.5ft wall, 7.75ft x 4ft window is also there, that why I am going for motorised screen. Screen and front floor standing speakers will come in front of this window and centre speaker below screen. My purpose for home theatre is for viewing 70% movies or live sports screening and rest 30% music.

I have shortlisted finally these 2 Monitor Audio Speaker system. Please guide me which will be best for my room size.

1. Monitor Audio Bronze 6 (pair)
Bronze FX (pair)
Bronze Centre
SVS PB-1000 Subwoofer
Bronze CT180 inceiling x 4nos
Denon X4200W
or

2. Monitor Audio Silver 8 (pair)
Monitor Audio Silver Centre
Monitor Audio Silver FX (pair)
SVS PB-1000 Subwoofer
Monitor Audio CT180 incieiling x 4nos
Denon X4200W

So please tell me which will suit my needs more of 70% movies and 30% music ??

Either will work in a room that size, my room is the same at 12' x 12'.

Have you listened to both models?

I have the old GS series as well as BX1's (that will be used for Atmos in due time), when comparing the BX1 to say a GS10 it is a difference in sound, probably due to better mid/bass in the GS10 as it is twice the size. Hopefully once they end up in a bass managed system the difference will be reduced quite a bit or even go away. I have no idea how similar the new Bronze is to the Silvers, I have not listended to either.

I picked up a recorder at a yard sale. $5 dollars. Sad to say it but it sounds like it too..... Put the recorder on the back of the sofa with a pillow between it and the wall. Way too much base. Sounds muddy and highs are strange. Not like this in the room. Whole recording doesn't sound right at all. Still I put a lot of work into getting it on my You tube channel so I thought I'd post it anyway. I like bass but this is a little too much. Have to check the recorders settings. Recording has a lot of room sound you just don't hear normally. Sigh....

Hi Monitor owners! I'm considering a pair of Bronze 1's for my R/L. I can't have towers in my application, and I'll be adding a subwoofer so a lacking of bass won't be an issue. Any reviews of the newer models? Also, how important is it, if I do get these speakers, that I get the matching Bronze centre?
Thanks

Thanks
I have 2 pairs of bronze 1s for my height speakers and they sound excellent.

I have 4 silver towers for base layer sound and the bronze 1 fill in the upper layer superbly.

I had a different brand that were about $150/pr before as the height layer.
I only kept them for a couple of days and returned them. They sounded like a hissing static noise compared to the bronze 1s.

It is always recommended to stay in the same brand to match centers, but sometimes you can get lucky and find something 'close enough' It all depends on your ears and your room.

I use a pair of BX1s for my TV while rebuilding the HT. They sound really good for the price. They will be used as height speakers for me as well going forward. Add a nice little subwoofer and you will be pleased. One option to a bronze centre is to get a single Bronze 1 if you have the space to have it stand upright.

How do you like the Silver 10's? I keep looking at them. I currently have some Silver RS6's with subs but I have been thinking of not using the subs anymore if the 10's can do what I need alone. It seems you have a sub-woofer on the left. Do you need it when playing music with the 10's or is it just for video?

You are right.
The sub I use only for movies.
To listen to music, only Silver 10.
