Klipsh fans,

I am new but reading some of your posts for years. I never used Klipsh speakers before. Finally decided to buy and setup my home theater. I have a 5.1 Bose setup for almost 9 years. I don't like the sound quality especially when I setup my "range compression" off at my bose system. I hardly hear the voice from center speaker if my heat is on. So decided to move for a new setup. Finally concluded to go with Klipsh and Denon.

I am planning to started with 2RF 82 and Denon avr 1000 to begin with.

Any guideline from you folks, I am looking to buy from Crutchfiled or SD. Any other recommendation ?

RF 82 II are at 479 each and Denon is 379

I really appreciate your feedback....

You just missed a heck of a deal from NFM.com on the RF-82's. I got mine for $299 each! You could give them a call and see if they will still match / honor that price.

If they don't there are other resellers you can check that I don't remember off the top of my head but you will see them listed in this thread. Crutchfield has great customer support but they are probably not going to be the best price you can get.

As for the AVR check out the various Denon Threads on here and give JD over at www.avscience.com a call they are an authorized Denon Dealer and he contributes to all of the Denon Threads.

I have grown so used to that sound, and it's going to take a while to get used to not hearing that with the RF7s. But wow, I already like them better. Much more accurate sounding speakers.
Some of the lure of the 82s was their super-forward in your face megaphone sound, and what that brought out in the mids and highs. But that's not accurate sound - cool, yes, accurate, no. Again, I've grown used to that and will have to adjust my expectations a bit.
Definitely an upgrade, and definitely a different, better, fuller sound than the 82s.
I will rerun Audyssey tomorrow - I can tell everything is all jacked up now. That should let me give the new RC64 a good listen.
That is how my older RF7's and 63's sounded to me, just too harsh and bright. I would love to find some local RF7 ll's and hear them and see if they are better.

Yeah, I've read the older RF-7s were pretty insanely bright.
I had a set of RB-3s (I think that's what they were called(new circa '99ish), 8" bookshelf speakers, technically Ref III) before I got the Ref IV RF-82s, and holy cow those things would make your toes curl they were so bright. Seems Klipsch may tone down their horn setups every gen (good or bad). I would not want these new RF-7IIs to be any less bright. I think they're pretty much perfect, and they haven't even broken in yet.
I think once the woofers loosen up a bit, I'm going to have a permagrin. Now I just need some Audyssey XT32 action and maybe 3 Outlaw 2200 mono amps!

I sure am tempeted to buy some 7ll's, guess i won't ever find a set used local to me, so i guess if i ever find a good deal on some new cherry 7ll's i will have to jump. I went with the Paradigm Singature 2's after my last older RF7 set and have been happy with them. Just would love to see how the newer 7ll's would do in my smaller bedroom with a new RC64ll.

The older 7's would rock the room, just too harsh for my taste.

That bright harshness can be tamed some with room treatment. I had some 2006 RF-15's that were bright as well. I went with some used KLF's that are just perfect. I couldn't afford the 7 II's but feel I got a great speaker with dual 10" woofers that after the titanium diaphragm update from Bob Crites ($60 a pair) give's me a very affordable alternative. The KLF's can be had for around $500 a pair on the used market.

Edit: It's hard to beat the dual 8" KLF-C7 center too.

If you're just going to start with the fronts, I would recommend also including the center channel too. And since you're going with the RF82II's, you would want to get the RC62II.

I ordered mine from Crutchfield...great service, fast shipping. And you have 60 days if you want to return them for any reason and return shipping is only a flat $10, if the speakers aren't freight shipped (I think the RF7II's are, not sure about the 82's). Also, depending on where you are, no tax either.

Do you listen mostly to music, or movies? Reason I ask, is you're most likely not going to miss much using the 82's with a capable sub over the 7's. I can see the 7's really shining over the 82's in pure/direct mode playing music without a sub though. For $600 you did great! For movies with very little music, I wouldn't even give those 7's another thought. Hope this makes you feel better.

The plan right now is we are going to finish the basement and build a media room, next to that is a rec room. I am building a full 7.1.4 Atmos system. So mostly movies. I would like to down the road get a set of speakers for the rec room for music. Right now most the music I listen to is (don't get mad at me folks I know it sucks) via the phone to a bluetooth small speaker (little kids I don't get to listen my music much but I do know all the Disney soundtracks )
So yes what you said does make feel better and I'm sure tomorrow when I hook up the 82's and put in Star Wars there will be tears of happiness in my eye LOL.

+1 here on loving my new 82's. They are very nice, flex a lot of muscle and meld perfectly with my setup.

In looking at the pics of your room Brahmzy, I would think that the 82's sounding bright/harsh would be accentuated with no treatments. Room acoustics could have been the largest contributing factor to that sound.

BTW - The 7's look beautiful. -- Nice setup.

I also felt that RF82's were a bit harsher (brighter) than RF7ii's. Give it a week and you would be used to the fuller sound from RF7; it took that long for me to get used to the 'new' sound

Now I can see clearly the difference when I'm running 2 ch music (direct or stereo mode) compared to RF82; HT set up is anyway awesome with no sub

Hi everyone - I wonder if any of you have tried this combination - I have an RC7 center and a RT-12D sub that I'm going to pair up with a set of Heresy III's (that I will receive on Monday). I am hoping the sound matches up OK

Leo - I as well worked with Eric at SD. First look into NFM and see what pricing they can provide. I used the NFM sale to get a price adjustment from Eric for my 82's. Originally $900.00, Eric dropped to $700.00

Fair enough. I find the 82's to be a bit smoother than the 62's I originally had serving as my fronts. I like the enveloping sound they bring and find them enjoyable to listen to. Perhaps someday I will get to compare with an upgrade to 7's.

Holy smokes - reran Audyssey. I think I'm in heaven! What a difference! I thought the RF-7s would really only shine with my 2ch music. They really shine with the movies, and the RC64 center is a major upgrade too. Very happy!

Merry Christmas everybody!
