Welp, spreading them out fixed it! Got XT32 run, level matched everything and watched some DVR's.

Using CSI as an example for 5.1, the center sounds like it is coming from the screen. When the fronts are playing the same thing, they sound balanced, but when they aren't, you can tell where stuff is coming from. For example, at a police station, sirens were heard outside out of the front right while someone typing on a keyboard was clear as day out of the left.

When in stereo, if I stand at the MLP, it actually sounds like the sound is coming from the screen, not the left and right fronts. Perfectly balanced.

Another example, center sounds are also more segregated from right and left, doesn't sound like it they are tripping over each other. In a jail scene there was some loud discussion in the center, and some jail doors opening and shutting in the left. Could be easily distinguished, while nothing going on in front right.

I record a lot from vinyl to tape and I must admit analog has a different tone to it from some digital formats. Some LP with no tone controls used sound just like a good FLAC or lossless CD with a warm laid back tone/dynamics to it. On most entry level AVR HT system, LP's just suck as the phono section, pre amp for analog is lacking, no bass and they sound flatt no matter how you adjust the Eq or tone controls. But IMHO this person used that as a excuse, as some like 3 way Klipsch or the basic 2 ways. Crappie excuse I think, YMMV.

Yeah that's understandable. He listened for a good thirty minutes. Just to some jazz on Spotify through my PS4 lol.

Burn Robin Trower new LP "Something's About To Change" (totally different from R.T. )the bass and separation is Killer on this FLAC CD. It will show off the 5.5 Big Time thru your PS4. I use a PS3 for Blurays and was stunned when I played this thru my AVR as I usually use my Hafler Rack to my Cornwalls for CD music.

ok sounds good, he actually brought a CD with him, and the PS4 would not play just a regular CD??? i couldn't believe it.

That is weird, my PS3 has played everything I have thrown at it. But really the Robin Trower is worth a listen even if you don't like that kind of music it is recorded Great. The bass on track 4 is awesome give it listen.

After getting everything moved around, here are XT32 my measurements:

FR 10.3 feet
FL 10.4 feet (about 10.5 feet apart from each other)
Center 9.6 feet
Sub 1 12.2 feet
Sub 2 12.0 feet

FR -7.5db
Center -12db
FL -8db
Subs (after boost) -3.0db on both

New reference volume is -2.0db because of center bottoming out. I found it to be 77db with 0.0 reference volume and a test tone, so I adjusted the other speakers up +2db to match. Subs were originally set to -10.0db, which is what I wanted. After boosting them 2.0db for the center, and then another 5.0db because I think it sounds better, I end up at -3.0db.

If you have the skills, space and time, DIY is generally gonna well outperform ID for the $$$. B&M subs dont stand a chance.

Those appear to be "open box" and refurb items, rather than new items, so I wouldn't call it a sale.

You might want to explore this option.
Those appear to be "open box" and refurb items, rather than new items, so I wouldn't call it a sale.
Where do you think all of the 45 day returns go? Along with general returns.

So what's your final volume on your towers and center?
