Sub 1 12.2 feet
Sub 2 12.0 feet

FR -7.5db
Center -12db
FL -8db
Subs (after boost) -3.0db on both

New reference volume is -2.0db because of center bottoming out. I found it to be 77db with 0.0 reference volume and a test tone, so I adjusted the other speakers up +2db to match. Subs were originally set to -10.0db, which is what I wanted. After boosting them 2.0db for the center, and then another 5.0db because I think it sounds better, I end up at -3.0db.
So what's your final volume on your towers and center?

Not sure what you mean?

They are all set to 75db of course, and the new reference volume is -2.0db instead of 0.0 because of the center.

One another note, we watched taken 3 last night (I wont get into how good the movie wasn't) but spreading these speakers out obviously allowed them to breathe. I had zero complaints, and the dialog was crisp, clear, and throaty. Neeson has a pretty deep voice, and with the center and subs so close, it sounded like it was all coming from the screen (at -2.0db volume on preamp).

It was a little more involved, he sent me a PM and I sent him back about 8 paragraphs. Will probably be sorry he asked LOL

Basically, at reference volume (0.0db) with a -30dbfs signal, my center is 77db's. So, I make all my speakers 77db's at 0.0, and then just use -2.0 as my new reference volume

And since I like to boost my sub 5db for 0.0 volume, I have to actually boost 7db's since I am using -2.0 not 0.0.

Center bottomed out at -12db level setting. Audyssey needed to make it 75db's but it could not. At 0.0, with test tone, the center is actually 77db's while all other speakers are 75db's. Can't have one 2db more hot than the others.

The solution is, you make them ALL hot at 0.0 reference volume (since the other speakers can be made louder, I just can't make the center any more quiet since it is bottomed out adjustment wise). Now, if all speakers are 2db hot at reference volume, it makes your reference volume now -2db.

All speakers are 77db at 0.0, but should be 75db's. When I set volume to -2.0 and test them, they are all now level matched at 75dbs. If you just chose to reduce your reference colume to -2.0 db to get the center down from 77db's, it would mean the center would be 75dbs, and the rest of the speakers would be 73db's. Same problem is still present.

You adjust all other speaker levels up to match the offending speakers level. And then, if you care about an accurate reference level, you have to figure out what it is after the adjustments (because it aint 0.0db's anymore on the volume setting).

I watch movies at reference, so it matters. If you watched everything at -15db anyways, the "new" reference volume would not matter but you would still need to level match you speakers if auto eq ran out of adjustment.

Say you run audyssey and it sets your center to -12. You fire up the db meter and test tone and find your center is 80db's at 0.0 volume, and the others are 75db. Regardless of volume setting, they will always be 5db off from each other. You need to match them. using 0.0 is easiest on a D&M product because their reference volume (0.0) should always report 75db. If one speaker reports 80db, you know you just need to boost the other's 5db, so regardless of volume setting they are now level matched.

All those -5 or -7 trim level settings in the menu after auto eq are just auto eq trying to make them all 75db's at reference volume.

The speaker tones (pink noise) are -30db's because the reference level on those channels is actually 105db, but thats way to loud. So the test tone is -30 (75db), and you should make sure all speakers report 75db with the -30db test tone at reference volume in the avr.

The sub channel is actually 115db, so it's test tone is -40dbs. So once again, it should be 75db with the test tone.

Watched American Sniper last night, as well as some DVR's (GoT for example). This setup really sounds good, I mean once I got the fronts spaced out more for separation, the 7II's and 64II just really have a meaty sound, yet very clear.

I really notice the center more, especially on DVR stuff with a lot of dialog. During the busy action scenes in Sniper, gunshots are other sounds came thru cleanly and with authority. It just really really sounds good.

I was a little skeptical about the comments of the 64II vs the 62II, but its there. I just think that 1.75" compression driver is hard to beat, and the extra drivers help out a lot.

I honestly can't find anything to nitpick, regardless of what type of program we watch.

Congratulations for getting your front soundstage like you want it!

For clarity, the larger compression driver mated to a larger horn is the major SQ difference between the lines, historically as well.

Fwiw, still after a dozen years I feel the sentiment of your last statement except my RC-7 has dual 8" LF drivers along with the 1.75 CD and to round out the soundstage, RB-75s (surround and rear) with similar CDs and single 8" LF drivers.

Multichannel music sounds phenomenal in here and last night I watched Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Killer at 6 dB on the main volume--today I played around with various scenes. It was an okay movie, with decent sound effects and worth the $5 I paid for it.
