If you get your room right and speakers calibrated then you can EQ to taste and try room correction software, but you shouldn't never rely on an EQ to treat a bad room to begin with.
A bad room you treat and EQ, its the main reason.

Edit: just noticed your said in the AVR and I agree. I use audyssey pro. I always turn off DEQ, just use distance, filter, and crossover.

Unless your theater room is Radio City Music Hall, I can pretty much guess we ALL have bad rooms.

My ears are shot. Too much headphones in high school, car stereos and airplanes from my Navy days. Tin ears!

And yes...coat hangers make acceptable speaker wires!

Sure, but a 2.0 HT stereo presentation should still sound great without calibration at least in an average sounding room. That said, a calibrated full surround should win in all respects.

All calibration systems have a Jerry McGuire, "help me help you," nature to them. It's good to start with at least a semi-decent room and proper speaker placement for them to really shine.

it is just a dedicated theater, nothing special lol! I hope I didn't come across like that, really wasnt my intention. If I offended you I am truly sorry. I am enthusiast, just try to Help when I can. I line tweaking things so I Ann a real fan of room treatments, EQ and hate it when someone is unhappy with there speakers and always try to find a solution.

Lol Gene! Actually, just received my 2nd pair of 140's. At the moment, I can only go to 7.2. Have to wait for OPPO to market the next gen players for me to go to 7.2.4.
