All of my Dynaudio speakers past and present have been white, with the exception of the focus line...I had a 210c and the 160's were in walnut.Got some bad news today,or maybe good...I talked to my local dealer, and he said he is retiring and closing up the store. Last time I talked to him,he said another guy was going to take over the business, but apparently that is not going to happen. The only good thing is that he is selling off his remaining inventory, and he said there are some real good deals to be had,so I will head there Saturday to see.

Looking forward to seeing your system, I'll take some better photos of mine in daylight and post them later.

As for the color, the store only had them in white so it wasn't really a choice - normally I would never pick a white speaker, however I googled for pictures of white Dynaudio speaker setups and from there I could see that white speakers can actually look very well, also in a combined black/white hifi setup.

EDIT:
I do wish I hadn't gone with the black stands though, as white stands would have looked so much nicer, I see now.
I may want to sell them and get some white later if I keep feeling this way.

Thank you for the congrats, guys! I am happy!

BigAl, yes shame about the tweeter, this morning I have not checked if I can hear any difference in sound today.
I could yesterday when the tweeter was dented very much, however after it came out 99% again, I compared again and the highs sounded the same to me on both L and R speaker.
So I'm hoping it's now just a small cosmetic problem which is not audible anymore.

roland, hehe! I can't decide. One moment I want to, but the next I want to save the money and "just" get a NAD M51 DAC instead to put in front of the AVR.
I borrowed one from my local dealer and just adding that dac alone makes a world of difference.
I could not believe it when I heard it!

Thanks again everybody!

(Great forum this one btw. and especially great to be able to communicate with and get advice/tips from fellow Dynaudio users and fans)

Btw. yesterday I was concentrating my listening on spotting differences in sound with the 160s vs. my Excite X14.
This morning, sitting in front of the computer and just listening to music on the 160s, I instantly hear they are not burned in - they have that characteristic "woolen" sound of gear that ain't broken in yet.
I'll play non stop during the day today.

You can scroll back and forth between them with the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Just heard Taylor Swift "I knew you were trouble" - the bass on these speakers is super tight already!
Bass is more precise than what I recall from Excite X14.

That sucks. I hope it is just retirement and not poor sales that's causing him to close. Maybe you can get a good deal on that 250 now just in case you need it later. and an extra power line or two just in case.

He said it is just retirement, and still might be doing a bit of work from home for good customers(me)...his wife's health is not that good he said.I was thinking exactly the same thing as you mentioned (250 dr and 2 powerlines).I was kind of taking a break from buying any new gear for a while...I was waiting to hear the new contours I am hoping to find something good this weekend, like a Muso QB,at cost,LOL. Congrats on the 160's,I would still get a rug if i were you,and it looks like the cat can easily leap from his perch at the window to the top of the right speaker...witch might be a disaster! You now have a great foundation, take your time and demo a few integrated's,dac's,etc...in your own home, after you have a few hundred hours on them.Myself i like the black stands with the white speaker, just like my excite 12's and stand 3's.

Erm, if you suck, don't do it too hard ... but seriously a lightly applied scotch tape works well and the entire cloth dome will be formed back..

Here's a quick snap of my room - white 160s w/ silver dynaudio stands. Up next I need to rearrange the amp setup, and fill my stands with sand.

Nice looking speakers and stands! They certainly "pop" against the dark walls.

Do you have the ability to pull them forward of the fireplace wall? I imagine you'll have better imaging and depth if that's an option. Also, nice job making the wire raceway/run integrate very nicely into the wall; I had to look twice to spot it. Again, nice-looking setup!

Thanks, AA! Appreciate the kind words. I don't know if it's represented in the pic, but I do try and get the front baffle clear of fireplace wall. I don't have the option to get them truly out into the room, but that's OK. They sing just fine from there.

And yeah, I put a little bit of thought into how the wires would look. Not enough, though, as math is not my strong suit and I ordered my cables about 1ft shy of what I'd need to do in order to thread them through the stands like this:

Thanks, no quarter Also thanks for the warning about my cat possibly leaping onto the new speakers. I merely switched the boxes I used on top of the X14 to the Focus 160 without considering that the latter is actually a bigger speaker, meaning, the top of it is also bigger and thus easier for the cat to jump onto unless more "filler" stuff is added. I've put an extra box on top of each of the speakers now.

As for a rug, I'm going to get one. I'm not sure I can get used to it, but I'd like to try at least. I'll just make sure and buy one that is not overly expensive, yet still has long surface or whatever it's called so it helps well acoustically.

Yes, it's a nice foundation now. I think I will take your advice about taking my time and listening to many different things before making any decision on getting an amp and/or dac, and letting the Focus'es get a couple hundred hours playing time first. I'll also see if I can get used to the black stands/white speaker combo

Should I rush out and get the Focus 210C centre speaker that matches my Focus 160, while it's still available?

I don't need it at all currently, though.
It's only if I move to another apartment where I can place the front speakers further apart that a centre speaker will become useful/necessary.
However I've lived here for 5 years now and have no plans on moving.
It would just suck to not buy it and then regret it years down the line, when it perhaps becomes very hard to find used.
We're talking about 700 Euros though ($777).
That's a lot of money to pay for something you feel you have no need for.

What would you do?

IMO if you intend to keep both for a while, the answer is grab it!
If I know of such a good price, I would keep one too.. cheers

In my opinion that price is outstanding for such great center if you would eventually buy one cause at some point it might be very difficult to find I would pull the trigger now, with Dynaudio it's not much of an issue mixing lines, they usually blend in realy really good in HT configuration and the X-24 coud be the alternative to the 210-C but chances are it will cost you more.

Hey guys I just found a cheap little tweak that IMO is quite substantial for the money ($120 USD). Over on Agon I've been reading the chatter about fuses. So I gave the Synergistic Research Black Fuse a shot. Since it has a 30 day money back guarantee I felt I had nothing to lose except return shipping. Well it's not going back. Mind you it's not earth shattering but significant for the money spent. First it IS directional. After installing it I heard no difference but then after about 50 hrs I heard more clarity and details especially in the mids and highs so I decided to flip it around. I lost all the added clarity and put it back the right way (no there are no markings). They say it needs 200 hrs to settle down. BTW you don't have to play music but just keep the unit powered on. Anyhow last night after 218 hrs I put the original stock fuse back in. That confirmed the added details and clarity. The bass will do go a hair deeper but it's the mids and highs where it is most noticeable.
