Sig has been changed while you posted , I am shocked as to why the 3.4 LE did not have the orange cover, glad I changed my order , I am sure your 3.4 LE sound fabulous and I am sure I would have been happy with them but since it was not too late for me after the announcement in Munich I really wanted to get those new Contours .

Yeah I have done that for the X-18 I played them 24/7 after I was coming back from work noticed improvements but I'll have to disagree with the Nordost rep , Worse speaker OOB was the X-18, on the C-30 you hear the congestion they have not opened up yet, certainly not after 3 hours, both my Totems sound bigger ( more open, bigger soundstage) and they come in much smaller package but I know they will open up as the X-18 did, at least I got a great peak at the final result at the show as they Nordost was using the C-20 paired with some Atoll audio equipment.

I know they will be fabulous.

Forgot my damn camera for the show , I shall go tomorrow again and catch some pics to share with you guys but anyway long story short I got to finally hear the new contours after that blind buy and they have not disappointed me far from it was jaw dropping sound. I have been warned by Nordost rep here that owns a pair of Confidence C-2 Platinum, He said that these new contours were the worse sounding speaker he's ever heard out of the box at the point he thought they were broken.

He basically told me just be patient and you'll be well rewarded, he had about 250 hours on the C-20 so far and they sounded amazing yet he thought they would still improve some more , Open soundstage, great detailing, the piano reproduction was to die for.
Congrats on your new Dyns. They look great. Bringing back sexy in the BA casa! You'll get some leg tonight for sure.

Congrats on the new Contours; I really like the new cabinet design! I'm sure that soon enough, they'll sound as good as they look.

Guys, I'm a new member here, my first post

I'm offered a pair of Focus 160 (brand new) at $1,670. Is it a good price? I know it's a discontinued model and the dealer just want to finish this model.

If it is a good deal, is Rega Elex-R or Naim Nait 5si a good choice to drive the Focus? There is no way for me to try/demo them because they are not from the same dealer. I don't want to spend much $$$ and the options aren't that many here (NAD, Audiolab, Cambridge Audio and $$$ stuffs like Unison, Jeff Rowland, Krell) so I thought Rega and Naim are somewhat reasonable in term of $$$.

I'd appreciate some feedbacks!

Winston

Hi Scopedude,

I am an owner of focus 160.

IME dynaudio works well with NAD, as the focus 160 can be a bit bright.

i have tried pairing with NAD and Cambridge, preferred the nad.

The unit i paired is the C275bee amplifier.

Tony, just made the firmware upgrade, and it is such change that it seems that the speakers reach their break-in period, lol

I know that time by time it will became much better, but all I can say now is WOW!

Just a tip to evaluate the need of ansub, try the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack, the Dread Rock track made my entire house to shake... LOL

See if you still need a sub, and guve me back your impressions!

Regarding the tweeter protection, my 600XD alao came with it.

Wellcome Dynaudio new owners!

Regards,
Eduardo
Ps: i am using digital Nordost Heimdall 2 interconnect, do you suggest other? I still need on 4m long to connect one speaker to the other...

If you went with Naim the XS would be a better choice as it would sound smoother with the Focus 160. there i sa good price difference but a used XS pairs extremely well with the 160 and can be had probably for cheaper than a new 5si.

19h 30 into break in Voicing is nasal and piano does not come trough at all very hard for a speaker but I can get a few good flashes but nothing like the 20s did at the show, almost sound like the sound is coming out of a cardboard box.

9 more day of patience and play time 24/7 and we shall hear magic operate. Keep you guys posted on progress.

I've owned the Focus 160s and the Nait 5i, have not heard the 5si, the 5i strained just a bit, however I was told by my Naim dealer the 5si doesn't suffer the same effects with an improved power supply and the extra 10 watts. The 160s are a touch bright and the strain of the original 5i forced me into getting the XS, which is a warmer sounding amp, the combo went together very well. I've heard the Rega Brio, I felt the Nait 5i was a better amp, punchier and quicker with a little better detail, but the Rega gave instruments a little more tonal color and warmer sounding. The XS, gave me the tonal color but with better of everything the 5i had. The 5si is supposed to have better bass and play louder more easily with the improvements made, but the heart and soul of the 5i sound.

C30s look sweet Oliver! Look forward to see how they compare with the Forest Sigs. Any pics from the audio show?

Thanks John, Sorry no pics from the show I forgot to bring my gear and let's face it my BB cam is garbage so i have nothing I will try to go tomorrow. Laugh all you want with my BB

Out of the box they sound like crap indeed 22 hours of play time now and sounding a little better, voices are not as nasal or congested as hey were last night. Guitar sounds ok so far but piano just does not cut it and the sound stage is not as open as I heard on the 20s at the show but at least that gives me great hope and I knoww they will shine, just a matter of time.

The Sigs are truly special honestly and right now the X18 sound better than the C30 no joke so it gives you an idea.

All I can say is craziest setup at the show was the Red Grande Utopia's EM paired with Naim NAC S1 and NAP S1 Monos, insane setup.

Thanks Aditiya, BigAI87 and callas01!

I'm surprised that the 160 is a touch bright as some Dyns that I've listened to seem neutral - including the Emit M10.

My last speakers were Totem Model 1 Signature, SF Concerto, and Raidho Emilie S3 - sold them years ago - now suddenly I need to get back in

My room is smaller now, measuring 5x3.5m (16.4' x 11.1') so I thought the 160 with 60-70w/ch should be enough.
