Well after 16 weeks I finally got my contour 60's in grey oak!!!! Now begins the break in. I must say they sound pretty damn good just out of the box though! There being ran with pass x260.8 mono blocks, pass xp-12 pre, aurender N10 and morrow cables. I'm still waiting on the yggdrasil and torus rm20 to complete this new system.

Few pics. I actually like the grey over the red. With the stand 6 they look sick.

The Vitus-RI-100 is their "Reference" range and the SIA-025 is their "Signatgure" range and cost more. Vitus is known for their class A products. So the SIA-025 is more fairer comparison IMHO. Mind you I have recently seen a used SIA-025 asking for 10K in AUD, that's without bargaining.

I will say this about the S40s in general. Even after 2 hours of break in these speakers are an insane value for $3K. Dynaudio has definitely pushed the envelope with the latest technology in this speaker. Very impressed so far.

Hey all,

I recently switched my mains back to the DM 2/6 and I'm absolutely blown away by the treble and midrange (the bass isn't bad either). The soundstage is so wide and deep it's totally enveloping. Happy camper here!

Nice to see the S40 show up in the US! I hopefully will have a pair down the road as well! Here is a few pictures from Tyler store via his Facebook page, trying to figure out what the speakers on the right are? These will make any Naim/Dynaudio fan drool after seeing these pictures, just trying to figure out what the
Studio Series is? Ah, finally figured it out, but those look like big damn boxes for Studio pairs......

I installed a pair of the S4-W80 two weeks ago. I said the same thing on the box. There is a lot of packing as each speaker is in its own box.

And that S40 box isn't there anymore . Tyler and his wife Dana are first class.

That's quiet a price range jump from EMIT 20 to C20.
I had Focus 160 & X18. They posses similar characteristics, Focus had slightly bigger sound, bass area was almost identical, highs aswell. Maybe Focus had a bit more tipped-up top end, Excite being more even. Both have a bit hollow/thin mids.

Has anyone heard Dalis? They're pretty popular in Europe and also manufactured in Denmark.

I had heard some higher-end models, they're really sweet sounding, sweetness before transparency. But engineered correctly as per stereophile measurements.

Just curious if there are any Dali owners here..

I've heard their Epicon8 only. Sounds lovely but arguably over priced at over $20K US.

Have never compares the two. Just technically, it has been confirmed that X18 uses the same woofer as Focus 160. Otherwise, it's an Excite cabinet, tweeter, and crossover. I think Special40 now truly replaces Focus 160 in the lineup, filling the gap between X18 and C20.

During my Dyn audition, the dealer also had a pair of Zensor 3's on hand as a budget option. I thought that in terms of sound/overall fun factor, they gave the X14/F160's a run for their money. I was actually quite shocked when they were plugged in and I could hardly tell a difference between it and the Dyn's. Build quality and aesthetics were won by Dynaudio. Of course they were all powered by Bryston amp/pre-amp, which I would doubt people would realistically pair with lower priced speakers. Still, that was the day I took notice of Dali. I later heard a pair of Rubicon 5's at another dealer that also sounded pretty impressive, but this time with noticeably better overall craftmanship.

The XP-12 is a really nice preamp I have found. I ran it for a few weeks while UPS tracked down my lost 250.8, so I had the chance to run it with a different amp. It's detailed, yet smooth. Volume control is super precise.

260.8 mono blocks - that is a ton of power, enjoy.

The speakers really will break-in. First speaker that I've owned (though I buy used typically), that truly changed characteristics over the first month. I found they really opened up in the mids and highs.

Enjoy!

Thank you for the Focus comparison!

And yeah, that price jump is why I split the difference and went with the X18s. I only auditioned the C20s and as nice as they were, I couldn't justify the price. They sounded lovely (big and spacious) and maybe a tad "soft". I ended up getting the X18s unheard, instead, based on reputation and price alone. Not ideal but you know...

That's good to know. I was unaware of the technical specifics between models. The C20 was audibly smoother to my ears (almost to the point of being soft). When I set up my X18s at home, I noticed a little more "bite" but never edgy. I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone. Anyway, thanks for the info! The S40s might be a worthy upgrade down the road!

I had Dali in my system before and I have a pair of Zensor 7's in my living room, decent but won't break the bank, great for second system and not my main listening area, as I don't care as much if they don't get used as much or kids damage them, which thankfully hasn't happened. Decent speakers, I did like the Ikon series and Opticon and have heard the Epicons, frankly I would take any Dynaudio speaker over them in any series with the exception of the Epicon series, then your getting close to Dynaudio quality etc...I did really like the Dali Epicon2 I heard at Axpona last year with some Rogue gear hooked up too them, very nice and on par with the Contour 20, you would have to put them side by side and do a good comparison to really make any judgments on either of these speakers...

GT: still less expensive then Raidho's, all depends on your pocket book and weather the extra cash is well spent verses slight performance differences, some say any improvement is worth it...

Dynaudio, Magnepan, Belles, Hegel, Musical Fidelity and KEF, etc......Contour's 20's/Special 40's or Raidho next...

What did you feel you were gaining sonically from the Emit 20 to the X18's? Is it essentially the greater detail between tweeters? Slightly greater extension?

I could tell their was slightly more air/detail in the Focus tweeter versus Excite. Like you were a little closer to the stage and the room felt bigger.

I have never heard the Emits. I bought the X18s unheard. At the time, the S40 had not been announced yet so that wasn't an option. I chose the X18 based on my audition of a pair of C20s. The C20s were great but out of my price range, sadly. The X18 was simply the next step down.

If I had been able to compare the E20s to the X18s, I would have loved to have done so. I assumed the X18s would be an upgrade over the Emits. Maybe a bad assumption on my part.

I own a pair of Concept 1 speakers from Dali. Original retail was like $299 I think. I bought them NIB on eBay. They're good speakers. They are more colored sounding and not as good with bass as the DM2/6s I have. They also look far cheaper aesthetically. My wife and I feel they sound a little boxy also when we put them in in place of the 260s when we were having some home improvements done. I heard the Ikon 1, 2 and 7 as well as the mentor 5. Mentor was not an actual audition tho, I didn't know I was listening to it until it was turned off to play something else. The Ikons are a touch bright to me. Have not heard any of the recent stuff tho.

callas01: The Ikon series had way too much tweeter for my taste, using two different tweeters was suppose to give it more detail, but I think it over did it for my tastes. I thought the less expensive Zensor line sounded better....
