My wife and I are DINKs (double income, no kids) but we don't take purchases lightly either. Other than mortgage and auto loans, we never buy anything on credit, never. We have 3 CCs that get paid in full each month. Therefore, if I want an audio upgrade I have to pay cash for it out of savings and only if there is extra, since that fund also has to cover other expenses like vacation, home repair, healthcare, and so on, not to mention we have to be very careful about saving for retirement. I have limited discretionary funds and have to balance that between audio and cycling. I can't have two expensive hobbies at the same time, but somehow I do.

Page 3! Quite the lull.

See...right about now, is where I would usually chime-in with something; not necessarily about Dyn, per se...but, on the topic of audio. To kind of keep things going.

Only one more of those posts to go.

The LE line will comprise only the S1.4 and S3.4. I have heard the S3.4 will have the Esotar2. I doubt that S1.4 will have them since those tweeters retail for half the S1.4 retail.

The S3.4 sound great with Esotar2 tweeters.

So we finally have a C1 floorstander. Surprised that it took Dynaudio this long to come up with a hotrod S3.4. Watch how popular this model will be.

I did that on my own about two years ago. It was 15 minutes of work to install the Esotar2 into my S3.4s, but it sure took a long time to break them in.

I don't think Dynaudio has published anything to say the Esotar2 will the improved tweeter in the S3.4LE, but that is what I am told by a rather reliable source.

Well, the price they are coming in at from what I have seen you might as well get a Confidence C1, they should make them priced to compete agains many other brands out there that are coming in under the 3K mark, I read on another site that they will be over 7K.

What will be over $7K? The S3.4LE? That makes sense to me since the current S3.4 retail for $6500. I could have gotten C1s instead of my S3.4s, but I had the S1.4 and was looking for a floorstander and specifically not another monitor.

I cannot imagine the S1.4 LE going for $7K. That would be double the price of the standard S1.4 and makes no sense to me.

RaceTripper, It would be the Contour S3.4LE that would come in around that price... I am redoing my room and I need more space for a bigger screen so I might look at the S5.4 and S3.4/S 1.4LE if they switch for the Esotar2 which would work wonderfully with the SCX as well. I would of course switch to the Gloss Mocca Finish! This is contingent on the sale of my front 3 speakers of course......

That price for the S3.4LE makes complete sense to me. I don't know that I would compare to the C1 MK II. That's a different animal, IMHO.

When I got my S3.4 and added the Esotar2 to them, I could have gotten C1s instead, but I wanted floorstanders...to give me more slam for large scale orchestral music. I had the S1.4 before them, and while I thought they sounded great, they seemed a bit anemic when playing big symphonies. I think the C1 monitors would have sounded great for me otherwise.

I am happy with how I ended up. My used S3.4s plus the Esotar2 cost me less than a pair of used C1s (at the time).

RaceTripper: Smart move as the LE will be a very limited supply. If I happen to sell my C2s which I am no hurry to do, I would opt for the S5.4 or S3.4s Or I keep what I have and just try another monitor S1.4 LEs.

I heard the projected price of the 1.4S LE is $4250.00 3.4S LE $7850.00 USD

I don't find those prices surprising. If the S3.4LE really has the Esotar2, then that's a pretty good price when compared to the S5.4 or the Focus 380 (the other sub-Confidence speakers with Esotar2). They are three way, but cost over $10K.

So Dean, if you had to do itr over again, would you stick with your original choice? Myself, I gave up my 3.4's to go c1 and i do believe I lost something.

I wouldn't mind so much if Dynaudio were more forthcoming about what exactly the improvements are, for now it looks like some minor tweaks and a new paint job. If they were esotar tweeters though...

Yeah, I think so.

I want to stick with the big cabinets of floorstanders. Where large scale orchestra and choral music is concerned I think it helps to bring out the big sound I want for that. That was what I noticed most about going from the S1.4 to S3.4 (the Esotar2 came months later). I'm sure the C1s would sound great and I could be happy with them, but I think I would lose something getting rid of the big cabinets. I believe adding the Esotars2 to the S3.4 gave me some of what is great about the C1s while keeping what is great about the S3.4. My path is towards the C2s if and when I can ever swing that.

I would love to get the C1 MkII and the S3.4 LE in the same room for comparison.

Ok I'll interject a little info. From reading the different reviews and literature and talking with dealers, the focus uses a tweeter very close to esotar2, at minimum the contours have to use the same tweeter, I've heard the focus tweeter referred to by a couple dealers as an esotar1, esotec2, and baby esotar. Now both have said the improvement to the focus cabinet still isn't quite up to the contours standard with the decoupled baffle, plus you can get custom finishes on the contours cabinets not on the focus. I know that cause I've asked! $4250 seems a little low to offer a $1700/pr tweeter, at that price the LEs would be more sought after then the C1s, possibly.

callas01: That sounds about right I think the LE versions will be similar to the Special 25 and Contour 1.3SE is there will be limited production of them, I was told that there will be a very limited amount in the states. The Contour 1.3SE was one of my favorite monitor because the price wasn't too bad and the sound was excellent, I didn't have the Special 25s long enough to enjoy them because I was deciding between them and the C1 MKII.

Right now I have the Dynaudio C2 going, my Maggies and KEF LS50s, all produce great sound at difference cost points, but the C2s just have a better over all balance of bass/high/mids etc.. That being said they also cost 7-8 times more, if you compare retail prices. Both KEF and Magnepan have won awards with their speakers, LS50 and the Magnepan 1.7 and now I know why.

Well: I wish they would at least put the Esotar2 in the S3.4s and S1.4s and get over it, frankly at a certain price point these days you will loose customers. It would be nice to see if possible if they could put out a S1.4LE Contour with the Esotar2 tweeter at the 3K mark or just under. The Special 25 was/is a great speaker and I know they had limited runs (I believe 2 of them) a reissue later.. Trickle down technology is happening everywhere and even at Dynaudio, it would be nice to see it happen sooner though!

I think of they put the esotar2 in a 1.4SE the price would have to come in about $5000.

I agree. We are not going to see the Esotar2 in the S1.4. The retail is half what the current S1.4 are now. I bet we see an improved tweeter from the Focus series.

So...the rumors are true; I have new speakers.

Oh wait...you're probably more interested in these. For the record...MkII, not SE. Oh the irony.

CD: Nice looking speaker..... I been trying to find a pair of the SE for quite some time, but I would be happy with the new Focus 160 as I just heard a pair and I must say no Esotar2 but who cares they sounded wonderful!

thats nice, how did you like them compared to other speakers you have heard/owned recently?

I really enjoyed having the 160s while I had them. but I love the 260s, they give up nothing that the 160s had and just added extension
