No Nordost for Le Roy. He has Ansuz. He did an in home demo between the 2 brands and chose Ansuz.

Sorry to hear about your back (been there done that). At least you have 3 boys to help.

The Oppo dont have HD Audio out on Coax digital. But on HDMI it has, That is because of copy protection.
I do it this way. SACD i have.
Oppo hdmi out to Lumagen hdmi in
Lumagen coax digital out1 to Dynaudio 600 XD.

The only thing i have to check if the signal is a 24 bit !!

The Oppo and Lumagen is normaly use in my Home cinema, so i allreyda have these.

DSD/WAV/AIFF/Apple Lossles/MP3 etc... zero issue so far. Other than that, great company, great food, great equipment, speakers and of course music!
I have an oppo also, yea they read everything. I haven't met tyler in person, but I've talked to him over the phone a dozen time or more and text... A lot. Glad to hear you had a good time.

For those with the Contour S3.4, do you leave it leveled or slightly tilt it up? I tried tilting the speakers up (equivalent to putting a quarter or two under the front feet), and found that it has better details, better instrument separation, and bigger soundstage. It also has an overall brighter sound. By the way, I have carpet floors.

On another news, I got the Black Box for my Octave V70SE and have been using it for the past couple of weeks. It made a significant difference. I found that the bass is tighter and has more details/textures, wider soundstage, and much smoother treble (it got rid of a lot of the edginess, especially with modern pop recordings).

Congrats on the BB. I would describe it as a lower noise floor which pretty much is what you found. Did you notice any extra headroom? I didn't but honestly don't play it loud enough for it to matter for me.

I don't think I play loud enough to notice the extra headroom. At my normal listening level (about 75-80 db, measured from 7 ft away), the volume knob is usually between the second and third mark (between 8 and 9 o'clock positions).
I did notice that I don't need to turn the volume as high to get enough details. Maybe that's an indication of extra headroom? Or another effect of lower noise floor (lower noise = darker background = more details)?

Any suggestions/observations on tilting the speakers up?

They arrive tomorrow. 3-amp, 2-speaker shoot-out; for a destination at CDs place.

I know I don't dare mention the speakers; but I'm trying a pair of Pass'...the 30.8 and 150.8...against my incumbent ARC DS-450.

They'll be no "losers" in this bunch; only a match. So the rest will be up for grabs!

CD: I am a Nelson Pass fan, but his Amps went off the charts price wise after he left "Threshold" which I was a huge fan of. I had the T-800D Amp which was a beast and the T2 pre/amp, one of the best systems I owned, of course they were running a pair of Dynaudio Contour 3.3 and the combo was superb! I wish manufactures would bring back the big meters on the front and have the option of turning them off or on! I aways thought they looked cool!

Hey...Dyns ain't exactly cheap either, lol. I tried a First Watt M-2, and was just blown away. I think that amp, retails for $3600; but if memory serves, I got a used one...in fine shape...for like $1200! Amazing!

Not enough juice, for my power-hungry speakers at the time; but I loved the sound of it. If I weren't going for one of the big-buck Pass', I'd surely try his new F-6.

Here's a very cool fact, about the class-A 30.8: it's a BEAST, but rated 30/60. Those of you who know class-A, know it's terribly inefficient. But there's sooo much headroom...it doesn't sound at all, like you'd expect 30/60 to sound; if you're used to A/B.

A reviewer...astounded at the "power" of the 30.8...asked NP, what it would likely be rated, if biased in A/B. Using the same hardware, but tweaking the circuit; Nelson surmised around 300 ponies per side...8 ohms!

Ah Stephen - I wanted to by some tubes (Ei KT90's) but he wasn't sure of the type (1 2 or 3). Rhett bought them and Later I traded Rhett some type 2's for his type 3 which were from Stephen. They may be the ones in the Octave right now.

I'm Back

Hey guys,

I'm back. It was a pretty light suspension.

Firstly, I want to apologize to anybody I may have offended. People that have met me in person or have communicated with me over the years know that post is not my true nature.

Secondly, I want to extend my gratitude to all you guys who supported me. Thanks so much.

Instead of being like the first photo, from now I'll try to be more like the second.

BD, good to have you back! I finally finished that sub project we were emailing about. It's not the IB you were wanting me to build, but I think it came out pretty well. Check out post 24087 for pic

Thanks,

Your Sub project turned out pretty good. I especially like the granite or marble inlay you did on the top.

IB subs can be real difficult as far as location. Since the back wave is just as loud as the front wave, that back wave has to shoot into an unoccupied space such as an attic, crawl space, garage, or unfinished basement. I guess you could shoot the back wave through the wall to the outside, but then you'd have some pretty peed off neighbors.

Good job on the sub.
