Yes, it was expensive, but I purchased everything at a significant discount off MSRP, except the Integra which I feel like I stole anyway. If I need to sell it at any time in the next year or two, I will likely get 80 to 90% of my money back. When shopping for this stuff, I am always asking myself what the resale value will be in the future ( I usually give some thought to how the value of an item will likely depreciate over a 1 to 5 year time frame). My family doesn't have alot of money, but my secret is I look at everything as an investment. My last system was a Paradigm Reference Syterm which I purchased new for ~ $5,000 and sold 2 years later for ~ $500 profit. How did I do it? I bought the speakers in Canada, negotiated the purchase price to the penny and took advantage of the (then) high exchange rate (US to canadian $). Yes, I realize that generally this is not an investment I am likely to make money in, but if I can keep the loss to a minimum it ensures that the majority of the money I invest in this hobby can be made available, if necessary, for emergencies or emergency upgrades .

Huge grain of salt going into this round up...my pre-amp is still on back order (Integra DTC-9.8)

Amps: 2 - Rotel RB-985 MKII's (one @ $400, one @ $325, MSRP new $1000 each)
Transport: Oppo Digital DV-981HD $329 (neat, because w/ 6 discrete pre-amp outs, it can be hooked directly into the amps...sans pre-amp unit)
Speakers: Front- B&W 805's (1st gen.) ($964 for pair, MSRP $2000), Center- B&W HTM1 (1st gen.) ($1077, MSRP $2500), Rear- Infinity iL-10's ($237, MSRP $350), Sub- KLH KSW10 ($80, MSRP $120)
Display: Sony 36XBR800 ($325, MSRP $2300)

Ugh, I never like these itemizations

Main HT:

Samsung 7187 DLP -- paid 3k (unsure of retail price -- 5k?)
Mains: Onix Strata Mini's -- paid 1400 (retail 2300), Onix LS-6's on order
Center: Onix RSC200 -- paid 400 (retail 600)
Surrounds: Polk FXi5 dipoles -- paid 300 (retail 600)
Sub: SVS 16-46PC+ -- paid 900 (same retail)
Amp -- Sunfire Cinema Grand Series II architectural -- paid 950 (retail 3k or so?)
Onkyo 875 as pre-pro -- paid 1300 (retail 1700)
Series 3 Tivo -- paid 400 (retail 800)
Antec MX-1 ESATA enclosure w/ Hitachi Deskstar 1TB (add-on to series 3) -- paid 400 altogether (retail price? no idea)
Macmini HTPC w/ 2 GB RAM -- paid 900 (same retail)
about 3 TB of external HD's -- paid 600 total (retail about 1200)
2 Sony DVP-CX995V 400-DVD changers ) -- paid 600 (retail 800 or so)
360 w/ HDDVD add-on -- paid 600 (same retail)
ps3 -- paid 350 (retail was 500 at the time)
Panamax and APC UPS's -- can't remember how much I paid
All cables from Monoprice -- maybe 100 bucks TOTAL paid
Acoustic treatments from ATS, Auralex -- about 1200 paid total

So, a little over 13k total cost.

Home office:

Westinghouse 42-inch LCD -- paid 1300 (retail 2k)
Mains -- Onix X-MTM towers -- paid 200 (retail 530)
Center -- Onix X-CS -- paid 80 (retail 140)
surrounds -- former mains from 2 Onkyo HTiB systems -- package cost about 400 for whole HTIB system)
Onkyo HTR540 rcvr (from HTiB system) and HTiB sub <== NEXT UPGRADE OPPORTUNITY!!
Outlaw M-2200 monoblocks x 3 coming for Xmas (wife bought them for me yesterday, but forgot to print the receipt, and instead downloaded it to the desktop ). So, I now need a rcvr w/ pre-outs for the office (WOOT!)
Sony DVP CX-995V 400-DVD changer -- paid 300 (retail about 400?)
ps3 -- paid 400 (retail 500 when I got it)
G4 powerbook as HTPC -- don't remember what I paid
series 3 Tivo w/ 1TB Antec add-onn -- 1k paid total
slingbox pro -- paid 200
Panamax 4300 -- paid 100 (retail 250?)
Cables from monoprice -- 80 bucks?

Cost for office is hard to calculate -- 5k or so?

Secondary HT:

Toshiba 57H81 57-inch RPTV -- paid about 2k in 2001? (unknown retail)
Onix CS-1 center -- paid 80 (140 retail)
Polk Monitor 50 mains -- paid 200 (retail 400 or so?)
Onkyo HTiB rcvr, surrounds, and sub -- paid 300 or so (soon to be upgraded to separates as well)
Component Switch -- 80 bucks
Wii -- paid 250 (same retail)
series 2 Tivo -- paid 200 or so?
Motorola DCT-6200 HD tuner (included b/c I bought it) -- paid 150 (retail 600 or so?)
OTA HD tuner -- paid 100 (unknown retail)
Samsung 5-disc DVD player -- paid 50 (retail 100?)
Cables from Monopirce -- 50 bucks?

As you can see, this is quite a Frankenstein system. As other people likely do, I relegate old components to other rooms in hand-me-down fashion. Total price about 3.5k

Bedroom:

Toshiba 42-inch plasma -- paid about 2k (unknown retail)
Series 2 Tivo/ DVD player combo -- paid about 200 (unk retail)
Moto 6200 -- paid 150 (retail 600)
No spkrs as of yet (wife doesn't want spkrs in the bedroom )

2.3k total

Phew. That was painful. So, about 25k total.

And I didn't even include most of my computers and hard drives...

I need help
