M&K lcr 750's for the center and fronts. I paid $750 on ebay for them so I think i got a good deal on those. Velodyne 10" sub from circuit city. It was the floor model and I talked the salesman down to $250 for it. JBL 8" in walls for the side surrounds and back surrounds. Got those off etronics for $100 a pair I think. I plan on replacing those soon though. Last, but not least, a pair of 50 watt bass shakers from smart home.

Polk Monitor 40s
Polk Monitor 30s
Polk CS1
Dayton 10in Down firing sub

Pioneer VSX-515 Receiver

Techinically I paid $275 for the Polks plus a 10in Sub that I sold for $75.I think it was called the 104 package, or something similar. Really these speakers paid for themselves since I picked up 4 sets as soon as I learned they were clearanced at the crazy low price at my local Frys. After selling the 3 sets plus sub, I figure I was paid about $300-$400 to have these speakers.

First I want to thank you guys for putting up with all my warped questions during the process of putting together these systems.

I won't go into all the gory details as it's been a long and winding road of buying, selling, looking for sales and special offers, etc since January.

I first purchased an Onkyo HTIB then I found this forum, from there it's grown into two budget systems of seperate components, keeping only the Onkyo receiver for use on one of the systems.

Total cost thanks to you guys and this forum during this time period, after catching sales on speakers..mostly from frys, trying them and then selling them for a profit and also selling the htib speakers/sub for almost the same price I paid for the htib system is, $765, including shipping including speaker wire. I haven't received the H-100 yet but the price has been included in the total.

I also like the fact I did start out with an htib so I know the difference first hand. It's night and day, fire and ice, however you want to put it. I'm very satisified.

System 1:
Receiver from Onkyo HT-S580
Athena Point 5 Speaker System
Athena AS-P4000 Sub

System 2:
Pioneer VSX-516 Receiver
Athena Point 5 Speaker System
BIC Acoustech H-100 Sub

System 1
HK AVR-325 $300
Athena AS-F1 $100/pr
Athena AS-C1 $90
Athena AS-B1 $90/pr
Sony SAWM-40 modded with polyfil $150
Total $730

System 2
Onkyo TX-573 $200
Athena AS-B2 $110/pr
Athena AS-C1 $50
JBL 500 rears $20/pr
Dayton 10" $100
Total $480

All of the Athenas were purchased at Best Buy, either open box with 30% off or new in box at clearance pricing. Receivers were both purchased at Fry's during 1 day only sales. I'll eventually get some Athena rears for system 2 but I'm in no rush.

Deals can definitely be had if you're patient.

I assume you cycled through the Polks R series if you were shopping at Frys. I also assume that is what you sold at a profit. (I assume too much ) . Assuming I am correct, why did you move on to the Athenas and discard the Polks?

This has been covered in other threads, but here goes anyway.
2-channel system: Onkyo DX-C390 CD changer, Onkyo TX-8511 stereo receiver, Infinity Beta 20 speakers, Omnimount Cosmic 24 stands. $800 for the components. Another $200 for the stands, lead shot, wires, rugs tacked to the wall, and Wal-Mart component rack. Absolutely awesome sound quality.
HT system: Yamaha receiver (forget model), Sony DVD player, Def Tech BP10 fronts, Def Tech BP8 rears, Def Tech ProSub 80. $2500 not including TV, stand, and wires. Immersive 3-dimensional sound that makes it seem like a big theater instead of a small room.

You assume correctly, both the Polk R series JBL Northridge series and the Primus series. I didn't move on to the Point5s. I purchased 1 of the Point5s systems first and compaird these for my second system against the point5s. While their was certain aspects of R series I prefered one being looks. For my taste overall, nothing compaired to the sound of the Point5s so I wound up purchasing another Point5 system.

Onkyo 603x $289
Athena AS-B1 (Pair) $80
Athena AS-C1 $80
Dayton 10 $130

$579 total, but i still need to finish my rear sound stage.. will either just do another set of B1's bringing to total to about $660, or i might put some F1's up front and move my B1's to the back, which would bring me to about $750 total... Already sounds amazing with just my front sound stage.
