They look gorgeous, but too expensive for me.
Given the price of Electra 1028 is around $7k, I hoped No.2 would be priced closer to $10,11k.
...maybe 2nd hand in a year or two. ;-)

That's extremely disappointing. Why not just discontinue the electra series, raise the price or put out a new version.

Can't wait for Sopra No. 3. I currently have 1038 Be and it's perfect for my room. They are as gorgeous as they get. I heard they could be Magico S series killer and Focal is trying to set the price/performance ratio so high in Sopra to compete with the rest of the field. No. 2 is more clear sounding than Scala V2 as I was told and Utopia may get a refresh next year.
The way I see is Focal is setting up with Sopra for their new found technologies this year for the Utopia refresh next year and beyond.

Has anyone here heard first hand the differences between the Arias and the Electras?

I'm planning on getting th Electra center with Aria fronts and surrounds, with the possibility to upgrade to Electra fronts down the line. The Arias are so unbelievably musical and satisfying, I'm just wondering if anyone thinks the Electras lose that. I'm really wanting the center upgrade considering that it has the potential to make voices sound that much better every time I watch a movie....

My girlfriend and I went to compare them about 6 months ago. First the 928, then the 1028be, then the 948. Same day, same music, same associated gear.

She picked the 1028be because "it seems a lot more clear to me. I could hear voices in the background that I didn't hear on the others. That string pluck sounded like it was in the room with the second ones".

I agreed, and that's what we went with. We both liked the look of the Arias better, but appreciated the sound signature of the Electra's more. Berylium tweeters seemed to call to us, and we don't have a sub so we needed a tower that could dig deep. That's us, though.

In the end, you just have to trust what your ears are telling you.

Also, man does Sopra look like a beautiful speaker. As others have stated the price point is a bit of a bummer (for my wallet anyway) but they look very nice. Would have to go with the black myself even though the red looks incredible.

Hopefully Overture gets them in soon. I will definitely go in for a listen - without my credit card.

I own the Aria 948's, but for the last month or so I've had a demo pair of Electra 1038be's in their place. While I agree that the Aria's are a wonderful speaker, and definitely a bargain at $5k retail in the U.S., the Electra's do take it to another level in the voicing, especially in the mid-range and above with the be tweeters. While the 1038's have been in place, I've kept my Aria CC in for movies. I think the Aria center channel keeps up with the Electras pretty well, but given the better articulation in the Electras, I'm sure a be center would be an upgrade.

I guess what I'm saying is that mixing Aria and Electra in the short term should be fine, especially if your overall goal is to do all Electra across the front.

My Aria 948's are going up for sale soon, as I'm moving to Bryston Model T's across the front. But that's a discussion for another day. Focal makes wonderful speakers.

McIntosh MX121. McIntosh MC205. Focal Aria 948 Main Speakers, Aria CC900 Center. Focal Electra IC 1002 In-Ceiling Surrounds. Paradigm Studio Sub 15. Oppo BDP-105D. Roku XS. Roku 3. Apple TV(3). "Silenzio" EA-2 Media Server (pc-based). DirecTV. Panasonic TC-P65VT50. Samsung UN40FH6030F, URC MX-780.

Here's the issue... I like the idea of the Electra's for movies -- which is what I primarily will be using them for at home -- the Arias have some of the best musicality I have heard from any speaker in their price range. I'm worried that the Electras might lose that musicality. What would you say? The Arias are pretty captivating musically -- much more so than the Revel 208's etc in their price range. Do you find yourself seduced by the music as much with the electras, or do you find yourself listening and paying more attention to the technical aspects/impressiveness of the speaker?

I believe the Electras are better speakers in every aspect, whether the "measurement" is musicality or technical representation. I get just as caught up in the music when listening to the Electras, probably more so. Their accurateness adds to the experience. It will be interesting to hear my Aria's again after a month out of the system. And then when I put the Brystons in, yet another change. One of the biggest upgrades going to Bryston is their center channel, which is a true full-range center with 8" woofers. To your earlier point, this will truly make movie watching incredible, as my system is a 5.1 and 2.0 dual-duty system.
