Both are great speakers, but I think the Sopras have more magic and musicality.

I'm not a KEF fan but I did like the Ref 3 and the bigger ones. I respect them, but I'd absolutely go with the Sopras. They are also infinitely nicer looking if you ask me.

I listened to the Sopras and man are you right, they do sound magical. The highs and mids are incredible and the soundstage is on another level. End game speakers for sure. Thank you for sharing

Got the Sopra 3s. Replaced the Focal 1038be. Nice upgrade in all areas. The 1038s sounded amazing with my PrimaLuna amp but the Sopras not so much. Im using a Mark Levinson amp with them and the sound is perfect for me

Its in a basement with thick carpet, padding and water channels underneath in case of flooding. Doesnt work well with spikes. Plus i have carpet sliders under the platters so its easy to get them positioned and adjust toe in.

Hey folks,

Who knew my first Focal would be a pair of headphones

I really have enjoyed Focal auditions in the past and although I didn't go in that direction for my home speakers I am trying out their Elear Cans. I am into a few days and I am really loving these headphones thus far. I have not owned many headphones over the years. In my living room I own Sennheiser HD 700 cans and Sennheiser HDVA 600 amp. I have gotten more use out of it then I thought I would especially late night on a Saturday with a drink and don't want to wake the house with my speakers.

I wanted to upgrade from my AKG K550 in the bedroom. Right now I do not have a dedicated headphone amp in the bedroom and I am trying the Focals running thru my bedroom AVR a Yamaha Aventage 2060. The phones in the bedroom are more multi-purpose from CD to streaming to Youtube to a movie.

The Focal Elear are proving very easy to drive and I am having no issues using the Yamaha. They also sound great in the living room via the headphone amp and I think the bass might be in better control.

Was really surprised to come across these although released last year. I don't do a lot of headphone shopping but I wanted something completely different from my Sennheiser 700s. I wanted an easier to drive and perhaps a bit more punchy or dynamic sound. I do not think they are as neutral as my Senns but I am okay with that. Why have two sets of phones that sound almost the same? The upper mids sound a bit relaxed but I think Focal did an outstanding job here. Like speakers every headphone is not for all but if your looking for a set of cans these might be the ticket. Outstanding job Focal. Umm they also introduced those $4k Utopia headphones at the same time so I guess if you are wanting more? Dang phones are pushing the $$$$ envelope.

Anyway, I know this is not the headphone sub-forum but wanted to state how much I am enjoying Focal's latest dive into the headphone arena. These are one great looking (a bit heavy) and sounding can. I think they did a heck of a job with the Elear and we will see what comes with some more break-in.

Just passing thru the Focal thread

Rick

Anyone compare the 1028's to the 1038's? I have the 1028's and I'm looking to upgrade.

The primaluna amp sounded amazing with the 1038 but on the sopra the bass wasn't nearly as good as the Levinson.
The sopra impedance goes pretty low and the primaluna amps have a high output impedance. It has no problem driving the sopra but did not sound as good as the big solid state

Just upgrade from 1028be's too 1038be's

I just upgraded from my 1028be's, which I love, to 1038be's which I love even more. I took my 2x40 mono block DecWare ZMA tube amp the dealer to test drive the 1038's. My amp had no problem driving the 1038's, which is not surprising since the 1038's are more efficient than the 1028's (93 vs. 91). The sound of the 1038's was significantly more open and the sound stage was even more awesome than the 1028's. I cannot say with certainty that volume sas not a factor, but I did try to maintain similar sound levels. The dealer made me an offer I could not refuse with same day free delivery (I am two hours from them). I got the black finish which matches my other speakers. The sound is incredible and my wife noticed it immediately. My listening volumes are lower than before with excellent definition and clarity. Diana Krall is amazing on these speakers as is Oscar Peterson and many others. I wanted to stay with the Electra series as I already had the center channel and I will use my 1028's as surrounds

Are the 1038's being discontinued or are the Sopra's getting more attention these days?

good ?

my dealer pushes sopras and aria's

dont know why, might try to ask next time I am there.

aria 948's do alot well for under 5k, my dealer doesnt show them off any more due to stealing/earning sales.

its a great value but I like the sopra more, just not at the $$$

well when the new lines showed up, and I bought my speakers I felt like the dealer pushed that line with alot of praise, check these out. when I went in a couple years later, it was a different brand being shown off. and some speakers had been switched around in listening rooms. obviously some strategy/marketing was used.

[QUOTE=norm.dallura;51992489]I just upgraded from my 1028be's, which I love, to 1038be's which I love even more.

I listened to the 1028s before i bought the 1038s. Same thing I listened to the Sopra 2s before I bought the Sopra3. I dont how the 1038 and sopra 3 sound so much better then the smaller speakers in the same line being the same midrange driver and tweeter but both times the bigger speaker definitely sounds better.

I love the sound of the Sopras but man the finish of the Electras is better IMO. I was going to go from 1028 to 1038 but added two Sub6 instead. I also think Electra will be discontinued, the have stopped releasing all premium finishes. I want the Sopra sound but not the look...I was thinking about a cheeky mod to chase the dream haha.

Not sure about them being discontinued, but I do agree that the look of the Electras is something very special. Especially in the now discontinued dark walnut.

I hope they make an Electra V3 and put some kind of ring around the exposed screws around the drivers with magnetic grills, maybe a permanent tweeter cover like sopras but less flashy, and obviously some sound improvements. It's such a winning design as is, I think they'd be crazy to discontinue them.

Quick Question

I'm trying to decide if there is a real difference between the Chorus CC800V and Chorus CC700V besides the weight. If I remember correctly that was the only real difference. I've owned the Chorus CC800V for several years so they are broken in nicely. I've only recently purchased the CC700V and while I can tell the difference, I wonder if it's because the CC700V just needs to be broken in some more. Any opinions?
